My maiden name was very common and very ethnic, and frankly, I was kind of happy to get rid of it. But at least people could pronounce it! Recently more and more people are butchering my new last name - and it's not even that difficult. Either that or they mistake it for my first name over email - I've been getting lots of messages saying Dear Lynn (which is close to my last name)
It's getting alittle frustrating!

Re: Your new last name.....Blessing or a curse?
My 'new' last name is actually pretty easy to say if people just look at it. It sounds exactly as it looks. They forget to say the second 'N' so it just comes out all wrong.
Since I was constantly spelling my maiden name, there's nothing different for me in spelling my married name. I'm resigned to the fact that I'll forever be spelling!

Well I added DH's last name to my last name so I have both...so far it's been pretty good using both or just my maiden but getting confusing lately since people don't know where to file me alphabetically!! So overall it's been good, best of both worlds!

Re: Your new last name.....Blessing or a curse?
for me it's a little of each.
my maiden name was not common at all, and most people spelt it wrong. Or pronounced it incorrectly. But I liked that it was unique...to an extent.
With my married name, it's so common, so I find that to be a little more 'private'. Like, if someone searched for me with my new last name, there are a lot of people out there with that name, so they won't be able to find me ;) But it is annoying to write out because there's a lot of n's and l's and I can't really get a good 'signature' out of all that mess

Re: Your new last name.....Blessing or a curse?
I feel like my new last names sounds funny when I say it (although I pronounce it correctly) so I spell it a lot (even though again, it's not a difficult name).
My maiden name seemed sooooooo easy to me but people often spelled & always pronounced it wrong ...

I miss my old name, even though it was really common.
My new name happens to be a semi-famous one, so people are always asking me if we're related (we don't think we are).
Last night though someone couldn't spell it, and didn't even know who I was talking about when I said 'It's like Alan G.'

Definitely a blessing! Don't get me wrong, I loved my maiden name, but my married name is a lot easier for people to pronounce and spell.

A blessing
I lost 5 letters and 2 syllables. My maiden name was common but pronounced incorrectly. My DHs last name is easier to say and I love signing it.

I like mine. It is short, but hard to spell. Everyone misspells it, so I always have to spell it out. But I had to do that with my madden name too, so its no big deal.

My new last name is a blessing because it's shorter and you pretty much can't mispronounce it. But my maiden name was more ethnic and I miss that a little.

same here, although my husband's last name is polish as well, it is much easier to spell and pronounce (10 vs 5 letters lol)

Re: Your new last name.....Blessing or a curse?
I'm not a fan of either actually.
My maiden name was easy to pronounce, but people would always think I was a differnt ethnicity than I was because of it. That was fine, but after explaining & people ignoring me, it got a little annoying.
DH's name is the same thing. His family is Belgian, not French, and soemtiems it is liek peopel don't beleive me. And the spelling has been butchered over the years, so now no one really knows how to pronouce it (including DH).

I like my maiden name better, but I did take his name. His name is very common, and mine was kind of unique.

Did I write this? Ditto on all points...I now have the same last name as about every other Spanish person in the world. My maiden name is very rare.

My new last name is very long and Italian which is fine but people often butcher it. Its not that hard if you just take a second to actually read the letters though.
My maiden name is very short and often mispronounced as well but I liked it. It was also a source of comedy which made me stand out.

I went from italian last name to Italian last name, so it wasn't that big of a deal.

My new last name sounds like a children's nursery rhyme... B - I - N - G - O, but with an M!!!
