Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?

my first wedding...(i was young and got married for ALL the wrong reasons, long story)...anyway, someone put a 5 dollar bill in a card and signed it:

From ?

I thought that was pretty horrible to do. I mean, it wasn't the money issue. I would've rather the card be empty, but filled out from the person with some nice well wishes for us. That would've sufficed.

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?

A book on manners. No Joke. Actually, if you read the table of contents - it's how to get along with your spouse, your kids, your in-laws, your own family, which is nice advice. Except for the chapter on wedding etiquette - then, I thought, are they saying I was rude? Worst of all, my mom dropped the card in the box with the rest of the envelopes, so I have no idea who it is from!! (Which means, I have to be rude and ignore the gift in the thank-you, oh well.)

We had a number of non-gifters, including one of my BMs, DH's aunt and 2 cousins, and one of my 'good' friends from college.

But, as far as gifts we actually received, the worst by far was also a menorah. DH is Jewish, I am not. The menorah is white ceramic with big pink flowers, butterflies and birds like pasted on it. It is THE WORST thing I have ever seen. You know, I really have to take a picture of it.

We also got a gift that we had to actually look up online to find out what the hell it was from one of DH's friends, who I do not like anyway. Turns out it's apparently a pitcher from Crate and Barrel... for $24.95. This girl has been working from college just like the rest of us had. And I registered at Crate and Barrel - if you're going to go through the trouble of going there to get us a gift (albeit a $25 gift), at least make it something you know we want.

I secretly want to write 'Thank you for the vase' in her TY card since that's what we thought it might be when we opened it up.

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?

I hate admitting that the gift was bad, because it was done with so much love, but my godfather (who is 88 years old) sent two framed pictures of me with him and my godmother and me with my grandmother and godmother on my christening day.

The frames were painted gold.

Now I feel bad because I know he thought he was being nice remembering how special that day was. But this is a man who is very wealthy (has a construction company that builds gas stations for Exxon Mobil in Massachusetts). In the past he always been generous and given me really nice gifts and gave my brother money for his wedding in 2002.

Everyone who saw these pictures was surprised and his grown son (my mom's cousin) even rolled his eyes.

I feel so horrible saying it was a bad gift, I guess it was just not what I expected from my wealthy godfather who is still very smart and sharp and has always been generous.

I'm a bad godchild

I am cracking up because I think that is a pitcher I did register for and love! Different strokes, I guess

ok here goes
my godmother bought me a pewter salad bowl with tongs - her mom bought the matching pitcher - but they know i am totally allergic to pewter so i cant even take this out of the plastic bag it came in - we unpacked it the day after before we left and i had blisters on my arm for 3 days.
what do people do leave their brains at home when they get this stuff?

GET OUT!
My godmother bought us a pewter pitcher for an engagement gift, a pewter candleabra (sp?) for my shower and 2 pewter plates for our wedding. Is it a godmother thing? Thankfully I'm not allergic but pewter??

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?

I received an advertisement (looked like it was torn out of a magazine) for a gambling cruise in Florida. The couple who gave it to me said..'Can you believe it's free!' I said....'That's great! Now I'll just have to find a way to pay for a flight and hotel and come up with some money to gamble away!' (I HATE gambling)!
