A Heads Up!

Original post by LIWeddings

Well on December 11, 2005 this website will be 10 years old! WOW, where does the time go? So, I was thinking, what can we do to celebrate? First, after doing some quick math I see that it's possible to reach 3 million posts around the date of our anniversary. Thus we must have a 3 millionth post contest. Second, we have to have one heck of a GTG. Third, well, I need some ideas. So, without being ridiculous what can all of you suggest as some type of anniversary celebration where you are on the receiving end?

It's even worse when they're all getting married or just got married - Can we say BRIDES GONE MAD????

Sounds like an after hours TV infomercial!

Re: A Heads Up!

The school I work in has a Chinese Auction each year and it's a lot of fun. There are baskets filled with different items and a little chinese food box in front of each. You buy raffle tickets, choose which basket you would like to win and put your name in the box in front of it. Very simple. Maybe some vendors can donate things for the baskets (gift certificates, samples etc) that would interest brides to be as well as newlyweds. Instead of buying the tickets though people can earn them by donating items to charity.

Hmmm an auction. Now that could be fun. But why a silent one? Yelling and screaming is so much fun, isn't it?

then how come all the threads that involve that end up getting pulled

(am i about to be sent to bed again? )

How about some of the people that have been here along time??? I know I haven't been on for 10 years but I have been on for a few years. And maybe the brides who are already married wear the dresses again?????

Re: A Heads Up!

Hey there could be a 'through the years' fashion show, this way the brides who wore their dresses can use them again!!! Who says you can only wear it once??

Or a contest for the most outrageous headpiece we can find!!!!

...everything will be donated by the vendors?

Everyone has it in for the vendors tonight. Maybe they should just hand us their check books and we'll take it from there!

The last charity dinner I attended was for the other charity we support (The Foundation Fighting Blindness). It was $1000 per plate. Think everyone is up to that?

you are joking right?
geesh we are definately not comming to this thing ...

How about a silent auction? We can bid on vendors or prizes and the proceeds will go to help the charity.

I like that idea..I am all for helping and would love to do something like that..for charity.

Re: A Heads Up!

I;m tapped out of ideas for now, but maybe something for charity could be that we pledge a certain amount of $$ or a certain amount of hours or service in order to enter a contest, and then maybe everyone who volunteered time and money could hold a separate event to help women and inchildren in danger. As in, say we collect a few thousand dollars, and 50 volunteers at 4 hours each, we could throw a christmas party or go bring secret santa gifts to women who are at a shelter protecting them from domestic violence (I'm not sure what those houses are called). It's only 2 weeks before xmas and hanukkah, so we could really use our time and $$ to do something good. Or we could get vendors to donate raffle prizes and all proceeds go to a holiday donation to the charity. I like the idea though of people somehow donating time, where LIW brides can actually reach out to those other women personally. Especially with the launch of LIF, I think families reaching out to other families is appropriate.

There's a lot we can do. Is there a charity thing we can do that's wedding related? Like if you bring in an old BM or prom or bridal gown (which will go to a site that collects gowns for poor girls for prom or wedding), it counts as a raffle entry, etc. I'm sure we all have at least one BM dress we won;'t wear again, but would be great to help a girl look beautiful at her prom, or maybe someone would like to donate their bridal gown to give a needy woman the princess feeling she enver knew she could have.

Re: A Heads Up!

I love the idea of bringing a gift for charity.

Maybe as part of admission you have to bring in one wrapped gift, and one can off food or something.

I also adore the anniversary idea of the paper, etc.

Now, I don't know if this could be pulled off, but maybe you can have 10 LIW couples 'represent' each year, wearing a gown style that was popular that year or something.

It wouldn't have to be someone who got married that year, but just someone to represent that year.

Frist of all COngrats Ron & Liz on 10 years
That is really an accomplishment in this day & age. Your web site has touch so many brides & grooms- by being user friendl y & second by creating a family atmosphere and a place for brides to ven when the RSVP's dont come in

Reading the thread, i really like the cruise idea, but since its Dec,it maybe to cold on the waters?? I agree with MCD, this 10 Anny GTG should be diferent from the WOTY that would then be only 1 mth away? Taking over JIllians sounds great as the guys will have their viedo games and there will be enough to do plus dancing.JMHO the cost of the tk should include access to any game or area.that way we all could just have fun

The 1 year 2 year gifting is good, but that would leave out us who are married 6-8 mths The BM dress/gift donation is a great idea. ALso some of the prizes could be a weekend at a B&B on LI or couple spa day at Maxium

JMHO
