How did you freeze the cake?
So my Mom was nice enough to take a large section if the cake and freeze it for us while we were on our HM. I took it home today and noticed that it is in a flimsy plastic container. Is that good enough to keep it in or should I switch it into something else?TIA.

Re: How did you freeze the cake?
Mine was in a box from the bakery wrapped in saran wrap and it actually tasted ok when we took a bite a year later. I think as long as it is tightly sealed it should be ok.

Re: How did you freeze the cake?
We decided not to save the wedding cake, as it was cheesecake and we didn't think it would freeze well. But nearly the entire groom's cake was left (which actually annoyed me, they didn't hand it out to guests who wanted chocolate cake, but whatever.) My sister took it home and put it in her freezer, giving it to us after the honeymoon. It was also in the bakery box, wrapped in Saran Wrap and tape. Tasted fine. We took a large section of it and decided to save that for our 1-year anniversary. I put it inside one of those disposable Tupperware-style containers so it wouldn't get squished, taped it shut with strapping tape, and then put that inside a freezer bag. We'll see what happens! But I think it depends on the style of cake, also.

Re: How did you freeze the cake?
We had the cake wrapped in saran wrap then in the bakery box....but for our Shower we got the food storage machine. SO we unwrapped the frozen cake and place it the food storage bag and s u c k ed all the air out....So We are hoping that the cake will be good.

Re: How did you freeze the cake?
Ours is in our freezer with a few layers of saran wrap and then a few layers of reynolds wrap. I didnt go nuts preserving it like I should have. I will make sure we have a fresh cake that day as well on our one year anniversary, as I couldnt imagine it to taste good at all after one year.

Re: How did you freeze the cake?
We had ours in Tupperware. Then I wrapped it in a layer of plastic wrap and a layer of aluminum foil. Then I put it in a plastic bag and tied it.I wanted to make sure that thing was air-tight!!
And it was still really good when we opened it and ate it!!

Re: How did you freeze the cake?
As long as you have a multi-seal approach, the cake should be fine. Plastic, like Saran Wrap and tupperware, keeps out odors but it doesn't protect against freezer burn and ice crystals. I used wax paper followed by aluminum foil--heavy duty Reynolds is best, but a couple of layers of the regular sheets will do.(Sorry, I went to culinary school and they make you learn this stuff.)

Re: How did you freeze the cake?
We just kept it in the box it came in and put it in the fridge (unintentionally) for a week and then transferred it into the freezer. We'll eat it the week before our anniversary since we will be away on our anniversary.

No, It did not squish the cake because it was already Frozen before we did it.
