I just got back from the doctor and...........
he's testing me for lupus
if any of you remember my post from a few weeks back when my primary care doc found that my ANA (antinuclear antibodies) test came back positive, today was my appointment with the rheumatologist......Dr. Porges in Roslyn- he went to Princeton & Cornell, and he seems like a great doctor, so that's comforting to know he should be able to properly diagnose me.
some of the reasons he thinks I might have lupus:
-positive result in the ANA test
-the sporadic numbness and changing in color (stark white to blue/purple) in my hands that I now know is called Raynaud's syndrome, this can be due to lupus
-my sensitivity to sunlight (can leave you blotchy from sun exposure not just sunburned, particularly in the face)
-lupus could also be a reason for the frequent headaches I get
he said I might just have a minor case of lupus, and then it could get worse later......but the scariest thing he told me is that lupus can also cause miscarriages. I know I don't know for sure yet if I have it, but its sooooo scary to hear that that is a possibility. Lupus is most prevalent in women 15-45 yrs old, it can be fatal and there is no cure.
I'm so scared.....DH went w/ me to the doctor and he just left to go to the Mets game and this is the first time I'm crying about it, I didn't want to seem so scared in front of him b/c I'm really hoping this is nothing.
I should get the test results in a week & a half to two weeks. Does anyone have info on lupus? or just some prayers for me!! thanks for reading all of this!!
