Its really awful. Its a shame that heterosexuals can get married and our divorce rate is sky high. And there are some same-sex couple who havebeen together a lifetime but cant exchange vows. Its a sad thing.

Re: Proposition 8 passed. no to gay marriage in Cali
This is from people:
Californians voted Tuesday to ban same-sex marriage, setting the stage for a court battle over the legitimacy of roughly 16,000 such marriages – including those of celeb couples Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi and Star Trek's George Takei and Brad Altman
How can they just turn around now and say that their marrages don't count?????? Thats just wrong and disgusting. It was legitimate at the time and shouldnt now be viewed as not legitimate. Too bad that on the same day an African American becomes president gays are told 'sorry but we decided your not married after all.' Who the eff cares if they are married or not? They will be gay regardless. Not being able to marry doesn't change this. Its sad when our country trys to stop love.

This is horrible!! I see nothing wrong with two people wanting to symbolize their love to one another. Why do they have to be treated like this. They are Just like any other couple out their except the like the same sex... If I could I would start a huge rally for all Gay Americans!! AND I LOVE ELLEN!!!!!
Re: Proposition 8 passed. no to gay marriage in Cali
I don't understand this. How can the law dictate who you can and can't marry? It just seems so old school, I can't believe we're really dealing with this in 2008

Gay marriage is a fairly new concept & my guess is people really need time to understand it- myself, I am undecided, I have an aunt who married her partner in canada and a cousin who married his in cali while it was legal- while I fully support them- I am not sure I understand gay marriage-
Disclaimer- please dont anyone jump on me for this, am being honest

ITA. They are tax paying citizens, just like everyone else, they work, just like everyone else, they contribute to society, just like everyone else?
who cares if it is two men or two women?

From a moral and religious standpoint I can understand why some people cant accept it. But everyone should have the right to marry who they love. Especially if they are tax paying citizens of this country. I dont think anyone will jump on you for your opinion. I appreciate your honesty on the subject people we dont hear a lot of people on the other side of the fence. I guess theyre afraid of getting flamed too. But I can understand your viewpoint.

ya I appreciate your honesty. I also see why people feel that way from religious points of view.
In my opinion if someone doesn't like it or agree with it, then they don't have to do it. But these people are tax paying citizens and are not hurting anyone. So I think they deserve the right to do what they want. If someone has a moral or religious problem with it, then they should just figure god will decide their ultimate fate.

Yes it is the religious part that I am questioning- BUT I do think that they should be afforded every benefit that a married couple has- healthcare benefits, social security, ability to leave one partner a home upon death, and also medical care proxy
The only way to get these things is through a marriage- I think the government should make some specifications that allow partners to get these benefits but not call it marriage
and I see where you are all coming from- they do pay taxes and should have the same rights- so that leaves me right back where I started, unsure

Well some places have domestic partnership. DH's job has it here which was why I was able to have his insurance before marriage. That was awesome. I dont know how many places have it but it should be mandatory.

I still don't get it. Religions that frown upon gay marriage aren't everyones religion. Why do some religions get to dictate the law and not others?

Re: Proposition 8 passed. no to gay marriage in Cali
Because as much as we'd like to believe it we really dont have seperation of church and state. Our country's morals are based on Christianity whether we like it or not. I agree with you on this 100 percent. We are a diverse nation and religion should be seperate especially considering we have people of different faiths.
