Irish day is tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Original post by KerriJohnS

Anyone going to the parade??? I'll be there!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who is wearing some green??? You ALL better be wearing some green!!!! EVERYONE is Irish on St Patrick's day!! We like to celebrate with all!!!
Don't wear any Orange though!!!!

I posted some Irish fun facts on my fb page!!!

Here are some fun facts on LIW for you!! (more on my fb page!!)
St Patrick was English (real name is thought to be Maewyn Succat) and sold into slavery as a teenager. He was a slave in Ireland for 6 years. Upon his return to Ireland he brought Christianity with him, using the shamrock to explain the holy trinity. He used the christian cross and combined it with a symbol of the god of the sun (or the sun cross) to blend Pagan Irish (or Druids in Ireland) to Christianity; now known as the Celtic Cross.

While the Irish have observed St Patrick's Day for thousands of years, 1762 was the year of the first St Patrick day parade in NYC!!!! GET YOUR GREEN ON!!!!! MARCH 17th!!!!!

Sorry... I get a little nutty for St Pat's day!!!!

little christmas starts before christmas and ends on jan 6th..its something the italians do to honor the journey of the sheaprds to the manger...basically we leav our treeup til then to honor it and exchange a small gift

OK so you leave your tree up and give more gifts out?? Up until the 6th you guys give gifts? am i understanding this correctly?

bc any time i can get more gifts...i'm all for celebrating it!! haha!

we leave our tree up too. i believe it should be up for new years and then a few weeks after. i tried to keep it up to valentines day once.. but i dont recommend that.

Name translations to Irish

haha for me:
Megan/Margaret: means Pearl in Greek..
translated to in Irish: Mairéad, Maighread or Peig, Peigí

That's funny, my mom's name (Rita) means pearl too...I guess they consider it a derivative of Margaret/Margheurite/Margarita, etc.

Of course I’m wearing green! I love St. Patty’s even more the past two years since we got engaged on St. Patty’s Day!!

Nothing too exciting for me tomorrow though, I work Job #1 from 8:30 – 4:30 and Job #2 from 6-8. And I’m too old to go out after 8:30 on a work night.

100% irish over here and I will be staying far away from the parade. I hate getting puked on and with that many drunks around the parade and on the trains its likely to happen.

I am however going to a local bar for Leprechaun Jello Wrestling so Im still celebrating a bit.

Hmm.. I've gone to the parade almost every year... and I've somehow managed to avoid being puked on every single time. And come to think of it.. I've never actually seen anyone get puked on either. so not at all likely to happen for me. and we take the subways... never happened on the subway either. There are def crowds.. but it's high energy and high green!!!! YAY!!!

What's nice about the parade is there are actually some less popular spots where there are relatively no drunk people and space so you can go right up to the barriers and watch right from there. the drunk people are all in the bars for the most part. I avoid the bars now... I can't deal with that!!! It's too much for me.

This year we are going to Central Park after the parade to hang out for a little bit. I prefer that to a bar in the city these days.

Now what in the world is leprechaun Jello Wresting???

The LIRR is always nasty.

I have never been to Leprechaun Jello wrestling but I will post pics after tomorrow night.

Fabulous day for an engagement!!!!
If I had 2 jobs (which i did a few times in my life) i'd be too old to go out after 8:30 on a work night too!!!
Aren't you quite the working girl!! Glad you are wearing the green!!!!

I've never been on the LIRR on st Pat's day. have no reason to go in that direction on Irish day. NYC is where it's at!!

I'll be awaiting these pictures so you better post em!!

hey hey now.. no reason to be so down... all you have to do is wear green!! contrary to popular belief... st patrick's day is not about the drinkage. it's about st Patrick and it's actually a holy day. but really what you should do is make sure you have that green on!!! make sure it's a shirt too... so this way the lil one is kinda wearing some green too!!!!

ha if i were still preggers I'd probably paint a big shamrock on my stomach!! hahahaa!
