A Heads Up!

Original post by LIWeddings

Well on December 11, 2005 this website will be 10 years old! WOW, where does the time go? So, I was thinking, what can we do to celebrate? First, after doing some quick math I see that it's possible to reach 3 million posts around the date of our anniversary. Thus we must have a 3 millionth post contest. Second, we have to have one heck of a GTG. Third, well, I need some ideas. So, without being ridiculous what can all of you suggest as some type of anniversary celebration where you are on the receiving end?

I just read thru all 5 pages and let me just say... WOW! I never realized how well some people here really knew each other and how funny you all could be. I have not been an overly active poster, but read almost every day more than once a day! I can't beleive how helpful everyone is!
I digress...
How about a carnival type thing (dunk tank if you were serious, I would put on a wedding dress and get in!) or maybe even a game show type theme, where you do give out the 1st, 2nd, 3rd anniversary presents, like someone earlier mentiong(paper/gift cert, cotton/bathrobe) but, like someone else said, make them work for it! You could do newlyweds game, LIW Jeopardy, Family Feud.... and have different prizes not only fot the winners, but smaller prizes for those that had the courage to particpate!
This is long but what do you think?

I love this idea!! And I also like Hollie's idea of each of us bringing something to donate to the charity. Of course, whatever you decide Ron, my only request is that there's food!!!

Okay, lets get back to the subject at hand - planning the anniversary party. There have been some great ideas but we need more please. Also, if everyone is up to it I would also like to include something for charity as well. We give to two charities. One of them being the coalition against domestic violence. Basically they help women and their children who have some not so nice spouses. This is the charity I would like to focus on.

I don't have any really good suggestions for the party but I do have a great charity idea- Big Brothers/Big Sisters- they were so needy, especially the Brooklyn/Queens one that we made our wedding donation to. They actually wrote us and told us our donation made it able for them to hire a MSW intern for the fall. So I know the money gets put to good use. Sorry if this is sort of off topic.

Not that is would be any sort of prize, but it might be fun to have some pics of the wedding trends (tuxes, dresses, flowers, wtc) from 10 years ago & see how different it is from today. Maybe a collage for a sign-in board???

Ahhh a comedy show!
That's kinda what it would be viewing photos from years ago. Just the dress styles alone oh and the tuxedos! Remember the ruffled shirts? This could be fun! Thanks!

I was thinking that since it will be around Christmas, maybe Ron could contact the agency and find out what gifts the families are asking for. We could set a price limit. Each couple could bring a wrapped gift for the family (or something along those lines!)

I like this idea!

Maybe we can also donate our old bm gowns (probably not with the hliday gifts though ha ha)

Like a Toys for Tots type of thing? I think it's great donating presents to the kids from the charity Ron listed above...

But, don't we get something as well? Not to say I'm selfish or anything...but donating is great, and obviously should be incorporated....but what about us??? How would we win the prizes?

I bet this is already planned out...and Ron's doing this to us out of boredom!!!!!!!!!!

I was thinking of suggesting donating BM dresses- there are a lot of organizations that collect them for girls who can't afford a prom dress- I think it is a fantastic idea!

Are you nuts?
I have zero time to play. I am asking because I have no time and need help.
So, please continue to send in your suggestions!

Re: A Heads Up!

How about a silent auction? We can bid on vendors or prizes and the proceeds will go to help the charity.

Silent auction is a great idea. I really liked the idea about the different anniversary gifts themed around the years that go by.

Hmmm an auction. Now that could be fun. But why a silent one? Yelling and screaming is so much fun, isn't it?

200+ screaming women all bidding on the same thing at the same time ... do you really want that??

It's even worse when they're all getting married or just got married - Can we say BRIDES GONE MAD????
