Re: So fess up...
As much as Id love to start trying, we just aren't ready.. We are both still very selfish and have a lot to do with furnishing our house. DH and I bought our townhouse and have slowly started to furnish it and make it our own. Until thats complete, I can't see us having a baby..
My MIL asks DH's just about everyday if there's any news we want to share.. he just says Nope and continues onto another topic.! lol

my original plan was to wait until we had a house, and live there and enjoy it for a year, then start trying. instead we started trying last august. DH will be 40 next march, and he really wanted to be a daddy before 40, so we started even before we sold our condo.
now i'm 4 months pregnant, we're renovating our house, and hoping to get most of it done by the time the baby comes in Sept. i still don't think it has hit us just how much our lives will change come sept, but we cannot wait.
if we were 5 years younger, we definitely would have waited a couple a years.
Our original plan was to wait also, and with everything in the economy , my apt. not selling, my job not being stable we thought it might be best to wait. But DH is going to be 35 in Oct. and I'll be 34, we don't want to be much older when we start trying. We figured there is no ideal time to have a child and out child will not want for anything. I can continue consulting through this tough economy and DH has a very stable job and great benefits (health, etc.).
Honestly if we were 5 years younger we would want to wait a couple of years. We both also have fully enjoyed our single lives and lives together that if we were to have children tomorrow we wouldn't feel like we'd be missing out on anything.
CONGRATS TEENA!!!

Thanks!
That's exactly how we feel too. Ideally, yes, we'd love to have more 'us' time, but we've had that, and we know we also want to enjoy our children's lives. the longer we wait to have kids, the older we'll be when we're grandparents (if we get to live that long). is it the ideal time for us to start a family no, probably not, but it's as close as it's going to be.

Re: So fess up...
What scares me most about having a kid is my MIL. It is so stressfull thinking about all the drama and fights she will cause b/c she will do whatever she wants no matter what I tell her...b/c she has made it clear that when she has her grandchild for the weekend or whenever we let her watch him/her, she will do what she wants...I don't like that. That is probably 50% of the reason why I don't want to have a child, and the other 50% is that I just don't have the patience. Sometimes I think it would be nice to have a kid, but then I think about the tantrums, the crying, the whining, the no listening to what me or daddy say, it's just too over bearing to even THINK about. It scares the crap out of me...and as much as I get baby fever, it is quickly squashed by the thoughts that I just mentioned. =/ I am fine with never having kids, and I am sure I will have my moments of wanting them, but I don't think it will ever really happen.

I feel like the more I wait the less I want children
Thank you for your honesty. I feel the exact same way. We are toying with the idea of keeping it 'just us' It seems so nice. I can't think of any reasons to rush it. I don't know - I don't really like kids other than my nieces and nephews and I am just enjoying my 'ME' time when DH is out and our 'US' time when he is home.
it is not like we have some crazy club hopping lifestyle - but we see our friends every weekend, sometimes during the week too . . .
I swear sometimes I feel like we are going to have kids just not to become that 'wierd couple' with like 40 dogs LOL
so stressful.
I find that being brutally honest, especially with family, gets them to stop asking me about it I cringe and say HELL NO when anyone asks me and lately the question hasnt come up at family events! Im the same as you where we are n ot crazy club goers but we enjoy our freedom to go out with our friends or have dinners and not have to worry. I also enjoy our freedom as a couple. It is stressful, I try not to think about it and hope that in a few years my mentality will change (at least for DH's sake )

Re: So fess up...
I wanted them as soon as I met dh lol but we waited a year after we got married. Now that im prego...its the most amazing thing in the world! Its so beautiful!!! We are so happy. We will be hopefully moving into our house before the baby is born...its going to be cutting it close, but its all so exciting...a house...a baby! Im 26 and dh is 32....We have been together a total of 6 years, traveled, ate out at every restaurant, Those things got old after awhile to us, and we are fully ready to do all of that with a child if we need to. I cant wait to take our baby fishing on our boat and drive on the beach with our truck! This baby will be coming every where with us!
SO the answer to your question we waited a year longer than what we wanted to wait.

Re: So fess up...
I definitely get the itch on and off, but like some of you said, i think about trips more than kids I wish it wasnt that way becuase i feel like that makes me a little selfish. Im going to be 30 this year and i feel like i should be super itchy all the time- but im not. Honestly, i hope i get the itch soon. I dont want to wait much longer so we'll see.

I don't think it's selfish. I think that as a human being you know that having a child is a big ordeal and will take up a lot of your time, so planning to do the things you want to do before hand is smart.
It's better than doing it after the child is born and leaving them behind or having to lug them along with you lol Just my opinion.

Take your time! I would never ever change anything BUT... those little buggers change EVERYTHING?
- Want to go out to dinner? Great - will it be during nap time? - Wanna go away for a girl's weekend? SURE! As long as you have enough breast milk in the freezer - wanna go out to dinner? Sounds awesome, but the baby screams whenever you leave the room - Hey - wanna go for sushi, wine, drinks, cheese, a smoke, skiiing, surfing, boogey boarding... etc? Yeah, can't do that while pregnant.
get my drift....?
lol I love the way you put this!! believe me I'm still waiting! I'm in no way rushing to have kids!!!! But I do have an itch sometimes..I'm not going to lie!

I don't think it makes you selfish at all. I think it sounds like you listen to yourself. I think some women feel pressured when they start nearing 30 and I don't think that is fair to women. Everyone is different and everyone is ready to have children at a different times.

for those of us who said we are waiting bc of those reasons, its not like we are saying no to kids for restaurants or specific trips. Its just the whole idea of alone time thats all. I dont think most of us would say i'd rather go out to restaurants than have a child together. When it comes down to it, its just the whole part of just us, its just relationship wise.
Not saying anything about anyones decisions bc either one anyone chooses hey thats your life and do what makes you happy.

Re: So fess up...
I am not sure, and I am 'old' to be saying that and not be actively TTC.....lol. DH wants one but I would rather adopt....I am scared of the pregnancy not just bec of the actual pregnancy but bec I have some medical issues...and I'm not sure how much my health would be compromised if I made my body go through a pregnancy. ALthough many, many women go through it, it is hard on your body even if you are 100% healthy in so many ways and it scares me. Also, I love traveling and being on my own and DH's timetable....sometimes I think I would be happy w/o kids, and sometimes I'm not sure. So I guess I'm just confused right now....(sigh)!!!
