FOR THOSE LADIES WHOSE HUBBIES, FI, SO TRAVEL
How often do they go away and how long are they away for??? How do you cope??Hubby just called to tell me he is off to Belgium in late August
he seem to be travelling now more than ever before, its as if no one else at his company can fly or go wherever he has to go. I do not like all this travelling at all
I know I can go, but I would be using my vacation time to go and I would be bored all day while he is in confrences etc. What must a gal do

Re: FOR THOSE LADIES WHOSE HUBBY'S TRAVEL
I travel a lot on business and it is definitely hard. I am usually gone for a week at a time. Sometimes I travel alone and that is even worse. When I go to a national meeting or something like that it is much easier. It gets lonely out there but they always say it is worse for the person left behind. I can imagine it must be. DH comes with me if I go somewhere good but that doesn't happen often and he doesn't get unlimited vacation time
I really don't have any advice for you - Sorry!

Re: FOR THOSE LADIES WHOSE HUBBY'S TRAVEL
Shamma, I am sorry you are sad!!!My FH is looking to do a career change and get into sports marketing. This would involve a good degree of travel if he chooses. I told him that I will support his dreams and decisions, but I will NOT be happy with a husband that will always be away, especially when kids come into the picture.
I think you should talk to Roger and ask if is traveling can be modified in any way. I know you two are TTC. Can he ask his boss if some of the traveling assignments be delegated to other people in the office so he is not gone so often?
I think you should really tell him how much this is bothering you, maybe he does not know to what extent this is having an affect on you.

Re: FOR THOSE LADIES WHOSE HUBBY'S TRAVEL
My DH travels frequently, he was just in panama for two weeks end of May/beg. of June and he'll be in seattle for a week end of July.I really don't mind it much, I like having alone time and it lets us miss each other, it's so easy to take someone for granted if they're always around.
And it's so exciting to see him after he's been away for awhile, so just try to look forward to your happy reunion!

Re: FOR THOSE LADIES WHOSE HUBBY'S TRAVEL
Luke travels all the time. The worst part is when he has to go suddenly. Sometimes we are in the middle of dinner out and his pager goes off and he must be off. The worst part is that sort of 'on edge' feeling.
It ****s but he loves his job so I try to be supportive.

I do not mind him travelling, it just seem as if they are becoming more frequent. I love having him away, just not as often as it has gotten

Re: FOR THOSE LADIES WHOSE HUBBY'S TRAVEL
He gives advance notice, but I still don't want my hubby on all these darn planes all over, he has a staff, I am wondering if no one else can go, he loves the travelling and he loves his job, so I try to be supportive but I still miss him. When I go home this evening I will have to talk to him, I know he is going to say, honey you know you can come

Re: FOR THOSE LADIES WHOSE HUBBIES TRAVEL
I do not think Shamma wants to tag along- Am I correct Shamma? If I am reading you correctly you want more stability. You want your husband home on a somewhat regular basis. You want to be able to make plans with your husband without always having to check your calendars.
Shamma please talk to him, there has to be some middle ground here.

Re: FOR THOSE LADIES WHOSE HUBBIES TRAVEL
My DH has been on a rotation at work that has him traveling 75% of the time. He was just assigned a trip to East Africa too! The good news is that this rotation is over at the end of this month!I don't have any of my family here, nor do I have many friends that are available to hang out, so I get pretty lonely. I try to keep busy while he's away. I start a lot of projects in our house when he leaves so that I have something going on. I also shop a lot!
What ends up happening though......Dh is only home basically on the weekends. Obviously I want us to hang out and do things, but the weekend is all the time he has to do anything for fun. And some of the stuff would be with his friends (i.e. golf, fishing). We struggle a little with that.
I'm happy for him that he gets to see so many new places, and he really enjoys the traveling. I basically try to grin and bare it for now. I don't think there is anything else I can do. Sorry I don't have any real advise. But you are not alone.
to those left at home!

Re: FOR THOSE LADIES WHOSE HUBBY'S TRAVEL
Tagging along no, I do not want to do, I lose my vacation time and when its time to go on a real vacation where will I get the time to do our vacation.I might be exaggerating, he is not gone every month, he is gone say every 3 mos. I am a newlywed, maybe later in our marriage I might be looking fwd to these trips.

Re: FOR THOSE LADIES WHOSE HUBBY'S TRAVEL
(Hope you guys don't mind me posting since I'm not married yet...)My FH used to travel 2 weeks out of every month to Asia and the weeks he was home, he spent 2 nights domestic. Fortunately it's only been domestic lately, but come October...he's back to Asia.
Call me crazy...although I do miss him when he's gone, I do sometimes like it when he travels. I don't have to prepare a meal and I can get some cleaning done at night (which is when I prefer to clean....that's my primetime.)
When he's gone, I sleep with a kitchen & bathroom light on and I keep the car keys, flashlight and my cell phone on the nightstand. We usually take the dogs collars off at night, but when he's gone...they stay on! I want to be able to hear where they are. If I call them and I don't hear jingling...then I'm dialing 911 on my cell!
(I even go as far as to turn the tones off on my cell and house phone...just in case someone should be in my home, they won't hear me dialing.)

Re: FOR THOSE LADIES WHOSE HUBBY'S TRAVEL
Jenny, I think i should have said FI/HUbby etc, I want to know everyone's experience, yes it is lonely and scarey at times when they are gone, to be in the house all by your lonesome. I told him I am going to stay with my mom when he is gone.

Re: FOR THOSE LADIES WHOSE HUBBIES TRAVEL
DH travels often and usually for weeks at a time. I usually stay with my mom while he's away. I just don't like being in the house at night alone. It was so much harder when we first got married, it hasn't gotten that much easier but I try to make the best of the time he's away.

Re: FOR THOSE LADIES WHOSE HUBBIES, FI, SO TRAVEL
Brian doesnt travel for his job. I dont know what I would do if he did. Probably not sleep. I cant sleep when he isnt in the bed.I used to work with a woman whose husband did a lot of traveling for his job. He would travel at least 3 times a month. I used to ask her but what do you do. She said she keeps busy by going to the gym, gardening, walking, catching up with old friends, going out with her mom or having friends sleep over. She said it helped pass the time he was gone but it was still hard because she was a newlywed.
