Newlyweds vs. Brides to be! (confession to make)

Newlyweds vs. Brides to be! (confession to make)

it seems like there was so much drama on the 07 board that it almost felt like the newlyweds were agains the brides!!!

i will confess the thing that NO one wants to truly admit....after my wedding has been over and done with.....all the posts on the 07 board seem slightly mundane concerning things like 'my invites are here!' or 'rsvps coming in!' this doesn't mean i'm not HAPPY for those ladies....i am! but at the same time, once your wedding comes and goes, you kind of feel a little 'over' all the little details that we all made a big deal out of. (i of course do not separate myself from this group...i did it too) after the day comes we all finally are like 'wow, i guess making sure i had a satin ribbon on each favor really wasn't that big a deal' or something along those lines.

i hope no one takes my words and twists them into thinking i'm saying i don't care about other brides ...cause i am in a fellow LIWers wedding this year, and have at least like 5 more weddings to go to...and i'm VERY happy for EACH and every lady. but i guess once you are married and the day comes....while you miss the excitement of YOUR day...you kind of feel a little 'over' the details.

any other fellow newlyweds feeling what i'm saying?

I feel you Mel!

You put it so well because if I tried to say it, It would have come off as offensive (apparently I have said things in the past that offended people).

I was always writing posts like that but now I dont have much interest... i have interest in the great brides getting married, dont get me wrong but I feel like my wedding was a year ago and I am so far removed from how I felt BEFORE the wedding...

I agree totally....

I think it's the metamorphosis from bride to wife. we have a sudden shift of responsibilites and concerns. They dramatically change from 'giant party with tons of people descending' to saving $$, redecorating, and looking at real estate.

since we're no longer in the reception mind-set, the details seem a distant memory....

what are you doing now? we're redecorating. we're re-doing the bedroom, and assembling tons of furniture.... (otherwise there will be no place for our china )

I know how you feel!! After my wedding I stuck around because I wanted to see the rest of the 2006 brides get married, but felt I had little in common. Now that it has been over a year since my wedding I find it hard to post anything!
That why I transitioned to LIF

Oh I completely agree. The rest of the '07 brides will come around and realize it when their weddings are over.

If I wrote something like that I get flamed b/c it would've come out HORRIBLY!!!

I LOVE still being able to live vicariously through the upcoming brides....but I will say I don't have much to post about anymore but it's not that I don't care...it's just that I have no wedding suggestions left in me lol & it's only been a month!

I still love watching them plan there weddings and if they need suggestions I'm there to supply but you're right about saying that when the day arrives...seriously....nothing matters except you and your DH.

Very well said, Melissa, and very true as well!!!!!!!!!!

That's why us 06ers stuck around, I always tried to help you ladies out while you were planning and point you in the 'right' direction. Meaning, I understood why things seemed important at the time but I stress the importance of the marriage moreso than just one day. And look what happened, you all got married and had beautiful weddings!!!!!!!

I hear you, I was a huge stressball about certain things but, in retrospect, they didn't matter.

Things went wrong at my wedding and I still had a perfect day

I do find myself though being more excited now about going to weddings than I was in the past. I liked to go to them before but, now I have a greater appreciation for all of the work that goes into them, having had one myself.

Yes! It's been NINE days since my wedding and I feel like all of the stuff I stressed over is so far in the past. I find myself on this board more than 07 now.

I better duck and cover after saying this but what the heck...I think brides to be tend to get a little hyper sensitive (I know I did!). They tend to whip out the 'Jump to Conclusions' game board a little quickly (again I know at times I did).

I remember nearly having a nervous breakdown bc my cardbox arrived the morning before the wedding and flipping out on DH bc he put co-workers that didn't get along at a table together. It is complete craziness but I admitt I was crazy.

I also admit that I too have little interest in wedding planning and am SO glad it's over. I have two good friends getting married and I actually feel bad for them bc I know the stress they are going to be dealing with very soon.

What does make me sad is the idea of never having a honeymoon again of course we will travel together but you only have one honeymoon

sorry to crash!

melissa, i think you made your point very well and very nicely. it was actually comforting to read because now i know i will stress less about the ittle things, knowing that they will not matter after the day is over. i cannot wait to be a newlywed and join you all officially!!

Nicely put Melissa I threw away all the bride magazines and catalogs after the wedding and a marathon of Bridezilla does not bring as much joy as it used to. But i still do love to see everyones photos and reviews (note to self write a review). Oh but I still do love Engaged and Underage some of those are like trainwrecks you just can't look away.

Re: Newlyweds vs. Brides to be! (confession to make)

It was always a little strange for me to see fellow brides obsess over really small things, like how the color of the custom-ordered M&Ms doesn't match the bridesmaids' dresses exactly. And now, after being married for six weeks, it seems even more absurd.

I know that details are important to people (believe me, they were important to me too; ask my husband about our invitation fiasco), but I watched so many brides focus on the wedding and not the marriage. It's the day you make a commitment to your partner in front of your friends and family. That's what's important in the end.

Am I going to get roasted for saying this? I should shut up now...

I am crashing- I have been over wedding planning for a few weeks now & I have 2.5 months more to go. For the past year, I ate, drank, and slept wedding thoughts & now I am so sick of talking about matching colors etc...

yay!! i'm so glad that i can be the voice of reason. i admit that as a 'bride' i was sensitive to things and made the biggest deal out of what music to give my string trio for the BP processional.....BUT now i'm like 'oh well'

especially since i was such an early bride....i stick around to give some words of wisdom to others and help planning here and there....and see all my fav LIWers get married.....but i admit...i don't spoooge anymore at favors and monograms. (okay well maybe my seats gets a little wet now and then...but that's just cause of melbalalala and her whore ways)

no one shall roast you---we won't allow it! i think now that the year is half over---sooo many 07 brides (as well as the great 06ers) can relate to what were talking about.

Ok.. Now I'm here... I have to agree that since I was engaged for awhile, I was over the whole 'planning thing' for a few months leading up to the wedding. I just stopped posting as well.. Eh, what are you going to do? I never was into the details anyway, so now that I'm married I'm definitely over it.. I am also totally aware that this is coming off strong, so I apologize in advance..

Yay MJ for being a bad azz as usual.. I heart you beetch.. You said what I never would have wanted to say....well- atleast not FIRST...
