Hello, I just saw a Leonard's of Greatneck Thread but it has a lot of older posts on it (not that I mind, I love to read any post on Leonard's ) I know someone else had a more recent post with up to date posted wedding dates but I can't seem to find it, so.... I decided to start a new one. I will start it off

Thanks for the info. I am going for my walk through on June 22nd I believe. I am not too conerned with the cake either since I am also having a vh but now i am just curious as to what they look like.
The free one is butter cream.. I just wasnt crazy about the designs on it. I also told hom that I didnt want the columns, or the swan decorations on it. I told him just to stack the circles and use the simpl design. They charged extra for square stacked. So round it was for me.
Smara that is exactly what I told them to do with my cake.

Hello all, I went to meet with Ian yesterday also, it went really well and smoothly. He was a very friendly person. As for the cakes, I did not care for any of them, so I showed him a pic of something I found online, in which he will show the bakers to see if they can do it and also the pricing. They did not have as many cake choice selections as I would have thought, but we decided on one. I will let everyone know how much the cake is going to cost to upgrade. Hmm other than that, be careful, because there are soooo many wonderful upgrades. We did a few more xtras, BUT I am still undecided about whether or not to add the viennise hour. We decided on the parisian dessert platters instead.
If any of you have any advice on whether we should upgrade or not, please let me know. Ohh one other question, we had to pay extra to have 3 votive candles on the dinner tables and 1 on the cocktail hour tables? has anyone ever requested more??? I forgot to ask, Thanks..
By the way, i will be attending a wedding there this saturday, so i will take lots of pics, and let you all know how it went! Hope everyones planning is going well!

I think if you have candles, you have to get the votives through them. I had called a few months back and that's what they told me (since I had asked because my florist was going to provide them for me). I am going to call again to double check to see if this is our only option. I was so consumed by the food part of it, that I really did not think twice about the candles .

hmm.. well that is good to know then, I am going to give them a call tomorrow to see what the deal is. 1st it was the mystery of the cake now it's this
Maybe for the votive placecards it is different?? I don't know.

Ian called me on July 1st to schedule the appointment to go over everything, from what I know it is done 3 months (12 weeks before the wedding). So I am sure you will be getting a call soon or at the beginning of august.

yey for you!! I can't believe that we are at the 3 month mark and there is still A LOT to do! At the moment we just ordered out invitations last week and also we met with the florist again. Now we are onto favors, music choices and just a few of the little things. My veil came in last week, I am waiting for my gown and bridesmaids dresses to come in next month. I can't believe it! The time is just flying by!! Good luck with the rest of the planning and have fun! A year goes by sooooo quickly!!

You can buy your candles from the outside. I bought 100 pillars from Michaels and left them instructions on how to set everything up

Iffy issues? Does anyone get the impression that there are too many “up in the air” issues with Leonard’s-ie- cakes, votive candles, tipping, banquet managers, liability insurance etc.. I keep hearing different things from different people about their policies. And I’m not talking about the people on these boards- I mean within the company. I’m far from a stickler but I just want things to be right. I’m just a wee bit nervous.

Just stick with your banquet manager and you'll be fine. The cakes have been the same cake choices since I was planning back in 2002. I had my florist do my votives and no one said anything about it. Leonard's could do them, but they wanted more money than Laurie, so I had Laurie do them. Tipping is up to you. No one at Leonard's even gave me a figure. They just said that the Maitre D typically gets a tip from the host at the end of the night. Also, the liability insurance has always been required. This is not only for Leonards' protection, but also yours. If your vendor is not insured and injures someone at your wedding, you could be held responsible. (either way, you could be held responsible, but if they have insurance, it's a lot less likely that anything would happen to you)
