Thats great CW. We didn't have a e-party. Instead my parents are taking care of a few things like the band, photographer and the video. We figured the amount of money we will put it to the party we may not get back so economically this was the beast things for us

TestaRossa... I can relate!!! But try not to take it out on your cousin, I am sure that she wasn't trying to steal your thunder! My best friend is getting engaged AFTER me, (the ring is coming any day now we hear LOL) and she is planning a wedding a year before me, (almost exactly a year before me). I am jealous a little because now her planning has to have priority over mine, but I am also so excited for her, because she is my best friend, and has found a fabulous man to share her life with. She is doing much fancier wedding style than I am (more money to work with) so that makes it a little hard to, but I am actually really happy with the way I am doing things, and I think my wedding will be a lot of fun. Plus I have a guaranteed friend who won't get sick of wedding talk for a while!!!!

P.S. I think she is a lurker on these boards, so if she is reading this, HI!!!!!!!

I would have preferred to nix the eparty. Especially since it has given me stress... Since we have a pretty big family on both sides we had to hold something for everyone to meet. I don't want family meeting for the first time at our rehearsal dinner or wedding. Once the date is booked, I will have such a load off my shoulders...

Wanda, we are just going to do a brunch in February (when my mom has off from school and can come up to NY). That way the immediate families can all meet and get to know each other. We are not having a big bash though, just a nice 25-30 person brunch.

Hopefully people wont feel obliged to bring gifts, being so close to the holidays. We really just want to do it to get everyone to meet.

For my side there cannot be a party or event without dancing! So a brunch or dinner party would not work. We have accounted for 90 people so far. My mom is against having it at my house so we had to look elsewhere. Finding a reasonable place was my main problem. Since Coral House gave us a good deal, I couldn't pass it up. We just have to figure out the date-which I would like it to be Good Friday.

We did not have a e party, we sent out announcements, that way it was up to the person if they wanted to give a gift. We ended up getting a lot of gifts for our engagment , and we are still getting them. (We got engaged almost 10 months ago) . Some of my immediate family had us over for dinner and gave us a cake and a bunch of e gifts. Since we are paying for everything ourselves, we wanted to save the $$$ to go towards the wedding reception, etc.
I am all for a gtg, I will be away President's week on a cruise... one last hurrah before the craziness begins with the wedding and all. I will report back on the cruise... brand new cruise ship to the Western Carribbean.
Happy Friday to all, it seemed like the longest week, I am so happy I only have to work until noon on Tuesday and then I am off until after New Years- it just worked out that way.

I wish we were having an engagement party, but we figured it could cost us alot of $$$. Instead we sent out engagement announcements. I know some people think it is tacky, but what the heck, we did it anyhow. They were actually really nice, we had them made up at an invitation place, and they were probably meant to be wedding invitations. They had a heart border in gold and were beige. We had them printed with our parents names introducing our engagement in black ink with a calligraphied font. I had one framed which is hanging on my wall!

Jess I don't think what you did is tacky at all. Its what you can afford and are happy with doing. I am against etiquette stuff. Who is to tell me what I should and shouldn't be doing for MY wedding?!?!?!??! Unless you are coughing up $$ then you have an opinion.
Greedy bastid that I am, always wants more so this is why we are saving our change to have the wedding of our dreams. Plus no dinners out, no lunches out... This just makes it easier for both sides of the families-meet everyone in one big swoop.

Jess - I don't think its tacky either. I agree with CW - It's your day and your wedding and you should do what you want. People will always have something to say regardless. As long as you and your FI are happy with what you decide that is all that matters.

As for the Good Friday I would have no problem going to a party either. But like Lisa, I probably wouldn't eat meat. But that wouldn't stop me from going. If they gave you a good deal, go for it!

Thanks Marcela. It looks like we are booking CH today. I am getting that nervous feeling again.. I have to sign something wedding related and I get nervous and sweaty. Don't know why but it doesn't stop!

Ok, going for some preliminary dress shopping today!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited to see myself in a wedding dress, I think it is going to make it seem so real!
