even though it is too soon to get another dog right after having to put our little yorkie down last month. we are thinking maybe by the summer. we do miss Max terribly and we will never forget him. but we do miss the companionship.
so my question is since i never really had a dog before except for Max, does anybody have any suggestions? since we still live in an apartment, i would like a small dog. i was thinking of a maltese or another yorkie. but DH wants a Jack Russell. i did some research & heard they are very hyper
not too sure if thats too smart, since we live in an apartment
any suggestions??

We have a Boston Terrier... great with kids, easy to train, not much grooming involved, affectionate and playful.
Here's a link to the Dogs 101 website (it's a show on Animal Planet) that might help you figure out a good dog for you and your needs or just to get some quick info on a breed your interested in. Dogs 101
Ditto. All he wants is to be around us - he doesnt care about anything else. He is EXCELLENT with children and when we leave him home alone he just sleeps LOL

Yorkies have major health issues and seem to be getting worse over time....I wouldn't touch them with a ten-foot pole! Umm, the other doggies mentioned have good reps too! Good luck with your choice!
What are you talking about the OP had a yorkie that lived til 16
Maybe it lived to 16, but did it have problems? There isn't ONE person I know with a Yorkie who hasn't had multiple problems. When I was deciding on a breed and wanted a Yorkie for like two seconds, I did research and was turned off by the potential problems of Yorkies, particularly 'Teacup' which don't even exist.

Everyones dogs are so cute!!
But I must say, a Scottish Terrier is the way to go! Perfect temperament, friendly, loving--great for apartment living as they only get to be about 20lbs. And the thing I love most is that they're not all that common. They're a diamond in the rough!
Here's our little Scottie, Franklin....

I had a jack russell mutt that went cujo on me, he was only a pup and he viciously attacked me. I have a little yorkie and he is amazing, healthy as a horse. He just had overcrowing teeth removed because his baby teeth never came out but other than that he is amazing!
I have a friend who had the same thing happen with her JR doggie....it mauled her! Bastardo!

Yeah, I don't like jack russells b/c of how hyper they are. We recently got a beagle, so far he hasn't really been too loud. You can also try maybe a pug? a schnouzer (SP?), scottish terrier's are cute too! Me and DH were both thinking about getting one until we saw our little Artie in the window :)
my sister has a beagle. they are great !! only thing is they take off. once my nephew dropped his dog leash & he took off running boy did he fly!!
right now my options are open. i am bookmarking this post for future reference !
I have a beagle nd he needs to be on his leash at all times! he has taken off twice!

Such cute dogs on this thread!!
We have a pug! They do shed which is something to think about, but we took one look at her face and fell in love! I wish I could have another for her to play with! (We also had a cocker spaniel growing up.)

Wow, really? I would never have known that the dog I have, that you conviniently posted a link for, would have health issues....just like a person...I'm shocked that any one of us can get anything out there....
My post was to inform the OP about dog breeds I'm familiar with....you really didn't have to show me what I know about the breed I have...I researched and know about the breed of my dog. I'm telling her about what I know from friend's experiences wtih Yorkies and Jack Russells. I wanted people to tell me true facts when I was looking, which they did, which was what led me to the dog I bought.
