I would also equate the two because lets face it this bill does effect our civil liberties. When government steps in to make your choices that is taking away your civil liberties.
I agree, which is what I mean about the founding fathers rolling in their graves. Not all, Adams would probably be ok with it, but the overall decision was to add a Bill of Rights to prevent the Federal Government from having to much power. I do feel like little by little the Bill of Rights are being taken away and that scares me.

...naturally, it's wise to question government, that's in fact one of the tenets our nation was founded upon. it's what makes the United States of AMERICA (ahem) the vibrant, dynamic and unique country that it is.
that being said, it's because you live in this US of AMERICA (ahem) that you can say things that reference socialist and communist nations in comparison to your own free nation - freedom of speech. that's why we can have discussions, - lively, passionate discussions.
finally, i also think that the past dictates that change is always a difficult and lengthy process - takes decades at times. it's unwise to expect anyone, president or otherwise to wave a magical wand to fix issues that are 30+ years in the making. i don't know anyone personally who's read the entire bill, so unless you've read it, and actually comprehend it entirely (which would make you amazing because it doesn't seem particularly easy to understand by even those that have co-written it)...that it's not helpful to a climate of change to react with such (no disrespect) but blind opposition OR support for that matter for something that is slowly unfolding. only time will reveal whether or not it was a good idea anyway. i don't support or reject anything entirely. Social Security is 'socialism' as is education... and any other public service that is governmentally support/run. nope, none of those are perfect either. our 'socialist' post office was so poorly run that it was eventually privatized (like insurance)... and now look at it, they want to stop mail delivery on saturdays. insurance..well we know how that's been 'serving' the public... (note sarcasm) SO... my point is, don't judge so hastily. we don't know yet what is to be. and that i'm hopeful that this bill will help lots of those that can't otherwise afford any health care. people like my parents, small biz owners maybe won't have to pay 1500/month, plus a 10,000 deductible to cover my mom's heart issues. or that kids with disabilities will get coverage and not be told that their cerebral palsy is a 'pre-existing condition' and therefore families are SIL. ...i have to believe that...well, the works of the past ...they ain't working... maybe this will lead to some positive change. who knows? i don't. but i'm hopeful.
i don't think it's wise to throw words like socialist around, China, BTW is communist. not to be confused with socialist. Italy would have made more sense. and their healthcare is amazing. ps, we do live in AMERICA ...but i digress...
in the end, no one should expect to agree or disagree. i'd like to think that it's a good thing that this bill is 'idealistic' ...because once again, it's idealism that breeds questions, and change.
i'm done now. nite nite. no further comment. nope. not gonna say another word.
peace. xo
Very well said and couldnt agree with it more!!!!!
ok, two more: thanks gail :o)

I'm not trying to start beef here but I'm aware that China is a communist nation. But thanks.
And even if its preliminary, we are all still entitled to agree or disagree on this.
This might be a silly question and pardon me if it is, but how is legislation reversed? For instance, if the next president comes in (hypothetical obvi) and decides this is ridiculous, then what happens? Can he get rid of it? Just curious.

Actually 30 states are currently starting lawsuits against the constitutionality of the bill, so that is the first way it could get reversed. That puts it in the hands of the Supreme Court, but 30 states is a lot for the Supreme Court to ignore. Although they don't answer to anyone (one thing I think the founding fathers got wrong) so they could do what they want.
There are a few things that they are arguing are unconstitutional about it, but most notably that it gave different things to different states... like CT is getting money for a hospital.

and in answer to your last question: i don't know, because i'm not a politician. ask your local congress-person.

I also think its interesting what you wrote earlier...with more than half the population opposing this bill and their elected officials voting for it--it should make November VERY entertaining.
I bet all their phones are ringing off the wall...
FYI the only area politician that voted against it was Peter King.

And I know about china the country and china placesettings for my table! weeeeeee! What would I do without LIW?!
You definitley wouldnt be involved in an awesome debate at almost 11:00 at night if it wasnt for LIW!!!!
Its almost time to take my generic ambien which I got with my not so awesome health care insurance that I pay a fortune for! Then my posts should get really interesting . *giggle*
Oh U R KILLING ME! Lol Well here is my FB status this evening! ENJOY! So let me get this straight. We're passing a health care plan written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a congress that exempts themselves from it, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese and financed by a country that's broke. What could possibly go wrong????

Re: The Health Care Bill
WOW LIW gets political!!!!
I agree a lot with MLAngelo!! ha! I tie this in at the end.
I also think it's scary that we owe so much money to China!!!!!! Just insane and sad.
And yes Marissa.... it is a war over oil. I agree. oil rules the world these days.... because it equates to money.... the rich get richer... and well you know the rest.
I for one would REALLY like to say that I ABSOLUTELY DID NOT VOTE FOR THE BABBLING BUFFOON BUSH..... 2 TIMES I DID NOT VOTE FOR HIM!!!! I don't know who all the hands down people who did vote for him (I'll go out on a limb here and say middle America or the bible belt - they tend to always go red)...... And from my recollection... there were some quite shady instances that went on BOTH times he 'won' the elections. The first was with Florida, then Ohio. IMHO.... he didn't win. But really ALL I really wanted to put out there to the internet world is that I did NOT vote for Bush!!! haha. ANYONE taking on the job to clean up after GWB has quite a task on their hands. It's not an easy job.... and it's something that will for sure take a lot more time than promised. But when there's an election to be won... all you can do is promise promise promise because you want those votes. Ever notice how politicians start to act around election time?? haha... clearly I am not a fox 5 news watcher!
The bill... has some good aspects and some not so great aspects. They could have come up with something better. It's very telling that there seems to be NO ONE out there that's totally gung ho about the bill. Even those that do like it have issues with many areas of it.
Really though... the worst part of it is that we the people are those who suffer the most. It's always at our expense. And MLAngelo... what makes it worse is exactly what you hit on... we don't have much power or control over it anymore. We can vote one way....and our 'choice' isn't always the winner.
Oh and I think ALL insurance companies need to change. It's RIDICULOUS how they run. How they can deny you because of a preexisting condition or they way they can just drop you for filing a claim... which is HELLO the reason we have insurance. It seems more like they just want our money but no reciprocation. Yes I will take your money, No I will not pay that claim but if you'd like to send me more money that would be nice. And this is a blanket for ALL types of insurance companies!! From health to car to yes even cell phone insurance (they dropped me for using them 2 times in a 12 month period... even though I've paid them for about 10 years!!!!). I'm sick of insurance companies and the way they operate. I really believe the way insurance companies operate must change.

Re: The Health Care Bill
I love all the interesting comments here. And I love how you all keep it respectful which to me is the most important part.
I am a proud Fox news watching Bush voter. The man wasn't perfect, but he treated our country with respect. Our country is going to be completely run by the governement if we keep Obama in the White House. I can't wait to NOT vote for him again.
