I worked in the magazine industry selling ad space and was the 2nd to last hired. They laid off the girl who was hired after me in october and then I received the bad news on Monday.
I know this has happened to quite a few girls on the 08 board, any advice in this economy?
I can't decide whether to go to grad school for teaching or try something completely different. A few of my teacher friends say it's just as difficult to get a job there. I'm fed up with the Devil Wears Prada BS that goes on in my industry and the entire industry seems to be going down the tubes ( with mags folding every month).
It s*cks being laid off a month and a half after my wedding! But I guess it couldve been worse, it could've happened before!
And being at home all day is BORING.

So sorry to hear you were laid off. If you can afford to not work or work parttime and rely solely on your DH's salary then go to school full time. You should look at some of the city schools like Queens or Hunter for teaching because the tuition is very affordable. If you are looking to teach in LI, then yes, it is very difficult to get a job, but when you know someone it helps immensly! Teaching in Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn, etc is a lot easier to find a job. What is your passion? Do you really want to teach?

I work in interactive advertsing and I know we are looking for a couple of people for our account teams. If you want to forward me your resume I can submit it to HR. We are currently located in union square but are moving more mid-town.

so so sorry! I have 4 friends that got laid off this week so far. Its really getting bad. I hope you can find something! For now just make sure to get your unemployment going!
