A Heads Up!

Original post by LIWeddings

Well on December 11, 2005 this website will be 10 years old! WOW, where does the time go? So, I was thinking, what can we do to celebrate? First, after doing some quick math I see that it's possible to reach 3 million posts around the date of our anniversary. Thus we must have a 3 millionth post contest. Second, we have to have one heck of a GTG. Third, well, I need some ideas. So, without being ridiculous what can all of you suggest as some type of anniversary celebration where you are on the receiving end?

Alright, kiddies, enough of the haberdashery (is that the correct spelling??)

Another thing to consider is that early December is going to be hard to pull off booking somewhere unless we do it soon, because that's the time a lot of companies book their holiday parties.

Maybe we should create a network of LIW vendors that are willing to participate and there should be prizes of $100 gift certificates towards the vendor of your choice since not everyone will have every type of vendor booked right away? This could also be used for the newlyweds depending on the vendor!

This could include favors, invitations, limos, attendant gifts, bridal accessories, hotel stay, etc.

i wouldn't be surprised if Ron already has the place booked... i'm sure he's been planning this for a while now

for the other ideas though--- thats pretty much what the WOTY was.... it would be so similar... especially if theyre planning to do another WOTY just a month or so later.. jmo though (and of course, speaking from a Newleyweds POV)

ie: The couple that brings in the most new vendors to LIWeddings
-or-
The couple that goes to the most extreme to prove how much LIWeddings means to them

Hmmm brings in vendors. Nope, we aren't hiring!

Ahhh buy an essay on how LIW has helped you plan your wedding. Now that could be fun!

How about a dunking tank at the GTG? I get to choose the bride that sits in the hot seat and everyone gets a chance to throw a ball and see if they can dunk the bride. Yes, that's it! Dunk the bride. A buck a ball and all proceeds go to charity! I love it! And you have to wear a wedding gown (we will supply it).

Yippy! What an idea!

No TV = 2 years now! Has been great. I love it when someone says did you see so and so last night? And I say, who is that? Boy do I get looks! Or when a teacher assigns the kids to watch a program and they say we don't have TV. Teacher thinks they are trying to get out of the assignment. Then they call and I say we don't have TV. They think it's a conspiracy!

(just to clarify we do have a TV set. but no cable or any other way to watch broadcasts. only hooked up to the DVD payer)

You can FM your not for public ideas!

How about we get some of these poseur brides on here to dunk?? You know the ones, who have less than 5 posts and they're all either advertisements or bashing one vendor??

Okay, lets get back to the subject at hand - planning the anniversary party. There have been some great ideas but we need more please. Also, if everyone is up to it I would also like to include something for charity as well. We give to two charities. One of them being the coalition against domestic violence. Basically they help women and their children who have some not so nice spouses. This is the charity I would like to focus on.

ok.. this is sort of abstract, but ill try to type it out the to the best of my ability (so i apologie before hand )

Picture 2 big bins next to each other. (like medium size garbage pale size), One is for Wishes, and the other is for Donations (but you could name it something better). There's pieces of paper on every table, and the Guests write what their wishes for their marriage are... or for their future, or whatever. (One wish per page) For every wish they make, they put a dollar in the other bin to help make someone else's wishes come true. Of course, it would be by the honor system, and everyone could line up and throw the wishes and $$ in the different baskets while there's a moment of silence (w/ some mushy music playing in the background). (or you just just do $1 dollar for every year married, but since most people are newlyweds or not married yet, the $$$ may be less) and, of course, people could put in more than that, but thats just the basics of it (its been a long day... )

Why not just have a Charity Dinner type of thing?

Everyone in attendance pays per plate - set to your choosing...everything will be donated by the vendors?

Everyone has it in for the vendors tonight. Maybe they should just hand us their check books and we'll take it from there!

The last charity dinner I attended was for the other charity we support (The Foundation Fighting Blindness). It was $1000 per plate. Think everyone is up to that?

Re: A Heads Up!

and maybe request that everyone bring an article of (used, but not destroyed) warm clothing to donate at the door? Many people affected by that situation tend to be relocate rather quickly and even if they have time to get their stuff, theyre still almost starting their lives over (and since it will be winter time....)
