One of my bridesmaids called me a few days ago to tell me that she was just at a bridal shower (she's a bridesmaid in that wedding) and that she didn't have to help open the gifts because the restaurant staff did it for the bride.
I just thought she was trying to 'say' something...Of course, in my head, I was thinking, 'WOW, the only help I got from my bridesmaids was opening the gifts at my shower and 2 of you helped assemble my programs. Sorry I was so demanding...'
I just said, 'oh, wow. At every shower I went to, the bridesmaids opened the gifts. Even when I was my cousin's BM 10 years ago, we opened the gifts...and also at her baby shower last year.'
And, then we changed the subject. But, I thought that the bridesmaids help open the gifts, don't they?

Yeah, I mean, my bridesmaids handed me gifts to open, and one took the paper, one took the bow (for the hat), and one wrote down what it was and who from, but *I* ripped that paper, d@mmit!!!!!!!!!!!!

Same here! My sisters may have ripped a corner, but I would've been pissed if they had gotten too helpful! At my younger sister's baby shower, my cousin practically unwrapped every single gift for her in entirety and it made me soooo mad (first of all, who the heLL did she think she was helping MY sister open the gifts?!). IMO it totally takes the fun out of it when somebody hands you an unwrapped present. Booorrrrinngggg!

I had help too. One wrote everything down, another made the ribbon bo-k, one handed me stuff to open. The only opening that was done by them was the start of the gift wrap at the ends so that it would be easier for me to rip apart.
At every shower I've been to the bride or mommy to be has had help opening their gifts. I've even helped out at friends/cousins showers when not all the BM's were there.

I only had a MOH, but she helped me open my gifts and my cousins wrote down what I got and helped repack.
The restaurant workers did help move the larger items out of the way but they never opened anything.

yeah, that wa more what mine was like. I just had 2 bms, and a smaller shower, so it didn't take too long. My MOH handed me things, my bm, took gathered the paper for the trash & my Godmother kept the list.
At my friends, we helped a litle more to speed it up, we took any ribons or bows before we handed it to her, but I think she did all the paper opening. I have never seen the staff help. I think they provided the trash bag for us.

My one sister handed me the presents while my other sister took the wrapping paper from me for garbage. If it was a big box she would help me unwrap the side she was on.

No, my bridemaid's didn't help me open...my adorable nieces did though! They got a hat to wear as well.

Personally, I've never been a fan of showers where the bridal party opened the gifts for the bride. Where's the fun in that?
I have been involved where we helped by taking the card out of the envelope, but the bride still ripped the paper, and had the surprise of opening the gift.
At my shower, the bridal party just handed me stuff, and then took it away when it was opened. Someone also sat and recorded what I got from who which made doing my thank you's much easier.
Just my opinion and experience.

All of the girls in my bridal party helped me in some way or another the day of my shower...they actually did not physically opened the gifts...I wanted to do that part...but they did help by handing all of the gifts to me, one made the bow hat, one wrote down all of the gifts and who gave them to me...etc, etc...

My FG helped me and she would not let anyone else but me and her open them. She kept asking me if she could keep my bridezilla doll and i could keep all of the other gifts. It was really cute. I went to a shower that they were running out of time at the hall they rented and everyone from the restaurant and her family and friends were franticly opening up the gifts. I was crazy.

My BP had a little assembly line going. I had one writing who gave what and one making the ribbon hat. Th rest of the girls were unwrapping, passing and then stacking all of my gifts. No offense so anyone who opened their own gifts, but it gets extremely boring watching peopl open gifts. I wanted to get through min as quickly as possible.

they had to because my mom invited so many people at the shower. more-so towards the end of the shower. They let me open the first ones alone

At every shower I have attended, the bridesmaids helped the bride open the gifts. Even at baby showers, the mother-to-be's friends help her open the gifts.
