2010 stories

A few of us mentioned liking the idea of 'best proposal' so I figured why not start a thread... (not sure if there was one already) where we can all tell our stories so we have something to go on.

Sure.....I'll start


During an intense game of Rock Band, FH asked when we were exchanging Christmas gifts and told me mine was under the tree. It was a beautiful hand-crafted Disney centerpiece with Mickey Mouse and Pluto riding a sleigh. Now, a little backstory. We had recently moved into our new house, and we were using a spare bedroom for storage. A friend of ours had spent the night the day before, so while I was at work, FH cleared out the bedroom so we could accomodate our friend. Little did he know, his Christmas gift was in a box in that bedroom's closet. When I went to get FH's gift out of the closet, I noticed he had piled all of boxes that were being stored in the bedroom on top of the box with his gift in the closet!. I asked him to help me move the boxes, and as he put one of the boxes down, it had a ring box on it. I stopped in my tracks, saw the box, and said 'What's that???' FH told me it was nothing. I responded with 'No seriously, what is it.' He told me to open it myself and find out.

I opened it and immediately said 'Are you serious???' FH said no and took it back. He took the ring out of the box, and began to put it on my finger, but I noticed he was putting it on my right hand! I quickly corrected him, and after he put the ring on the correct finger, I started hugging and kissing him. It was then that he suddenly said 'So you haven't answered me.' My response was 'You haven't asked me anything.' He looked me dead in the eye and said....
'So, you wanna?'

tell the story of our proposal? sure, i love reading these stories! ok here it goes:
Last summer I went on a trip to Ohio to meet Fh's family for the first time. We had been together for a while and he lived with me in New York so it was time to meet his fam. We had such a great time and then a day before my birthday Fh told me that we were going on a historical tour of an old famous mansion called Blennerhassat (spelling eek) Mansion located on Blennerhassat Island. It's a little island in the middle of the Ohio river and they have this romantic tour there. He, his sister, his mother and I went on the ferry ride over to the island. It was so fun we rode on a horse and carriage ride around the island and toured the whole mansion. During the tour of the mansion a HUGE thunderstorm began and we had to wait in the mansion until it passed because the ferry wouldn't travel in that kind of weather. Fh asked me to go outside under the covered walkway to take a picture. I was soo hesitant because it was raining and I didn't want to get wet and then he pulled me out. His sister took the camera (she and his mother were in on the plan) and we stood outside. He then got down on one knee and held out the box and proposed. All of the people on the tour were sooo excited and everyone was taking pictures of us. It was very romantic in the rain and at this beautiful and historic mansion. I wouldn't have had it any other way!

It was the day before Halloween and I was suppose to go and work at my second job the Halloween Store, but I decided not to go, so I called FH to let him know and that he could come over to hang out if he wanted to.

When he came over, he walked in and handed me a pumpkin. He lifted the lid off of the pumpkin and it was filled with orange and white M&M's. On the M&M's they were printed with Teri..... Will you Marry Me???? and the ring box was buried insied with the bow peeking out a little

I said yes of course

It was the day before Halloween and I was suppose to go and work at my second job the Halloween Store, but I decided not to go, so I called FH to let him know and that he could come over to hang out if he wanted to.

When he came over, he walked in and handed me a pumpkin. He lifted the lid off of the pumpkin and it was filled with orange and white M&M's. On the M&M's they were printed with Teri..... Will you Marry Me???? and the ring box was buried insied with the bow peeking out a little

I would tell mine but its SOOOO long and to get the ful effect you cant cut it down.....

last labor day week we had both taken a week off for vacation and were planning to just do local trips...like boston for a few days and some other stuff.

like 3 days before, I was like 'let's see if there are any cheap last minute deals to an island so we can lay on the beach'...well that night we bokoed a trip to Mexico and were leaving 2 days later! Fh had already bought my diamond (i didnt know this) and had seen the setting he liked but hadn't gotten it yet. After we booked the trip he rushed to the store with the setting gave them the diamond and was like you have to set this right now bc I need it for our trip....(he said he didnt plan to propose in boston or whatever...but when we booked the trip to Mexico it was perfect!)

our first night in Mexico we went to dinner with another couple we met at the hotel that day. After dinner they were talking about meeting later to go to clubs. FH was like eh I dont wanna go out...lets take a walk on the beach. So we walked along the beach and all of a sudden FH started saying these sweet things and his voice got nervous...then he got down on his knee and popped the question. I was so surprised!!!!!!!!

It was so dark I couldnt really see what the ring looked like just that it was sparkling like crazy---after a few minutes of hugging/kissing...im like 'can we go in now so i can see the ring!'

Fun topic...

We had gone ice skating at Wollman rink in Central Park. So, at like 3:30, they asked everyone on the ice to get off so they can clean it...Well, FH was really taking his sweet time and I was wondering why...Then he directed me towards the middle of the rink, which now had a circle coned off- he slid down on one knee and the song 'All my life' by K-Ci & Jo-Jo came on and he asked me to marry him...

It was Friday May 30th 2008 and I am the worst day at work (I'm a kindergarten teacher). It was one of the hottest days in May and my kids were being soooooooo bad. I had to get the kids yearbooks ready by that Monday so I was rushing the entire day for the class to finish the pages in their yearbook( they wrote about their favorite memory, friend, teacher etc...).

When I got home I thought it would be nice to surprise Mike with chinese food when he got to my house. So I knew that he would be by my house by 7 pm. I went ordered his favorite combo, set the table and waited.. NOTHING!! no call no nothing!!!

Soooooooo I decided to call at 8pm. His response was 'ohhhh I didn't leave home yet' ( he lives in BK I live in SI and with traffic I knew it would take another 1/2 hr to get to my house). So now I put all the Chinese food away to keep warm. At 8:30 I call again like a lunatic wanting to know where he was. He said stuck in traffic.. ( Obviously I wasn't happy waiting from 7 to eat LOL) So at 8:50 I re set the table warmed all the food and got ready because I knew he would be there any second. The door bell rang and he came in the house said a quick hello to me and made a b-line straight for my room and goes on the computer!! I was FUMING...

So I sat down and ate dinner by myself. After dinner we went downstairs to play Wii Fit ( this was the weekend when it came out). He kept saying I don't want to play lets watch Indiana Jones and I was like WHAT?!?! are you kidding me no way! So he tried to get me to sit a few times he even went as far as shutting the game off on me twice which was a big no no because I got even madder and continued to play.

Then he finally got pissed off pushed me down to sit on the couch put his laptop on my lap and said were watching Indiana Jones. I continued saying I'm not watching this, and I kept going on and on complaining...
Next thing i know I see 2004 appear on the screen and my face came across the screen... in my head I said this isn't Indiana Jones!


Mike is great with computers. He made me a dvd movie for the proposal. The movie was about our life together from 2004 when we began going out until now. He captured every funny, crazy and happy moment that has happened over the past 5 years. At the end of the movie the word 'THE FUTURE' came across on the screen. It stayed on the screen for about 4 seconds. Then my ring appeared on the screen. This is when he got down on his knee and asked me to marry him!



That's my crazy engagement story LOL

It was a Friday afternoon when Fh called me at work and was talking really casually and said, 'so you have a date tonight, right?' so, I thought it was strange he was saying it like that, so I said, well yeah, like a date with the girls. I had plans to hang out with some girls from work at one of their houses. So FH says, 'no with me, you have a date.' So he works on Friday nights until 9 always, so im like umm no, did I forget our plans or something. So hes like no, I took off, lets go to our restaurant. So im like I feel bad cancelling on the girls but since you already took off of work, ok. So I came home, he picked me up and we went off to our restaurant, the place where we had our first date and some very good memories. As we were in the car, I was talking about how we never get our booth (the one where we sat for our first date). So, we go in, and the girl seats us at our booth! We get each other a look, like hey, look at that. So we were eating and Fh was telling me eat up, lets order a lot of food and dessert and wine and cocktails, lol. Im like, ok ok, lol! So he was drinking a little more than usual but I didnt really think anything of it. While we were eating, I starting getting a little tipsy and thought to myself, I shouldnt say this but im going to. So I go like in a joking way but not really, 'so you gonna marry me or what!'. And he just winked at me. So then we order dessert, and as the waiter came over to take the dessert plate away, he puts another dessert down. Im like aww, thanks (I thought it was complimentary or something since they know us there). So Im looking at it, and theres like a doily (sp?) and something that looks like a box made out of chocolate. I go to reach for it saying, thats so cute...and he reaches for it, gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him!!!!!!! I never knew the meaning of speechless until that moment. I said yes and couldnt say anything else for like 5 or 10 minutes afterwards. I started crying and he goes, so can I have your hand, lol. Im like oh yeah! I totally forgot we were in a restaurant...I looked up and everyone was staring and clapping for us!!!! It was the best moment of my life. he said he thought about asking for our booth but then decided to let things happen how they shouldve and look at that, they did! He said he was so nervous. When he went to the bathroom, he told them what he was gonna do and they all starting cheering and he was like SHUSHHHH!

I work for an accountant and tax season is my hell season so I was totally unaware of anything as I work 15 hours a day 7 days a week.

I was sleeping and FH was making so much noise in the room I was going to kill him. But then he was kneeling next to the bed telling me how much he loves me and etc… I was like yeah yeah I love you too trying to hurry him up so I can go back to sleep lol. He then gave me a present it was a wooden heart so I said thank you then he told me to read it he put the light on and he had written on it will you marry me as I read it he pulled out this beautiful sparkly ring

Fh and I 'met' at the St. Gregs fair the summer going into senior year of high school...

...when we started talking about getting married we thought about getting married at St. Gregs church (since thats where we met) and decided that we should go to mass there and see how we liked the church...

....a few weeks later, we were running our saturday morning errands and we were about to pass the church. He suggested ,since we were right there, to stop and check it out. As we walked he started reminiscing about how we started and then said he had a surprise for me....he took out the ring and i just started balling and hugging him....i was sooooo surprised and sooo happy that he did it in a way that I would least expect it bc at the time we were together for 8 yrs

Fun topic...

So sweet!

Matt and I were on a cruise last decmeber and we were having the WORST time. The weather was bad, the water was rocky and by day 2 a virus had swept the ship. Luckily we both didn't catch the virus but family (FBIL) did.

Well it was day 3 and we were at sea that day heading towards St.Marteen. It was the first beautiful day. I woke up early as I always do and went to the lido deck to lay out and hold chairs for our group. Matt was M*I*A for most of the morning and I was beginning to get annoyed. I was hanging with some girlfriends by the pool but thought Matt was spending the first nice day we had in the casino. I wasn't happy. So I went to look for him and couldn't find him.

At about 1:00 in the afternoon the pool games were about to being. Before hand the activity director called me to the stage. Mind you this is infront of about 2000 Cruise go'ers and on the JUMBOTRON screen. He asked me who I was traveling with, I said my boyfriend, he asked if I loved him, I said yes, he said how much, I said very much. He said alright then, Matt where are you? Well Matt walked up to the stage and without hesitation said 'Shauna, I just love you so much and want to spend my life with you. (got down on 1 knee and said) Will you marry me?'... I was CRYING my eyes out! and of course said YES!

He then thought I was to actually take the ring out of the box myself and put it on while he was still on one knee. I said 'GET UP AND KISS ME' He yelled 'TAKE THE RING'. So he did and the DJ cued up 'I Got You Babe' and we hugged and cried and the entire boat cheered!!! Stranger's were hugging us and crying it was the most perfect proposal I could have imagined.

So all morning while I was annoyed that he was missing, he was actually arranging the whole thing, with the activity department, and the film crew. He had the entire thing filmed and we have it on DVD to watch and one day show our kids. Needless to say I was no long annoyed about the morning.
