Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?

One of my mom's cousins gave us a framed photo, which dosn't sound so bad, but let me explain. He took a photo on a trip to China and made a black and whit copy of it on regular printer paper. It was framed in cardboard matting. DH and I had to go out and buy a real frame for it.

We got a rock. Technically, it's called an Amethyst Church but it's just not our style.

Besides the cheapos & stiffers, my father's half brother in England sent us a plastic tablecover (ya know like the ones you stick over a picnic table).

I feel terrible, because I know my friend thought this was a great gift. We like to say it was the 'funniest' wedding gift we received. It made us laugh throughout our entire Honeymoon.

My aunt gave us a very ugly vase. I will have to post a pic of it later. It's horrible. I keep placing it on table edges hoping someone will accidentally bump it off and break it.

BEYOTCH!!!

Great idea though!

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?

I top you all.

From one of my grandma's sisters - but she's not that old. Young enough to know better. She brought EIGHT people to the wedding. EIGHT!

She gave us 4 canisters of differing sizes, 2 large ceramic spoons and one fork to place on the wall, and a BREAD BOX, all in this style:

My Grandma and I crack up about it - what the hell are we supposed to do with them? I told Grandma she has to keep them, it's her sister. My aunt finally took them. I have no idea what she's doing with them.

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?

ok here goes
my godmother bought me a pewter salad bowl with tongs - her mom bought the matching pitcher - but they know i am totally allergic to pewter so i cant even take this out of the plastic bag it came in - we unpacked it the day after before we left and i had blisters on my arm for 3 days.
what do people do leave their brains at home when they get this stuff?

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?

We only received monetary wedding gifts BUT for my shower one of my moms friends made a shadow box of my wedding invitation ( she does this herself for everyone's shower)
She asked me beforehand what my wedding colors were, what kind of flowers we were using, and if I would prefer a gold or silver frame. I told her everything is red and we are using all roses. I also said gold would not match anything in our house but silver would go great.

Well the day of my shower I open up her gift...
First thing I noticed was the bright gold frame, second everything was green and purple!!! and I dont know the name of the flower inside but its definitly not a rose!!! I know its the thought that counts but why ask me if you are going to go ahead and do the opposite??
If that wasn't bad enough we did scroll invitations so they were kind of long.. well it got cut off and you dont even see a good chunk of the invitation!!

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?

Oh and someone else gave us a very nice custom frame with a wedding poem and a cutout for our wedding picture and underneath the picture was our names and wedding date. Well my DH's name was spelled wrong!! She could have just copied it off of the wedding invitation instead of guessing!
But luckily the person who made it included their # and website and was able to fix it for us.

Nadine, that made me think of the 'big fork and spoon' on the wall in the parents' house on Everybody Loves Raymond

I can't believe you gave away those gems.

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?

Someone accually put $40.00 in a card .AND THEY HAD A GUEST AT THE WEDDING!!!!

It would be different if they came up to me and said 'I am in a difficult time right now(financially).' I think that is SH*tty!!

We had two couples that gave us $50. I just assume that it was all they could afford and didn't let it bother me because I was glad that they were there. HOWEVER, we had 4 no-gifters! A simple card would have been fine. One did tell me she had a year to give me a gift, the others didn't even acknowledge that. That I thought was sh*tty.

How about 'Nothing'. We had a few guests that showed up without a gift. I mean, at least a card would have been nice.

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?

OH, a picture would be worth a thousand words here. It was a Waterford Crystal Eagle. The horror of this item is difficult to describe, and perhaps, more the tragedy that someone spent in the realm of $250 (which could have fed starving children) for it. I make the starving children remark not at all lightly as we registered for both gifts (for those parents friend who HAD to give something) versus giving to the favorite charities of DH and I. I wish that they had just done that - so much better a cause.
Even more remarkable, there were two eagle sizes available - this was a LIMITED edition LARGER one! Oh lord.

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?

These are hysterical!

I thought it was bad that my husbands uncle and aunt brought there 17 year old daughter (DH's 1st cousin) and her weird photographer boyfriend and gave us $100 total... money is not an object for these people. Plus this boyfriend/photographer guy followed my photographer around taking a million pictures of us he said he was going to send and I never saw any of them!

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?

I had one person who didn't give a gift, but it didn't really bother me, she was only 18, & I don't think she knew any better(I actually thought I would have had more no gifters, but I didn't). But, by far the worst gift was someone actually game us a guest book on my wedding day!!!!! And her husband was suppose to come & no showed without any explanation from her or him!

Re: I have to post this- Worst gift received as a Wedding gift?

For me the worst was those who didn't even give us a card and one was a close friend. I was very hurt. I wasn't expecting a gift from some people because they traveled but at least a card with a little note.
