All for it. Too many studies show how many health benefits the green leaf provides so heck yeah. I have a lot of issues with some popular drugs that are legal.-stepping down from the box now

i would say yes but limited legalization, for uses such as producing hemp and for medical purposes.

i think it should definitely be legalized for medical purposes. it really does help a lot of people with chronic pain issues---as well as cancer patients who are dealing with chemotherapy and are so ill and can barely eat--let alone have an appetite. smoking marijuana gives them the 'munchies' and they are able to actually eat and keep food down.

its funny though cause i think a lot of people dont realize how common it really is these days--heck more and more professionals come home and spark a doobie after a long day instead of drinking a glass of wine

*puff puff passsss*

um...not that i would like know ANYTHING about that.

Ditto. But it needs to be better regulated, not just handed out the way they do now where people can sell their dope off., I grew up in a drug infested neighborhood-heavily marijuana and generally it makes people act dopey and irresponsible. If you're so sick that you REALLY need an RX for it, chances are you're not running around town causing trouble so that's fine. No need to suffer needlessly and it is 'herbal' which I'm more for than the common medications thats eem to be handed out at the drop of a dime these days; have a headache, here's some Rx's.

HOWEVER I feel that the legalization of marijuana creates a slippery slope for other drugs. It happens all to offen with other things that are legalized that are taboo. For me its not so much the marijuana that is the issue but the fact if you allow that, the doors are flung wide open for other drugs because politicians and people voting for them are dopey, and we are overmedicated in the U.S. as it is.

Speaking of this topic. I was just reading something in our local news about this.

Marijuana Vending Machines

I think it should be legalized. If cigarettes are legal, and they are known to KILL people, marijuana should be legal as well.

The only thing is that I don't think people should be able to drive/operate machinery stoned and there would be no way to test for that. Breathalizers test the content of alcohol at that moment and it diminishes rapidly (within hours) but marijuana stays in a person's system for a long time.

Get what I am saying? Of course, I am stoned as I am writing this, so it may or may not make sense...

J/K

Maybe...

heh, I feel obliged to add my 2 cents....

I'm a drug abuse researcher (I do neuroimaging of the endocannabinoid system.... aka the neurotransmitter system pot activates).

Sure, smoking a blunt will relieve chemo-induced nausea, and may stimulate appetite... it will also give you lung cancer at the same time.

I voted 'don't care'. There are definite benefits (nausea, appetite stimulation), but marijuana activates receptors THROUGHOUT the body, causing numerous detrimental effects. Perhaps the worst of them is that the buzz a smoker gets wears off before their motor coordination recovers... so several hours later, they THINK they can drive, but they CAN'T... a huge cause of car accidents... if it was legalized, there would be even MORE.

It's also NOT a good pain reliever.... opioid-like compounds like codiene and morphine do a MUCH better job. It also has a major drug delivery problem... smoking is simply not an option. Difficult to give a consistent dose, and the other compounds in smoke cause cancer. Basically, there are very few things it can do that another (already legal) prescription drug can't do better...

ok, off the soap box.... NEXT

I voted 'I could care less' because I don't use it.. However, it concerns me because I strongly feel that pot COULD be a gateway drug for those that have addictive personalities. It happened with quite a few people I know.. It starts with pot and then moves to E.. then to coke.. Its worrysome. However, when my mom was on chemo back in the day they gave her some and she hated it.. Even though it DID get rid of the sick feeling, she couldnt handle it.

I'm torn, but I dont care.. I dont do it.. No skin off my back

well said...totally agree. first, i agree with jen with how it definetly opens up some floodgates...and i also dont think it should be legalized for all the reasons stated above...Medically I go back & forth, because yes i know some people have benifitted from it - and if they REALLY smacked down on hardcore laws that it maybe could work, but i also think that with all the medical stuff out there today that there are plenty of other options out there besides using marijuana...and options that would probably work better & be more beneficial. the world is just getting more lenient & finding more excuses to please EVERYONE...and every time we let something slide 'cause we don't think is 'that big a deal' is really all the reasons why this world is turning into such a crazy place. the world 60years ago was a MUCH safer, happier, better, more loyal place and i think its sad that it's going down the tubes.jmo.

There are actually 2 other ways to get 'high' off of marijuana, one being eaten. N ot stright, but there are ways. When I had an uncle who was going thru chemo for lung cancer, we made him brownies, cookies and pasta. These things helped thru his process and after losing one lung and beating an inoperable brain tumor, he is now a very healthy man.
I am for he legalazation, but know that if it happens, the Gov't will tax the heck ot of it and regulate it like they do cigarettes. I beleive alcohol is more harmful than 'weed' (if not smoked)
If it were legalized, you would see a reduction in jail populations across the country.
As far as a gateway drug, I don't beleive that it is. I think drinking is more harmful, to peopes bodies, and personal lives.
I have never seen a person beat his wife cause he was high off of marijuana, or sleep with her BFF cause they had smoked.
Just me but you asked and these are my thoughts.
Flame away!
