Here's the worst! A friend from my job came, said he left his gift in the car...and over one month later has still given us ZIP and claims now and then: Man! I keep forgetting your gift! Yes, he has one year...but trust me....he does not know this rule. Do I send he and his girlfriend a thank-you???

LOL we just got a gift from one couple, nearly 6 mos. after the wedding (a skillet). I had sent them a thank you already, just saying thanks for sharing our day with us. I never thought we would get anything from them!

I friend of my mother's who didn't attend the wedding gave us a very nice (and expensive) wine bottle opener...the one in William Sonoma...Is it possible it is a better gift then you thought?

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?
My cousin & her husband begged to have his 10 year old son come too. I said OK and paid for his plate. The husband handed me my aunts envelope so I thought they gave me a gift. When I questioned it the husband said *I* must have lost it. My cousin told my mom she was sending a check while I was on my honeymoon along with my shower gift ... that was January ...
They are notorious for doing this though to the entire family all the time and I really wanted to call them out on it.
At Easter I asked my aunt (her mother) if it's weird that I lost the envelope on my wedding day and the postman lost it in the mail? I don't even care because I knew I wasn't going to get a gift from them but still stop acting like you do the right thing and then lie about it.
It's actually the family joke.

I will do the same...send a card to thank him for coming, but our photographer got a great shot of the 2 of them and I want to put in his thank you but part of me is like....NO! You don't get the nice picture now! LOL

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?
we got a very bad cookware set. i didnt know where and who it came from. It was a tools of the trade cook set. after some googling, i found it was sold at macy's. while figureing out what i should do with it, i was looking at pictures from the wedding and discovered who brought it in. (good thing for cameras)now, i bring it back to macy's (which this thing is not on my registry at macy's) it was 30 dollors gift coving 4 people.. ewwwwwww
im glad that they showed up though cause they came from FL...

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?
DH kept telling me that although New Yorkers give money as wedding gifts, southerners ALWAYS give registry gifts as wedding gifts. Well, not in his family's case! Some of them stuck to the registry; others just bought whatever the heck they felt like buying. The worst gift was from his cousin - she got us a pewter elephant spoon rest and elephant salad tongs
There was a reason behind it though - in Alabama, those people live and breathe college football. Their team's mascot is an elephant, and there's some guy who designs all this elephant-themed housewares stuff and all of DH's family LOVES it. Unfortunately I don't have the love for safari animals like DH's family does (or college football for that matter) so that gift is stashed somewhere in the pantry where it will probably stay for all of eternity

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?
I have a few... I have this cousin, whose wife has voiced on numerous occasions her obvious concern with my lack of interest in my religion (Jewish). She's also totally taken aback that DH does most of the cooking in our household, and disapproves of my pursuit of a career (attorney). She's also well aware that we are vegetarians. So, for our wedding, she gave us a JEWISH COOKBOOK, with most recipes for meat. I wrote her a thank you and said, considering I don't cook, DH will hopefully make some yummy meals for me from the recipes!
My brothers also gave bad gifts. My one brother bought us a birdfeeder (????), and the other gave us such a guilt trip about hiring a DJ (he's a musician) that at the last minute, we switched to a band. He promised to give us as our gift $1k to help pay for the band. No mula. Then he said our gift would be flying lessons. Nope, never received that either...

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?
The night we came back from our honeymoon, we went to my MIL's house for dinner. She had one of her friends over. This women is a REAL wench. She whipped out pictures of another wedding that she went to the weekend after ours and went on and on about how 'THAT WEDDING' was the best wedding she had ever gone to. But, followed up by saying, 'but, your wedding was nice, too.'
Then, she gave us this box. It was a discontinued Mikasa bowl that she bought at the outlet for approximately $10.
Now, I REALLY thought she had given us a cash gift at the wedding. So, I said, 'oh, is this a shower gift?'
She said, 'NO, I couldn't go to your shower. The other shower was the same day and I HAD to go to THAT bride's shower. This is your wedding gift.'

It is a nice one. I registered for it. But it still was only $60 from a person who makes over $150,000! And she brought a guest!

My aunt gave us a very ugly vase. I will have to post a pic of it later. It's horrible. I keep placing it on table edges hoping someone will accidentally bump it off and break it.

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?
Our very strange friend and his girlfriend gave us a nintendo controller belt buckle (for brad) and a pac man cigarrette holder (for me - I don't smoke). Brad loves nintendo, and i love pacman, but geez! He works and makes decent money. Meanwhile, just for the heck of it, he bought brad a game cube game for chanukah this past year, which costs at least $50..he's so weird! We had another friend get us two serving spoons. I didn't mind though - he really has no money right now at all and is paying to put himself through school.

The next time you move, do what I do....get rid of it and say it got lost or broken in the move.
We got this fugly wedding picture frame from someone who couldn't make the wedding. It is not my taste, and it is the thought that counts, but what made me laugh was that the person made such a big deal before sending it about how it was fragile and she was shipping it and where should she send it so it would be safe, yadda, yadda. So when I got it, it wasn't even packed well in the box- it was sliding all around. When I opened it, I laughed because it was like a $10 card store frame. All that hoopla for that!

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?
DH's cousin (who was not able to come to our wedding) sent a mystery gift. After a fair amount of staring, we concluded that it was a very tall (~ 2 feet) single wooden candlestick holder painted silver. Extremely random. If you held it the right way, it could do a fair imitation of the Olympic torch.
