Its is said that within teh first year of marriage the average woman gains 21 lbs.
So ladies what do u think? Do you see yourself as one that will never allow that or can you see yourself slipping & gaining weight??
For me my health & working out is a priority. Its a lifestyle for me & not something i have to do. I enjoy working out & running & could never give it up. I eat right all week & allow myself to indulge a bit on weekends. But for me NO WAY! We shall see when little ones are in the mix. Thank goodness for the babysitting at the gym. lol

I think its is very skewed way of looking at it. Think about it.....most brides will diet like crazy so they are at their thinnest for the weddings. So is the 21 lbs from the wedding day weight or your normal everyday weight.
Most times when you lose weight for an event the weight will come back right after and I think this is what happens to most brides so the 21lbs they gain is in reality probably bring them back to their 'normal' weight or close to it.
I just hit my 1 year and I am the same as I was on my wedding day and the same I have been for the past 2 years....I lost my weight to change my life and never look at it for any one day.
I totally thought the same thing. Probably from the wedding day weight (which u know so many people drop alot of weight for). I didnt drop either. I was excatly the same as always.

That is crazy...but i do agree with you ladies who said that is probably not the bride's normal weight. I dropped weight for our wedding and I have managed to keep it off until I started building muscle with my nutritionist/trainer. I am up ony a few pounds but see a difference in the way my clothes fit. I can't wait to lean out again! Like VIcki and Alli said, this is a lifestyle for me. I was overweight years ago and made a committment to living a healthy, fit lifestyle...that's something that will NEVER change...even when I have kids!

Yup. I had a trainer three days a week and went to the gym five or six days a week for months before the wedding. I have gained weight since the wedding but I'm more at my 'normal' weight now than I was for the wedding.

Re: HOLY - What do u think
Between what I lost for the wedding, and what I gained back, I gained 20 lbs the year after my wedding. I don't believe it's completely normal though...I did have possibly THE most stressful year of my life. 10 days after getting back from the honeymoon, DH lost his job. Then I started working soooo many hours to make up for it. Then my grandma started going downhill. I had to take a leave from work to help my family. I was out of work unpaid for like 13 weeks while I helped with my Nani til she passed. Then went back to work like a maniac. After the wedding I stopped exercising, stopped watching what I ate, and was really really depressed. I ended up so unhealthy and overweight and out of shape, I was miserable... My clothes didn't fit...When I really hit rock bottom and realized how bad I was, I turned myself around and starting working hard at getting back in shape. Since starting my diet and exercise routine I've lost 7 lbs and feel SO much better. My body looks like me again :) So I guess I fit right in to the average woman, but I don't think I would have gained that amount of weight in a 'normal' year without all that stress.

I have gained about 10-15lbs since the wedding, but its not newlywed bliss that did it to me, it was a whole lotta personal cra p that DH and I went through and unfortunately I used food for comfort.
Well things are ok now and ive gotten back into trying to lose weight and so far im down 4lbs.

that sounds like a lot of weight for me. I think I gained back some of the 10 lbs I had lost before the wedding but that's pretty much it. I've also had a very rough few months (2 miscarriages ) so I blame that for the weight gain

I totally understand. After having a MC as well it was hard to want to do anything. For me the working out was a release but for others it may not be. I hope you are doing much better now.

I have gained about 20 lbs over the past year but I have also had a pretty stressful year..My stepfather died a few months before my wedding and at that point I stopped caring about losing weight for the wedding and it all went downhill from there. I am hoping I can get myself motivated to lose the weight one of these days but I have been telling myself that for the past 6 months!

Stay strong Nikki...I know that this year was just the worst for so many ladies on here...I'm right with you on the 20 lbs. The motivation will come, and you'll start to get back to your comfortable weight. FM me if you want to talk about anything at all.

Re: HOLY - What do u think
I just wanted to add a couple of things. When I posted my original response I think i said something about that being crazy. For me, it would be crazy because I am a midget basically. BUT that doesnt mean that its not possible. Actually, I was about 30 pounds heavier than I am now at one point. I had a rough patch and food became my answer. Every woman is different. We all deal with different things in our day to day lives. Some of us have had VERY stressful years and I am sure that this contributes to weight gain/ loss. I was thikning about some of our reactions and I realized that who the heck cares how much weight we gain or lost?! We are strong, beautiful wonderful women with husbands who loves us very much REGARDLESS of our weight. For me, I have always struggled with my weight and body image and it will always be a huge part of my life. BUT I don't think that if you gain weight you don't care about what you look like or your health. I think sometimes these thigns have to get placed on the back burner because we are dealing with more difficult issues. Does that make sense?
I don't know just felt like adding.

Just for the record. This post (thread) was never an intention to make anyone feel bad about themselves wether being body image or any other issue. As we all know NONE of us are perfect in anyway. This post was to see if most women agree with this study & how a healthy lifestyle may fit into their newly married lives. I certainly hope no-one was made to feel insecure or unhappy. I think i have stressed to mostly everyone on this board that no-matter what, we are all beautiful & that we should be most thankful to have mobile & healthy bodies. I think overall im an advocate for health not vanity.
XOXOXO To all my LIW ladies. - Just sayin.

Thanks Allegra! You are too sweet! You can always talk to me too if you ever want to!
Right now I really need someone to come over here and force me off the couch and on to a treadmill...

Re: HOLY - What do u think
I gained weight on my honeymoon 1. b/c I ate like a slob in Malta and 2. I don't work during the summers AND my foot was fractured so I wasn't as active as I usually am.
So once we settled into our new place and town and I started work again I'm right back to my usual self.
