If you don't mind saying, how much do you pay for your gas bill? What company do you use?
We pay our electric to ConEd and our gas to Keyspan. All my friends told me that the gas bill should be no more than $15 a month - since it's just for gas (i.e. stove).
But our bill is like $40 a month. Does this seem right? I cook about as often as my friends & family cook if not less.

$14 bucks!
DH was pissed at me. Ou issue is that sometimes sooo cold in the apt we turn it on for heat-ghetto i know. usually we're abotu 10 or eleven bucks Yesi.

That sounds high just for gas. I'd give Keyspan a call and have them check it out. DH pays our bill, so I don't know off the top of my head, but I'll look tonight and let you know. Cooking gas can't be that expensive in Queens.
just a thought - do you pay for your heat, could it be gas ?

Hah, I've done the same because our landlord does some weird stuff with the boiler. I know about thermostats and timers, so I KNOW that he is messing around with the settings. Private house so ther's not much I can do, except bake a lot of cakes and run the hot water.

Yeah, I agree that it's too high. I live in an apartment building - it's a coop building but we rent from the building owners. We were told we just pay for gas - we can't control the heat - we have it when it's on in the building and don't have it when it's off, you know?
I'm DEFINITELY calling or having DH call Keyspan cuz I think that's way too high for just cooking! I mean, I don't cook THAT much. I even try to cook once for two days worth of meals to save myself time.

when we were living in our old apt. we used to pay $30 for two months. i thought keyspan sends bills only once every two months? if not, then that is def. too much if ur not cooking like 17 hrs./day

Looked at the bill. We pay to ConEd for both electricity and gas. The gas part was $18.16 for 2 therms of gas, from the period Feb01 to March 04.
For Jan 02 to Feb01, I used 3 therms of gas and the charge was $18.35.
I cook just about every night, use the stove to boil water for my coffee every morning, and on Sundays usually have something roasting in the oven.

OMG, I didn't think anybody had KeySpan bills that low!! We pay $150 a month. But that's for heating the house and hot water.
I'd KILL for a $40 KeySpan bill!!!

Thanks everyone! Remember, we don't pay for heat in our apartment so for those of you in homes, it makes sense you're paying $300-400 a month since you're heating your entire home and also for cooking gas.
Whoever mentioned the Keyspan bill is for two months - I will definitely look into that. If it's $40 for two months, then that's fine, but not $40 per month when everyone else I know pays $11-15 a month.

only other thing I can think of is sometimes hot water heaters run on gas - but prob not in an apt building.
You should call, you could have a leak or something and you would want to get that checked out right away!
