Irish day is tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone going to the parade??? I'll be there!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who is wearing some green??? You ALL better be wearing some green!!!! EVERYONE is Irish on St Patrick's day!! We like to celebrate with all!!!
Don't wear any Orange though!!!!

I posted some Irish fun facts on my fb page!!!

Here are some fun facts on LIW for you!! (more on my fb page!!)
St Patrick was English (real name is thought to be Maewyn Succat) and sold into slavery as a teenager. He was a slave in Ireland for 6 years. Upon his return to Ireland he brought Christianity with him, using the shamrock to explain the holy trinity. He used the christian cross and combined it with a symbol of the god of the sun (or the sun cross) to blend Pagan Irish (or Druids in Ireland) to Christianity; now known as the Celtic Cross.

While the Irish have observed St Patrick's Day for thousands of years, 1762 was the year of the first St Patrick day parade in NYC!!!! GET YOUR GREEN ON!!!!! MARCH 17th!!!!!

Sorry... I get a little nutty for St Pat's day!!!!

I'm 1/4 Irish though you would never know by looking at me...I usually hole up in my house because I don't like being on the roads on 'amateur nights' lol. Not sure about the green, I might wear a green shirt, but 3/17 is also Saint Alexios day, so you know which one I have to celebrate haha. Though it seems like every day is Saint Alexios day in my household Bugger can't even let me get one of my heritage days in without greekifying it.

100% irish over here and I will be staying far away from the parade. I hate getting puked on and with that many drunks around the parade and on the trains its likely to happen.

I am however going to a local bar for Leprechaun Jello Wrestling so Im still celebrating a bit.

Hmm.. I've gone to the parade almost every year... and I've somehow managed to avoid being puked on every single time. And come to think of it.. I've never actually seen anyone get puked on either. so not at all likely to happen for me. and we take the subways... never happened on the subway either. There are def crowds.. but it's high energy and high green!!!! YAY!!!

What's nice about the parade is there are actually some less popular spots where there are relatively no drunk people and space so you can go right up to the barriers and watch right from there. the drunk people are all in the bars for the most part. I avoid the bars now... I can't deal with that!!! It's too much for me.

This year we are going to Central Park after the parade to hang out for a little bit. I prefer that to a bar in the city these days.

Now what in the world is leprechaun Jello Wresting???

Ye ask for it and ye shall receive it!!

Here are some more just for you!!

The word Leprechaun comes from a mixture of Luchorpan or small person and one shoemaker.
The US first observed St Patricks day in 1737 and today more than 100 US Citites hold a St. Patrick's Day parade.
Up until the 1970s, Irish Law prohibited pubs to be open on March 17th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
19 US Presidents claim Irish Heritage. 9 people who signed our Declaration of Independance were of Irish origin.
More than half of the soldiers who faught in the Revolutionary War had Irish ancestors.

The Shamrock is an ancient symbol for the goddess Brigit. Before St Patrick used it as a symbol for the Holy Trinity, it represented the Irish Triple Goddess (Goddess Brigit). Goddess Brigit was specifically associated with fertility (particularly birthing and motherhood) and the feminine aspect of the element of water, serpents (as many ancient ... See Moregoddesses were, and which it is interesting to note that St. Patrick supposedly 'chased all the serpents--aka pagans/goddess worshippers-- out of Ireland').

i've got a few of those shirts too!! And if it's too cold... it's perfectly OK to wear a long sleeve shirt under that Irish girl t shirt!!!!

St. Nicholas Day is December 6th, and I know this because our priest couldn't come to our reception because he had to do a service for it at another church that night (why it was the day before, I have no idea )

Re: Irish day is tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More info for you dreemer!!

Cead Mile Failte - a Hundred Thousand Welcomes!! That's usually on a sign near the door or a welcome mat.

Erin Go Bragh - Ireland Forever.

Erin is Ireland... anyone named erin is essentially named Ireland in gaelic!!!

My name Kerri is really Kerry and is a county in ireland. It's gaelic translation is dark eyes or dark one.

Sean is the same name as John in Gaelic. The correct irish spelling is sean, there is no H!! The Sea prefix makes a sh sound in gaelic. Thus the name Seamus is pronounced SHEAMUS.

YAY for some fun Irish Learning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh awesome! I'm sure I'll forget it though. But it always pops up and all of a sudden John will come home with a filled stocking or some little thing for the house and it's for St Nicolas day. it's kinda cute his mom does that. I mean honestly... any holiday where i get a gift is a great one for me!!
