Did anyone else know that their wedding WAS NOT the center of everyone else's universe? Yes, it's important. Yes, it's a once in a lifetime experience. But NO, my wedding is not the center of anybody else's universe. I feel like so many people I know getting married don't get that. I just feel like people think because they are getting married, they have a sense of entitlement that is unrealistic. JMHO.

I was the same way. Even when I got back from my honeymoon, when some friends and coworkers would ask how it was, I would say that it was great! I had a blast! I didn't want to go on and on. I didn't go into things unless they didn't ask what did we do, were did we go, or how it was. Some people I could tell were just asking to be nice and they really weren't interested in hearing every detail of the honeymoon. I would leave it short and sweet.

I have to say I totally agree. Yes, I loved our wedding but I know some girls have these huge, mega bucks weddings. I never talked about our wedding to anyone who didn't actually ask how it was going, and even then, I kept it brief. I actually boycotted this site for a while during my planning b/c hearing everything people talked about and stressed over made me very nervous. And is it just me, or do you sometimes wonder if some girls are more excited about the wedding than marrying the actual guy? And I hate to break it to em...wedding's over in 5 mintues; the marriage is for life! (or intended to be!)
I so agree! And I also 'boycotted' this site...I actually posted a LOT more after the wedding because hearing people b!tch about how 'unfair' it is that their mom wasn't getting make-up done really got to me. I mean, a good friend of mine lost her mom...she would give anything to have her at her wedding - who cares about how people look?
And I also agree with the comment about girls liking drama and making it out of nothing...hmmmm, drama is not a BM that refuses to dye her shoes...how about a BM that drops out of your wedding the morning of because your mom couldn't finish her dress? How about a groom shopping at Saks for a BCBG BM's dress and hoping it matches the other girls? Is that drama? Because I survived and it was PERFECT! And the marriage IS forever - more people should focus on that!
This is what I'm getting at. I was trying to be diplomatic by not stating that it's people on THIS SITE that annoy the ever-living-sh!t out of me Reading the BHB boards just gives me more of an understanding of why the divorce rate in this country is so high. I feel like people don't 'get it' that a wedding is one day, and it's the marriage that's important. That's what bothers me. And I have plenty of friends like this, too. They think it's about the colors and the flowers, etc, and I never hear ONE WORD about how happy they are to be marrying the man they love. Don't get me wrong, I spent a lot of time planning my wedding, but I in NO WAY lost sight of the fact that it was to celebrate the fact that I found the most wonderful man in the world to marry.

I agree. I didn't do any extras. I wasn't the tradition bride, so to speak. I went simple with the flowers, I didn't even have church flowers, no tiera. I wanted something to suite and reflect me and Dh's (natural) style (if that makes any sense). I could care less about that other wedding b.s.! I wasn't out to have 'The Wedding of the Year' or to impress others, or to top anyone else. I really was so relaxed and not even into the plaining. I was excited to get married and speding the rest of my life with someone that I love. I also avoided this wedsite before I was getting married. I like the Newlywed page better.

Unfortunately some people would rather focus on small issues than the bigger one which is am I marrying the person I am supposed to spend the rest of my life with? I think its easier for some to focus on the small crap than look at bigger issues. I think you really hit the nail on the head when you said that is why the divorce rate is so high.

I agree with everyone here and have to go a step further and say that I felt that at my wedding I could have disappeared for hours and VERY FEW people would have noticed that I was missing. If most people feel like king and queen on the wedding day and felt like everyone wanted their attention, I felt the exact opposite and felt as if my wedding served a simply a pretty party. It was an excuse for relatives to eat and drink.
I was SO happy to be marrying my husband and it is a good thing that we enjoy each other's company because very few people were tugging at me at my wedding and I actually felt kind of lonely at some moments. Yes, it was a beautiful wedding with some pretty details, but I didn't feel like I was in the spotlight.
