Re: weird family guy question
I dont think they can. Because he threatens his mother all the time and she just picks him up and cuddles him. The dog is the only one that can hear him I am pretty sure-I should call my brother and ask. He's the family 'Family Guy' expert.

Re: weird family guy question
LOL I was wrong...
And this excerpt is from Wikipedia:
Brian Griffin always understands Brian is, as of now, the only main character whose ability to understand Stewie is unambiguous; the two always converse normally.
In 'Running Mates', Brian briefly appears to hear Stewie's thoughts; this phenomenon has not been explored in subsequent episodes.[13]
Adults understand, but disregard Stewie Throughout the first two seasons of the series, it was suggested that none of the other prominent characters (with some minor exceptions) could understand what Stewie says, apparently hearing what he says through their ears as infantile blathering.
At the end of the episode 'E. Peterbus Unum', the question of whether adults could understand Stewie is raised. In the DVD audio commentary, MacFarlane explains adults can understand him, but don't take him seriously, 'sort of like... if a four-year-old who [could] talk told you to '**** off', you'd think it'd be cute.' In this manner, characters acknowledge Stewie, but pay no mind to his often-insulting addresses, such as calling Peter 'the fat man' and referring to Lois by her given name. His insults are occasionally heard, such as when Stewie tells Lois 'Why don't you burn in hell?!' Lois replies, 'Well, no dessert for you, young man.'[3]
Ironically now that I read this I remember that episode where she did answer him directly.

Re: weird family guy question
In the early episodes it was unclear whether the family could hear and understand Stewie. There was evidence either way -- some showing that they weren't reacting to what Stewie was saying (indicating they couldn't hear him), and other evidence where they did react to him.
However, in the later seasons, it became clear that everyone, not just the family, can speak to and understand Stewie. A clear example of this is when Stewie twice becomes a 'singing sensation' -- once with Brian and Frank Sinatra Jr., and a second time when Stewie and a little girl form a song and dance duo. (Also, similarly, when the family moves to Texas after Stewie is accused of being the antichrist for thowing up the 'host', Stewie enters and wins the LIttle Miss Texas pageant.
There is also other evidence of direct interaction and conversation with Stewie.
Sorry, DH and I are big fan of Family Guy, The Simpson and American Dad.
