I don't think it's tacky to do either 9/10 or 9/11, although (as you've seen in the comments above) people will differ in how they feel about the day. You could say something about how, on the ten-year anniversary of 9/11, you're reclaiming a day of hatred and replacing it with a day of love.

Like Soon2BMrsJoeBear said, people get married on D-Day and Pearl Harbor Day. London had a subway bombing terror attack on 7/7/05, but that didn't stop a heck of a lot of people from getting married on 7/7/07.

Do you have a lot of non-New Yorkers? They're generally less affected by 9/11.

this is exactly how my friend that got married this year on 9/11 looked at it... how many peopel get married on d day... etc... and he was replacing his memories of 9/11/01 with memories of his wedding on 9/11/10.

thats just to add to my prior post and confuse you even more lol

I don't think it's bad, but I agree with a lot of the other ladies--your big day would be associated with such a tragedy...

I don't think it's bad and I would never decline a wedding on that day. In fact, I would like to spend that day being part of a joyful occasion.

However, I personally couldn't have my wedding anniversary be that day. I just have such strong, traumatizing memories and I don't want that to conflict with my wedding day.

i don't think it's tacky at all... I'm sure people get married on D-Day, Pearl Harbor day (12/7) and Memorial Day...

I completely agree with this statement!
I think the only thing with these other dates you mentioned is that they all happened so long ago, and not in our conscious memories, so especially for Memorial Day, because its now considered a Holiday weekend - its become a popular wedding weekend because of it.

I don't think, just like us, that many people, in that era, were planning their wedding or getting married on these days either.

With that said, I wouldn't get married on this date, or any of the other days listed just because of their significance. But who knows, maybe 50 years from now, our grandchildren will get married on September 11 becaus it will have been made a national holiday and will become another 'holiday weekend'

It's a tough call. I probably might not do it personally. BUT if I was invited to a wedding on that date; I’d go with out a question and still have as great of a time as any other day because it wouldn’t necessarily be on my mind during the reception.

It's a Sunday next year; and w/the sadness that surrounds that day you might get a lot of people that aren't interested in booking it and that might = a really good price for you.

I just know this past 9/11; I got up and went to work (on a Saturday) and the only real remembrance I felt was when they were reading the names at the site. Maybe because none of my family is FDNY/NYPD I left for work and there was hardly any talk about it at work. Just as busy as any other day.

So yea; after all of that; if I was getting a good price and a place I maybe couldn’t afford another day. I’d do it.

i dont think its tacky

i just wouldn't want my wedding day to be associated with such a horrible day in history

it depends on how you feel about it...are you OK with your wedding being remembered year after year, that the twin towers were attacked that day? I couldn't deal

that said....if it doesnt bother you, you will prob get a great deal lots of places mentioned it as a discounted day when we went looking, especially the lessings places

Same...don't think its tacky but I couldn't even book my wedding for September 2011 since the idea of having 9/11 in my wedding date just made me uneasy.

Also, people that may have been affected directly might prefer not to celebrate this day by attending a wedding.

good question. I lost someone in the tower and i have a brother and sister overseas fighting in the war I presented this question to them. My brother whos is a iraq vet and still a marine said he doesnt see the problem with it. Life goes on. how many people have wedding on memorial day while guys are still losing their lives. Life doest stop and if we let it they have won and dont even know it. I dont think its tacky it depends on how you feel and he made a good point

Tacky is not the right way to describe it, I don't think. I just would not want to say 'I got married on 9/11'.

Don't have a date or a place - but 9/11 obviously is open everywhere....It is also cheaper for a lot of things.....It's 10 year anniversary...Is it terrible to get married on this date?

I did not read all the posts on here so someone might have already said this---- but i think 1. if it is your dream place and that is the only date you can have, etc etc then go for it. who knows---- 10 years from now something else can happen on a date someone else has there bday/anni there is nothing you can do.

I do not think you should just ignore it tho on that day--- maybe as a favor have a donation to FDNY or NYPD 9/11 fund. etc etc

In addition i think it depends on who is coming to your wedding and if they lost anyone or were effected by it. if that is the case i would prob not doing that.

I did think about choosing that date but did not feel it was the right decision for me.
