I personally wouldn't consider having a wedding on 9/11 in the near future probably because I live in NYC and many of our guests lost someone that day. However, I went to a wedding outside of Boston this past 9/11, and although we watched the coverage in the morning on tv, it didn't put a damper on the day at all.
I think it totally depends on your guests and how you feel about the day in general.

Re: 9/11 wedding date?
my original wedding date was 910/05, so the day before and when we booked we didnt realize it until we walked out. At first some people were like oh no, but after a while I had met so many people who married on that day and 9/11, prior to '9/11' . i think you do what you want and who is going to come will come no matter what day it is. Its your choice and your day, do what makes you comfortable.

Re: 9/11 wedding date?
We had our engagement party this year on 9/11. I was VERY reluctant at first, but circumstances in our lives made this the best day to do it. Anyway, many of my family members are firefighters and EMS workers who were either there that day and/or lost many friends and co-workers. I asked everyone about it beforehand, for approval of sorts, and I was unanimously told that celebrating such a wonderful event on the anniversary of something so devastating was not only ok, but a good thing. We had a memorial candle lit all day that had a sign by it saying 'Never Forget' and when FH and I got up to make a speech, we made mention of those lost and how much we appreciated everyone coming out to support us. We were met with overwheleming support and everyone said how wonderful it was to finally have some new, good memories to attach to the day, while NEVER forgetting what happened.
I agree with everyone else, in that you have to do what you feel is best in your heart. But I thought, even though it was an e-party and not a wedding, that you might like to hear from someone who had a positive wedding related experience on that day.
Best of luck making your decision!

Re: 9/11 wedding date?
Here's an example of two different opinions:
My MOH's DH was in the towers that day and I will never forget her panic and agony that morning and the hours after. Fortunately her husband made it out safely (barely) but he lost many friends on 9/11.
I had MOH help me in setting up appointments to see halls. Many BMs were pushing 9/11 because it wasn't booked because it was undesirable (they're words). When MOH expressed that that day was not acceptable on BM went so far to say Jeez...people need to get over it...I can't really repeat what MOH said to him but we didn't book there!
I asked MOH what she thought if I went with that date because I couldn't overlook the fact that there was a HUGE discount. She said that she loved me and would still be my MOH if I picked that day but she would feel very uncomfortable since she had nearly lost her family that day.
Afterwards she told me that she had mentioned it to her DH and he said that he couldn't think of a better way to remember the day then by seeing me get married.
So...there you go...same family two different opinions....some help huh?!?!

I personally wouldn't do it- it just conjurs up too many bad feelings.. but I live in the city, and was here when it happened- I will never forget that day. I also wouldn't want it to be my anniversary date. But you have to do what feels right for you.
Same here. Living in Manhattan during that time was awful so there's just no way I could possibly have that be my anniversary every year. But, that's not the case for everyone so go with your gut.
ETS: my brother is a Detective in the terrorist interdiction unit of NYPD so I couldn't have done it just for that reason, he would have been really hurt. There is a function every year and I couldn't imagine making him miss it to be at my wedding.

Re: 9/11 wedding date?
Posted by David'sbride Especially the last paragraph I agree with. Brides have no qualms about getting married on Labor Day or on Dec 7th which was Pearl Harbor (up until the WTC attacks the greatest attack ever on our soil and greatest loss of US lives).
Labor Day is to celebrate the workers in this country, it has absolutely nothing to do with war.
To me the difference between Pearl Harbor day and September 11th is that the anniversary is actually known by the date. I would bet that a substantial number of people have no idea what date Pearl Harbor day is so I don't think that saying 'I'm getting married on December 7th' would conjure the same reaction as 'I'm getting married on September 11th'. Also, we live in New York and it was a civilian attack. Pearl Harbor was in Hawaii, 60+ years ago, and it was a military attack. I'm not trying to say that it wasn't a tragedy, but I don't think it was in the same scope.

i wouldn't do it - but everyone has a different way of looking at things. The phrase '9/11' conjurs up so many images and feelings...
