weird family guy question

hhhm - interesting question and DH and I wondered that, too.

It seems as though Stewie sometimes asks questons, which his parents do answer.

So perhaps he's babbling, like all babies do, and they translate it as they like

Brian is, as of now, the only main character whose ability to understand Stewie is unambiguous; the two always converse normally.

In 'Running Mates', Brian briefly appears to hear Stewie's thoughts; this phenomenon has not been explored in subsequent episodes.[13]


Adults understand, but disregard Stewie
Throughout the first two seasons of the series, it was suggested that none of the other prominent characters (with some minor exceptions) could understand what Stewie says, apparently hearing what he says through their ears as infantile blathering.

At the end of the episode 'E. Peterbus Unum', the question of whether adults could understand Stewie is raised. In the DVD audio commentary, MacFarlane explains adults can understand him, but don't take him seriously, 'sort of like... if a four-year-old who [could] talk told you to '**** off', you'd think it'd be cute.' In this manner, characters acknowledge Stewie, but pay no mind to his often-insulting addresses, such as calling Peter 'the fat man' and referring to Lois by her given name. His insults are occasionally heard, such as when Stewie tells Lois 'Why don't you burn in hell?!' Lois replies, 'Well, no dessert for you, young man.'[3]

Ironically now that I read this I remember that episode where she did answer him directly.

we went to see Family Guy Live a few years ago, they did a live reading of one of the episodes. it was so cool!!

basically, seth's real voice IS brian!

one of the cast members said its freaky when he calls them on the phone ... they and wonder why brian is calling them

Tell them not really, it's a running joke and meant to be open-ended.

Like Stewie will demand in mean-big words, etc that he wants a toy... And the mom will know what he means. But really, she hears baby talk... Not what the viewer hears. Like the garbled stuff you hear charlie brown's teacher saying.

Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy, stated that Stewie is really talking, but most of the family just ignore him...the way people generally ignore things said by very small children.

Thats what i said. I got it from the comemntary on the DVD. They said he talks and they hear exactly what he's saying (only first two seasons was it supposed to be more baby talk) but then they just ignore him like if your kid said 'You S*ck!!!!' You would say 'stop that' if it was a 2 yr old.

brian and stewie can hear eachother, they have conversations ... sang songs together (on the road to rhode island, etc.)

I second this. Brian and Stewie can def. have conservations with one another...but then again it is a DOG and a BABY talking lol...but i dont think anyone else can hear them
