stupid vent but a vent none the less

So my sister came over and when she was about to leave she saw a note and a bad on the fence so she brought it back to me. It was a letter from my landlady. I know this is her house and she pays all the bills but she wants us to put a timer on our A/C claiming that since she isnt running her A/C we cant run our A/C all day since we live in the lower level and that its 10 degrees cooler down here then up there? Oh and we dont have any windows except the bedroom(now with A/C unit), the bathroom and the boiler room window. We have French Doors as our enterence so no living room windows. But she didnt buy as a timer its a Kill A watt she wants us to live comfortably but I am not comfortable waiting till 8pm by the time the A/C starts to work. And I guess its going to be 90 degrees when I get back from our mini vacation from VA since we'll have to turn the A/c off.

Oh then I am going to beat DH since he is ordering movies on the cable box ( which we asked for a 2nd cable box on numerous occassions and she still hasnt given us one since she claims she is switching to FIOS so we have to constently move our cable box from the Living room to the Bedroom).

:sigh: to be able to afford my home would be super fantastic

Re: stupid vent but a vent none the less

Kim- does she pay your electric? If not she has no right to say anything. If so- offer to give her the difference in the bill for the A/C.

Sorry you are going through this

I agree, try to offer to pay for the difference, but make sure you see the actual electric bill so you know the exact amount to pay.

hope things get better!

Re: stupid vent but a vent none the less

sorry but i think she's right ... it gets expensive to have the AC running 24/7 and if she's paying it, she has a right to ask that of you. stupid of her to buy the wrong thing (not the timer) though ...

Re: stupid vent but a vent none the less

she does pay the electric but in the lease never stated on times to run the A/C but I dont mind the timer situation if she bought us a timer and not a Watt reader good thing I have a timer already on the A/C unit we are going to use for the time being.

Re: stupid vent but a vent none the less

I think the timer thing is totally fair. And when u do pay your own bills, you may think twice about letting the ac run 24/7...at lwast this will get u in a good habit maybe

I have to agree. Electric can get expensive in the summer months. We have to leave the AC on all day for Darwin and our electric bills are obscene. You're not going to want to leave it on when you're a homeowner!!

Just swap out her Watt reader for the timer and call it a day. Set it for before you get home so the place cools down. Maybe she was confused and bought the wrong thing.
