No gift??

No gift??

Hi everyone!

This is my very first post on the Newlyweds Board.

What do/did you do in regards to guest who did not give a card or gift? DH and I are worried that we misplaced them and just want to know if we did or not!!

Thanks
Liz

Re: No gift??

Just wait a few weeks. We got 6 or 7 cards in the month after the wedding.

And CONGRATS on being a newlywed

We've gotten a few cards since the wedding - but only one was from somebody that attended, so I totally hear ya.

I'm just going to wait it out, and when it comes time to send TY's, I'll send one to those and thank them for attending the wedding but not mention a gift. If they sent one, they'll probably ask if we got it.

Part of me wants to investigate and ask people - but, that's pretty rude I guess. Technically they have a year to send it - even though I hate that rule cause I want my gifts now!

We had a few couples who didn't give a gift. I just plan on sending them a thank you that doesn't mention a gift.... and if they do end up sending one later on, I'll send another informal thank you note.

We were stiffed by a few people. And they will NOT be getting a thank you.

Sadly, there were a few and on top of that there was one person who said they forgot to leave the card and were putting it in the mail... and well, we've been married 1 1/2 months and nothing.

I hope you have better luck than we did

Hey ladies, crashing... but etiquette is people have up to a year to get you a gift... can you imagine... however you should still give them a thank you for coming to the wedding even if they didn't give you a gift.... I would also suggest calling in a few weeks to see if it 'accentually' got lost. Ya never know...

Re: No gift??

we were wondering the same thing... we had 4 couples who didn't give a gift.... i'm a little confused to because 2 of them are good friends and one works with DH!! It's almost our 1 month anniversary, and we got a glass bowl (chipped) in the mail from my aunt, but no mention of anything from the others... so when it's time for a thank you, they'll get a thank you for comming, and when they get married we'll give them the same thing they gave us!!

Re: No gift??

I'm probably just going to write 'Thank you for coming to our wedding' and leave it at that.

My brother had a funny idea that still makes me laugh. He said I should get thank-you's pre-printed that say 'Thank you for coming to our wedding and thank you for your gift', and then for the people who didn't give a gift, take a pen & put a line through the part that says 'thank you for your gift.' I wish I had the balls to do that!

do absolutely nothing......just wait it out. If they gave you a gift and you did indeed lose it, you'll know b/c they'll ask you about it when they don't get a thank you card.
But don't initiate it.......you may get something from them a year from now.

Re: No gift??

We had a few people not give us gifts. One was a GM and the other is getting married in two weeks. When I send out the TYs, I am just going to write 'Thank you for helping us celebrate our special day' or something like that. I heard people will call/mail you something if they legitimately forgot the gift. {How do you forget a gift to a wedding?}

We are having the same problem. If someone gave a gift and we didn't give them a Thank You I'd feel so bad. But there's no way to ask. We're stuck.

we had the same issue; i was freaking out about it, thinking we had lost them. but now i think we just got stiffed. its soooooo frustrating. i'll send a thank you for attending.

on a brighter note we're still getting gifts in the mail from people who didnt come.
