Original post by hunnybunnyxoxo
obviously, we can always use more money but aside from that, do you feel you are where you should be financially?

yes because i can stay home..we close on a house in a week and were buying a new car in a month or so and are completly renovating the house we bought..so with 1 income
id say were alright
i work 4 hours a week j(just one day) just to keep up with my skill..i dont want to lose it..so i maybe make $150 a week if you look at it that way..and my check gets DD into savings every week

so-so
I wish we could save as much $$ we were when we were planning the wedding. But with DH in school full time we can only put away so much!

yes and no....
we have enough money in the bank for a good down payment on a house, but we could definitely be making more money....

Yes and no. I have money but it's inheritance from my parents so it's not for spending.
Hopefully after I graduate (in grad school now) in August I'll get a better paying job but then comes the loan repayments

absolutely not
I am about to have student loans to pay off & hopefully a mortgage.. I do not make *nearly* enough money to pay for all this nonsense

Same here.
DH makes more than I, but he used to spend it so carelessly. I, on the other hand, make less but manage to make it work (coupons, sales, eat out less). We started putting away money about 6 months after our engagement.

I am
This year, without me working and basically shopping and planning vacations, I thought it would be difficult managing bills. Surprisingly, DH has been amazing with handling everything and supporting me and my shopping habits
we're doing ok right now and I finally start working in June so that's going to help a little and we'll be able to put money away for a home
We haven't come into any financial difficulties and have gone on 7 week of vacation since the wedding.

yes, we're okay. I mean, I would not refuse more, but I dont feel like I want for anything. I have been with DH for five years and he has taught me the value of paying cash for everything (no credit card debt) and saving money every week, without fail, even if it is just a little bit. we're looking for a house now because we were able to save a down payment and pay for the wedding in cash!!
i have to admit that I do not think that I would have been in this position unless DH insisted that I start saving!

sort of...we're not struggling....but between paying off my massive student loans and just monthly costs...it seems impossible to save for a down payment, even though we don't spend that much.

I am not thrilled right now, but we are not exactly poor by any means. Student loans definitely s u c k, and DH is taking a huge risk by changing the structure of his business. Legal Aid just got hit hard with a law suit, but i don't think I will be affected personally. Luckily, we already own a house in Boca Raton which we will have no mortgage on in 11 years and we rent a nice house up here. We are not really planning on buying a home up here, so I dunno.
I am keeping my fingers crossed-DH's plan could either bankrupt us or make us $$$$...I am praying for the latter!!!!
I do live paycheck to paycheck, but we still live fine, so I don't think I have a right to complain since I see the families i represent and the squalor they live in and it makes me grateful. But there are times that I want to scream.

Can your DH talk to mine-I think he needs to be more supportive of my shopping habit. I was a bad girl this weekend -I did my pre-op shopping on Bleeker St.

I would be thrilled if we had already purchased a home. We have saved a lot, but the prices in NYC are insane, so after we HOPEFULLY close on a place this summer, all that crazy saving will be gone and we will definitely be saving at a slower rate. That being said we travel a lot, dont really stress too much about finances, did not pay for our wedding and live in manhattan so cant really complain

Yes, considering that we both put ourselves through undergrad. and graduate school and paid for our wedding on our own.
we have a nice amount saved, but it's not enough for a house. i worry about mortgage payments and the like....we would be doing great if we lived anywhere but here!

eh I'm definitely not comfy right now...thank God DH makes good money. The house has really changed my financial outlook. That's why I'm working my butt off to get my +30 credits so I can move up on the payscale! I need a biiig raise to feel a little better!
Good thing is, DH will probably replace his boss when he retires in about 2 years...that will be a NIIICE big raise!

So so. I make good money, DH doesn't make as much. We don't have a lot in the bank, but we're not poor by any means. I live a really frugal life because I always act like we're poor, so it helps us save. Student loans do stink!

We are ok right now but can always use more. I have to Thank god for Dh. He is a saver and I am a waster. I am always over spending. As of now I make double what he makes and he still saves more than me. He will be making more than me by next year thank god. So things will get a little easier. Since we have been married he has taught me how to save :)
