so i went to the fitting....and well i'm not happy. the dress shop assured me they had a bra that i could purchase for my gown. so i went to the fitting with my bridal shoes, as they had my slip & gown. well turns out the bra they gave me does NOT work with my dress. so when i put the dress on, i looked absolutely terrible!
the top part of the gown is all pooched out cause of the bra, and is really big on me. so big, that i really don't know how they are going to pin/alter it enough so that it doesn't stick out when i do get the right type of bra. the back is WAY lower than i thought it was, so i'm a little weirded out about that, cause i'm not a fan of my back and now it's gonna be allll out there. hopefully my veil and hair will cover my back fat!
the gown itself, is beautiful, and the length only needs to be taken up a little...but the sweetheart neckline and sides are too big, and it made me feel so fat. the jury is still out on whether or not my arms looks gigantic in it or not. i just couldn't get a feel for it because of the lack of proper bra.
to make it allll worse, they couldn't do a THING for my fitting, and now my REAL first fitting will be scheduled Jan. 9th!!!!! barely 6 weeks before my wedding!! i'm really upset about my dress and how i'll look in it, i hate having this total insecurity moment, but i just didn't feel gorgeous in it, and i'm hoping that it will get altered correctly in time.
sorry for the long vent. i'm just really sad. i took some pics, but my mom is retarded and can't figure out shiit with a camera. not sure if i should post what i have. i'm almost embarassed to show the pics i feel like a damn cow.
UPDATE: sorry...deleted all the pics so that any 'lurkers' that might know me won't show the pics off to my FH!

I agree that we are our own harshest critics.
I know I have always had an awkward shape, and never looked good in things... I didn't have that WOW feeling when picking out my bridal gown and a lot of times I get VERY upset when trying on dresses at stores.
So, I know how you feel!
I hope it looks better in January!

Mel, I feel your pain I hated my dress when I put it on and ended up ordering a new dress myself.
I am not saying that you will have to go to this extreme and I am sure that once you have the correct bra, etc.. you will feel more comfortable in it, but I know how it feels to be that disappointed.
If you hate it that much, I would go back and talk to them about what they can possible do to the dress to make you more comfortable in it. You have to feel like a princess that day and you deserve to feel that way

Trust me.....seamstresses are miracle workers. It's amazing what they can do w/ a little needle and thread. Once you get the proper bra, they will begin working their magic. It ***** that your first fitting was a disappointing experience. But when you go back, armed w/ the proper undergarments, you will be golden.

I never understood why those dress shops order dresses so friggen big anyway.

The dress is big.. that is a good thing... most brides want there dress to be big on their first fitting....
Once they start altering your dress to fit your body perfectly it is going to be stunning.. The important thing is that you still LOVE the dress.... you are going to look beautiful!

I am so sorry that you are feeling down... To let you know, my SIL had her first fitting one week before her wedding and she thought everything was going to be terrible, but it all worked out. I am sure if they can have a dress in one week, you will be fine.. Hope you feel better

We're our own worst critics. Trust me. I had a few of my LIW girls come with me to my first fitting, and not for nothing at 5'11 and 140lbs, after they took pictures, I felt that my FACE looked all swollen and just fat and ugly!!!! Not for nothing...it goes both ways. But your gorgeous, and you were VERY excited about your fitting. Speak with the salon, and make sure they alter the dress to your taste. Your such a beautfiul person, inside and out, not to mention hysterical. Keep your chin up. My hope for you is that, everything works out in your favor

Im sure that the seamstress willdo a proper job and make the dress what it is suposed to be. I have seen so many girls on this site tha have not been happy with their fist fitting and in the long run they were sooo happy with the outcome. stay positive and hopefully thngs will work out. My Mom is a seamstress and it really is amazing the work that they can do, they can transform a dress right before your eyes and leave you amazed. Pick up a good bra and then you will be ready for your fitting, I think 6 weeks before is enough time to do the alterations.....don't be too hard on yourself....it will all work out in the end.

Sorry your fitting didn't go well. Might I suggest going to Blum's in Patchogue for the proper bra. I have always been able to find the right one there. It is a little freaky because the ladies there can usually look at you an tell you what size you are and it can be a little expensive but well worth the money. Once you have the right bra you will look perfect in your dress. Always remember its better to have the dress too big then too small. They can take it apart, take out the extra material and put it back together. My sister had her dress completely resewed (not sure if its a word) because it came in way too big. so remember you are marrying your man and let everything else fade into the background.

Is that your first fitting pics in your album? The dress is gorgeous on you and flatters you very much. Once you have the right bra it will make a world of difference. Don't worry! They will get it right, it will fit like a glove and you'll be a beautiful bride!

Aww sweetie please don't stress out (I know easy for me to say). I am SURE with the proper adjustments and undergarments it is going to fit and look perfectly. I gaurantee you that most of us are going to go through this during our first fittings, regardless of size. I know you are going to be a beautiful bride

We all want to look perfect on that day no matter what size we are. I am very sensitive about wearing my arms out but you reallt cant fine pretty gowns with sleeves so I am just going to have work on them for the next 9 months but keep looking you will find something you like.
