Re: valentine's day
DH told me he made reservations at Morton's, and had some sort of surprise for me. However, he forgot I am working that day, and had to change the reservation b/c i told him I could not work an earlier day. I am too scared with all that has been going on in the world. I want to stay under the radar at work as much as possible.
I think I ruined his plans though. I told him we don't have to spend that much money on v-day. I would rather stay home and have him make dinner. I feel bad like I burst his bubble. We just got married this month, and I feel like we shouldn't be spending a lot of money. So as for now I am not sure if he canceled the plans or not.

we were going to go up to the culinary institute of america and have lunch and spend the day in the area, but now we are spending the day with our nieces since it is their bday celebration! we are still going to the culinary institute but just not for vday.
Which restaurant? I'm an alum. Colavita is my favorite!!

Re: valentine's day
Last year we were trying to save money so we went to Trader Joe's and got a bunch of appetizers and had a great dinner in with some wine. I think we're going to do it this year and from now on. Sure saves money and no need for something fancy.

hi! i noticed on your FB that you were an alum actually :) DH is obsessed with the CIA (i think he secretly wishes he had gone to culinary school). anyway, we are going to American Bounty. we ate there once before and loved it! i guess we are creatures of habit is colavita the italian place? we'd eventually like to check them all out. our reservation is for march now since we couldn't make it on vday.

Haha! I have actually never eaten at American Bounty or even been inside the restaurant. For our last few weeks we have to work in the restaurants in the kitchen and front of the house but I never worked at that one. I worked at all the others. Colavita is the Italian restaurant and my favorite out of the 4. Favorite food and favorite to work in too. Enjoy it when you go.

cool! next time we'll definitely check out Colavita! i'm sure this will not be our last time there :) btw...last time we were there, i read the note they put on the bill about how all the students work in the restaurants before their graduation and i got SO choked up reading it. i don't know why but i was just so impressed by the service and food and thought of what a big deal it must be for the students. and that's about all it takes to bring a tear to my eye

Re: valentine's day
DH just had knee surgery so I'm not sure. Depending on how he's feeling we are either going to our fav. italian place or I'm going to cook filet mingons for both of us at home.

We were going to use a gift card we got to Waterzooi, but I think we are going to my parents' 2nd home in the poconos for the weekend - free and relaxing. We'll take walks with the dog and some drives around the area, and BBQ at night and watch movies. We're going to save the gift card for another time!

Yeah it's a cool set up. A lot of people can't believe we're students. The gratuity card is cool but a lot of people also leave money on the table and then we're allowed to take it. We usually give a cut to the bartender but it's fun to actually make some money. We also had cool contests-like at the Italian restaurant if we were able to sell a certain amount of aperitifs after class we got to split fancy bottles of wine. The restaurant set-up is different than any other culinary school and I loved that about it. Well enjoy it and make sure to go the Apple Pie bakery too.
