Thought I would make a thread just for us ... even if we are few and far between! Our 2010 brides will soon start getting married! Anyone going to any of their set ups? Im actually going to one in May if I am not mistaken to see what our venue will look like on our wedding day

Out of curiosity, I looked at the de Seversky website--which I shoulnd't have done, because the place really looks amazing for a wedding!! My FH graduated from NYIT and years ago we briefly discussed how cool it would be to get married there. I love my RH but I kinda wish I looked into de Seversky too! AHHHHH!
De Seversky is the only place we looked at after we did tons of research but sometimes I wish I had looked more just for the experience and to be extra confident in my choice.
oh wellll...
Me too. Well, I looked at one other RH because I had already made the appointment.
But I can rest assure that I probably wouldn't have gotten the same reaction as I did for de Seversky.
I can't wait to get married!!
AHHHHH!!!!
It's going to be GORGEOUS!!!

Just went to see De Seversky yesterday and fell in love! We are looking at October 2011 or May 2012. Has anyone had an October wedding there? We are worried it will be too cold for an outdoor ceremony but it's so beautiful to have your ceremony outside.
We have about 230 people most likely, so we are considering European or Mansion style. Really torn. What is everyone else doing and any reasons why you chose? Would appreciate any help or recommendations! I can't wait to book!

We're doing European style where we have dinner in the ballroom and dancing in the garden room.
I really wanted to take advantage of the fact that the mansion is 'ours' for the day/night and use up all the space.
FH also liked the idea that people who want to dance will be in the glass room partying and the older people can chat and have dessert and coffee in the adjoining dining room. while still be able to watch the action since the walls are glass.
I also really liked the idea of dancing under the stars

I love that setup too. How many people are you having? I wonder if that's an option for us too. Did you have any luck with negotiating or did they throw in any additions complimentary? We are just starting the process! So excited!

Re: 2011 De Seversky Brides
I booked the minimum for a sunday (100 people) but may get up to 120 depending on a few factors. Really don't want to go past that though.
Book low! You can always add more people towards the day but it's harder to lower what you already signed up for in my opinion.
That is UNLESS they will give you a great price for booking such a large group. I am curious though about the space issue. Did they tell you how mnay people fit in the ballroom for a seated dinner?
To be honest, the only way of getting them to lower the price was if we booked a wedding less than 8 months away. Their prices don't fluctuate depending on the time of year either so if you are looking to book OCT 11 to save money, that might not happen unless you wait to book in a few months whatever date they have free in oct if that makes any sense...

Definitely makes sense. They didnt really budge on any prices yet besides the fact that we get a discount because my future father in law is an alumni. That was pretty exciting to find out!
She told us we'd have to do dancing in the ballroom and dinner in the garden room/the room attached to that. I like the reverse (how you are doing it) but I dont think the space will allow for the # of people we have. If you had to choose between late October or waiting until the following May, what would you do? I'm so stuck on that decision too!

Hey Joyana,
I am just reading your post now. I actually just moved to Alexandria, VA last month to be closer to my job. What a small world!!
You sound like you are doing amazing with your planning! I still need to book a band and find a dress...EEK!

Re: 2011 De Seversky Brides
Hello all!
For those of you doing European style---are you having the dancing in the ballroom or garden room?
And is anyone having a band in the garden room? And what's your guest count like?
I have considered dancing in both the ballroom and the garden room. My concern is having a band in the garden room and the bulk of the time would be spent in the garden room rather than the gorgeous ballroom. My mom really likes the idea of having the dancing in the garden room so that there will be two separate areas for guests (so that they ones not dancing can still talk)....However my dad thinks the dancing is going to be difficult on the concrete floor!
Thoughts????

Re: 2011 De Seversky Brides
Hi De Seversky Bride ... and twin weekend! We are having traditional and we were willing to cut our guest list to do so. We really wanted dinner and dancing in the same room and struggled with the concept of ppl going to the other room.
With that being said while we felt that the De Seversky is so regal and calls for a band, the reality is we couldnt fit the piece band we wanted in that room. There was just no way without it feeling cramped with our high number (150 max for the ballroom to include a dance floor).
So I know that isnt much help but ... it will be beautiful no matter what! I would just ensure if you do the dancing part in the garden room to have some decor in there. But HOW beautiful to dance under the stars?!?!
Im working on flowers and cake right now with SO much more to do?!?!

Re: 2011 De Seversky Brides
Just saw this thread and I'm a de Seversky bride in 60 days! We only had 4 months from seeing it to wedding so I got a great deal since it was unbooked and it's winter. We're doing Sunday afternoon, cocktails, 3 course sit down luncheon. I guaranteed 50 but we doubled that and got 'bumped' up to the ballroom. WOO HOO! Melissa is a delight to work with. I don't care for Eric

Re: 2011 De Seversky Brides
What about Fox Hollow for overnight? The woman at the Andrew was very niece but it's on top of the LIRR and there were some unfavorable reviews.
I'm getting close! Was supposed to do the menu today but FFIL had a stroke yesterday so we canceled for next week.

We originally did our block at the Hampton Inn, but then priced the Vianna and they gave us an amazing rate so we are now booked there.

Sorry, another question -
Did any of these hotels offer shuttle service or did you go through your limo company?

Hyatt does not have their own shuttle service. You would have to do that through your limo company.

Re: 2011 De Seversky Brides
Hey ladies,
Are you including a map in your invitations? Direction card?
It's so annoying since De Seversky doesn't have an actual address...
