Losing Weight??

Original post by squeekietoy

So, here's my situation. I'm currently about 60 lbs overweight. I've been on WW 3 times, it has only worked once for me and that one time it worked great. I lost 60 lbs but I wound up gaining 30 of it back. My other 2 attempts left me losing a grand total of 10 lbs and feeling dejected.

After that I went to a Primary Physician thinking that I might have a Thyroid problem, alas, I do not. My throid is perfectly normal. I've seen an Endocrinologist who has even run the gamut of tests on me and declared 'you are perfectly healthy'.

What is wrong with me? No matter how little I eat, I gain weight, no matter how much I eat, I gain weight. I don't know what other kind of doctor I could possibly see or what other things I could possibly be tested for.

Do you really measure everything you eat? B/c after I'm on a diet for awhile I get sloppy and estimate everything - and my estimated portions are always a lot larger than what they should be.

Plus,I hate to admit it, but exercise really works.

i think a lot of it is exercise - you NEED to exercise - and not even for the weight loss part - its not so much better for you - there are SO MANY reasons to exercise besides just losing weight.....

dont get discouraged - the weather is hopefully going to start getting a little nicer so maybe you can start walking/running and going to the gym

A combination of cardio and strength training (weights) is what is really needed to lose weight all over. It worked for me before my wedding but I just don't feel like doing it anymore I am going to start running and trying to do some strength training at home.

Definitely cardio and strength training is key. I like the Firm workouts because they incorporate both.

It sounds like you need to get your metabolism revved up. Are you not eating enough most of the time? If so your body can go into starvation mode. Also do you drink enough water? Try eating six small meals a day, and drink a ton of water, decaf tea. That may help to get your metabolism moving. Also make sure your eating enough protein at each meal. DH and I had some success with south beach awhile ago. It gets the weight of fast. Are you on any type of birth control? Sometimes that or other meds can be the culprit.

Re: Losing Weight??

when I was 15, i lost 90 lbs doing LA Weightloss (no exercise at all). Over the course of maybe 5 years i gained back maybe 30 of it (plus i grew a couple inches taller). When I went back on the very same diet, it was much more difficult to lose without any exercise. Within this last year, I began my own diet. I was working out (just basically power walking at least a mile 5 mornings a week) and eating a lot less than usual and I lost weight sooooo good. Reached the tiniest figure I've ever had in my whole life. My body is just naturally curvey though, so I never expected to be a size 2 and i still don't. But after the wedding, I ended up gaining back a horrible 10 pounds (and that's in only a matter or 2 1/2 months!!!!). So I've been working out again and trying to eat right and NOTHING. I think i just need to be stricter maybe. But my one concern was that it may be the BC I'm on (since a friend of mine on the same pill began blowing up like crazy). I'm taking a break from this particular BC for about a month and i'm going to see what happens. Maybe it has nothing at all to do with the pill, but rather my own lack of self discipline. Only time will tell

So i'm curious as to if you're on anything that could be stopping your ability to lose weight. Like any medication or BC. It's a possibility.

You have to mak esur eyou eat enough not to little. And it has to be a balance of Proteins/Carbs/grains etc. The more fiber the better. The main reason why people lose weight & keep it off is from excercise. U have to work out to lose weight. At least 30 min of cardio & 30 min of weights. Not heavy weights light weights more reps. Good luck.

I used to eat so much fiber when I was on Weight Watchers. It's pretty much what they preach. I was also working out 4 days a week, sometimes 5. And it was SO frustrating when I would step on the scale and it wouldn't budge. IDK if it's because I'm over 30 now or what. I mean, I AM on BC, but I've been on it since I'm 18. That didn't stop me from losing 60 lbs 4 years ago. I can't imagine why it would stop me from losing weight now.

Someone mentioned seeing a nutritionist. I would love to, but, my insurance doesn't cover it bc I'm not diabetic. Stupid.
