Offended.....and its OVERUSE

Original post by MJDoc12

so after reading thru the hot mess that was that crazy thread from last nite----i was thinking...do you guys think the word 'offended' is entirely overused these days, ESPECIALLY on these boards?

like if someone says something like was said on the 08 board a few days ago about how they at things brides go crazy over, now that they are a newlywed. after that there were all these 'i'm offended by what you said.'

i feel like on here and LIF ---people are 'offended' about anything and everything. i mean--its a messsage board of strangers....what are you getting offended about! i just don't understand it...maybe because it takes a LOT to offend me...but when did so many women become such whiny b*tches?

Yea thats my point though. Why do we NEED to add to the drama? or why do we need to post anythign we KNOW is going to be considered rude? Its just starting trouble to start trouble-for the sake of it. Thats what I consider ridiculous-not even offensive but childish and mean spiritied. Perhaps 'offensive' was the wrong word choice for my own points.

i agree

Melissa, I am offended by this thread!!!!!

Sorry, couldn't resist!!

Seriously tho, I absolutely agree with you. Everyone seems to be offended about anything and everything around here and on LIF. Actually I think LIF is worse, but don't tell them that they'd be highly offended!!

see now that is where its hairy....because what is considered rude to one person is not rude to another. obviously dominique didn't think what she posted was rude----but some of the brides thought it was.

to me---if i say 'no one gives a rat's azz about the crypacks you are stressing over' isn't rude---its my opinion. but i'm sure some b2bs will be like 'how dare you!! its super important to me and i will stress over it if i waaaaaant'

well if a girl writes 'i am stressing over cry packs' and you reply ' no one will care about them get over it ' wouldnt that be considered a little rude? i mean, isnt that the point of this site? i know that planning was very stressful to me. . .i have been seeing many NWs lately saying that they NEVER got caught up in the details and ONLY focused on their eternal union. . . i mean, if thats the truth that is awesome. . .as for me, i know i cried about my dress and RD and invitations along the way and i found support on here. . . so i would never turn around and tell someone its not important you know?

I wasn't referring to that kind of drama. I agree thats kinda silly but I let it roll off my baxck because I remember sterssing over my daisies wilting and I am sure people thought I was a loon.

I was referring to mroe outright snarky posts. Where maybe someone is havign a bad day and a snarky thread is made. Stuff like that. Its much elss prevalent than the crying over tissues but we all know it happens without pointing fingers or making mention of it. THATS what I am referring to.

I wish people would take into consideration that we are all different and want and stress over different things ex: I didnt have cry packs and didnt think they were important both DH and I laugh when nervous anxious whatever so we actually giggled through the ceremony.....however there were things that were huge to me that im sure other people dont care about ....I think people lose sight of the fact that this is a message board that is filled with oppinions and not a 'yes my dear you are always right and perfect and every one around you is crazy.' board lol

hence why threads go in circles!!!!

if someone literally wrote me when I was planning that no one is going to give a S H I T about my table #'s I'd be pissed b/c I worked farkin hard on those. SO I think people just need to be mindful of others & how they word things. Just b/c you don't get easily offended doesn't mean I won't. (not saying this for real but just stating to explain)

& frankly....here's my statement....we all know this topic of telling other brides to not sweat the small stuff causes serious issues every freakin like month....why even post it anymore lol

Exactly!!!!

We should focus on other things like engagement rings. Show me your ring and how much you paid for it

lets be real---the divorce rate is alarmingly high these days -- and sometimes when i see brides from any year (07, 08, 09..whatever) -- i see how they stress so much over the details and i think 'someone should buy this one a gift certificate to a divorce attorney for their wedding'. they lose sight of what its all about

How can you be sure? you only see what they post - not what they don't.

I agree with you on the super-sensitivity of some people but I have to disagree with this statement.

Just because someone stresses over a wedding and it's details doesn't mean they lose sight of what it's all about.

If someone were to stress over the baby's room, does it mean they lose sight over what creating life is all about?

If someone were stress over the organization in their class notes, does it mean they lose sight of what an education is all about?

I think 'they lose sight over what it's all about' is overused, and untrue. It's a baseless judgment. We don't know any of these women (save for a few we've become close with) and what goes on in their life. Because they post about napkins and cry packs - they don't know what marriage is about? Give me a break.

You do have to be VERY careful about what you say on any bridal website and how you word everything. I find a lot brides on any given site, take everything you say to heart and many can be very nasty. The cat fighting almost killed it for me when I was engaged.

well my whole point i was saying is that sure--ppl will say things that pissss you off---BUT if someone says something that makes you mad as a bride---posting about how it offends and angers you has about as much point as trying to take a p*ss in a the corner of a round room. sayign 'well my special customized aisle runner is super important to me and i'm angry that you said its stupid' isn't going to make a bit of difference to the person who made the comment. which is why the threads go on in circles and become drama...cause neither side will change their minds.

which is why i say 'why bother being offended? its a wasted feeling'

are you seriously comparing stressing over class notes is the same as boo-hooing over whether or not the bridesmaid dresses are the same color as the invitation border??

yeah you should stress over class notes to finish a class and get good grades.....you shouldn't get your panties in a bunch of wedding crap

yes thats right i said WEDDING CRAP.

All I'm saying is that no one really knows anyone so how can you make a baseless statement that they'll be divorced? And that they lose sight of what it's all about? How do you know what they feel?

How do you know that they don't know what marriage is about? Answer that question - don't answer me with sarcasm. Tell me how, you Melissa, know that these women lose sight of what it's all about.

You can't, because you DON'T know, and your statement was simply untrue and judgemental.

Re: Offended.....and its OVERUSE

i agree with what Melissa is saying..

basically in my eyes..i believe life is too short to sweat the small stuff.. just concentrate on the big picture.. people get way too offended over little things.

and before LIW.. i never heard of doing cry packs, aisle runners, grooms cake. its just a personal taste and if someone thinks its dumb or stupid than thats their problem.. its not their wedding.. so who cares..
