I love my new last name. When I was younger I used to beg my mom to change my last name to her maiden name because I liked it better than my maiden name.I would tell my mom that I was going to marry someone with an Italian last name because I liked them (of course that was before I knew that people married for love). When I started dating DH, (who is 100% Italian with an Italian last name) my parents knew this was it.
It was a total coincidence, but I still like it

Re: Which name do you like better?
I definitely prefer my maiden name. With time, I am sure I will like my new name. I come from a very Irish family and now I have a name from France/Spain.

Re: Which name do you like better?
I Love my Maiden Name.
I am Hyphenating it
It is my Only Link to my Real Father. My parents divroced when I was real little. And then he Passed Away right before I turned 16.
My DH gives me Grief about not fully taking his name.

Re: Which name do you like better?
I can't really say that I like either name better than the other. My maiden name was always difficult for people to pronounce and that was annoying, but it was still my name for 25 years and it's my families name so it has great meaning to me. Plus I love the history of it!!
But I love my married name, it's what bonds me to DH and his daughter so I feel like we're a real family now. I've only had it for a year but it just feels right, I'm a M____ now!!! It's much easier to pronounce although people still mess it up!!!

Re: Which name do you like better?
THis is the ONLY PLACE I feel safe to admit this....but I definitely prefer my maiden name. ANd, I still use it. I know I'll eventually start using my new name, but I just like my maiden name so much better......my new name is hard to pronounce, and everyone butchers it. I would LOVE to hyphenate....but I can't. Its way too long, sounds rediculous, and gives me the initials A.S.S.........

I like my married name better actually. I always hated the way my first and last name sounded together, so I couldnt wait to change it.

Re: Which name do you like better?
very funny question. I miss my maiden name!!! It was SO MUCH simpler and easier to sign. My married name is long and loopy, so I always screw up my signature. Oh well, I love my husband so I'll put up with the name

I could have written this!!! (except my maiden name wasn't Irish but it's very common). I totally understand how you feel!

Re: Which name do you like better?
Well I have both still --added married name to maiden name w/o a hyphen but DEFINITELY like my maiden name better (it's Italian and less common) and married name is one syllable, and more common and sounds bad with my one syllable first name--love using both together though!!!

Re: Which name do you like better?
They are pretty much the same. My maiden name is VERY similar to my new name, its pretty funny actually. People laugh when I tell them, and when you say it hyphenated its even funnier.
So I can't really say that I like one more than the other, although people don't mess up my new last name as much.

Re: Which name do you like better?
Although I do like my new name, I identify so much of myself with my maiden name. There are so many quirks and eccentricities associated with that name and it kinda stinks loosing it.
Plus my entire teaching career I have been Ms. B******* and students 'coming up' the knew who I was etc. Now I feel like I have to 'start' my rep all over again with my new name.
