Re: A little personal
Noreen you would be surprised how many women havent' gone for their first visit to a gyno. Of course we all know we are to go annually and some women are REALLY great about that. Some women weren't, and that is nothing to be ashamed of. You are going now - and that is what counts.
I always had tons of random gyno problems, so I have been going since I was like 15 or something - and at one point I was going four times a year for like 5 years. I had the most wonderful doctor in my home town that I had grown so accustomed to, I cried when I had to leave him and find somebody in New Jersey! I have women and men now in Jersey - since I am pregnant, I have to see everybody in the practice. I will admit to liking the women better, but the man I had originally was the bomb, so I don't think it's a gender thing for me - more of just a preference of personality.
It does not does not does not hurt. It feels ****** - like iw get your probing hand out of there - but its' so fast and believe me they dont' want to hang out in there any longer than they have to. It's like lickety split and you are sitting back up. I promise. I would have no investment in lying to you about this! As far as taking blood goes - look over your other shoulder, clench your fist and talk! I talk through the whole thing - it eases my mind.
And when you go in - be like - Hi I am Noreen - I am a nervous panicked wreck because I have never done this. And I will be a panicked wreck next time I come back because that is my nature. Just be up front about it. These doctors have seen it ALL. Ask as many questions as you can think of - and please just project ahead to when you are driving home and you are a woman who has finally seen a gyno for the first time! Good luck to you and let us know how it goes!

Re: A little personal
Dr Bush is a very nice lady. But can you imagine what prompts a woman named Bush to go into gynocology?? I dont know her very well but Im guessing she has a GREAT sense of humor. hahaha
I would actually love to find a doctor that had a more private practice and I could get to know (and thus feel more comfortable with) but up until 2 years ago, everytime i would visit a gyno, she would immediately retire or move out of state. What is it with my vagina? haahhah

Re: A little personal
I also read that you should not deustch (sp??) because it can produce a false negative for the pap test, and can be harmful to your health if not caught early!
How can speaking German produce a false negative on the pap test? HAHAHAHAHAHA
Sorry Jenny I couldn't resist
(douche is the word I think you mean!)
Also, ask for the Thin Prep Pap Test. It is a different way of collecting and analyzing the specimen.
My only advise is to breathe deep and think nice thoughts. It's over in 5 minutes. I hate that exam too but it's better to get it done.

You will be fine. I do not dread going at all.. Of course I have been going to one since i was about 15 or 16. I guess the first time i was embarrased and didnt know what to expect.. and it didnt help that my mom doesnt talk about that stuff..
I dont mind going, its not painfull i mean i guess the specula (or whatever) is a little uncomfortable , but the whole procedure lasts about 3 minutes...

OMG...Dr. Bush
I agree with the other girls it's more embarrasing than painful. You'll be fine I have to 2x a year b/c I'm on the pill.
And yes girls who haven't gone to a gyno yet....PLEASE GO!! It's extremely important.

Marcela,
Does everyone on the pill have to go 2x a year? I'm on the patch and I wasn't told that by my gyno's office. Then again his staff SUCCCCCCKS. The doctor is great, though so I don't want to change.
I'm going Dec 23. Happy Christmas. ack!

Jenn, I've now got an image of a bunch of women sitting on the floor gathered around her chair waiting with baited breath to hear all about the trip to the cooch doc!
(I think there's some sort of mental deficiency thing going on with me tonight! My apologies to anyone I've offended.)

I hope Noreen's visit went well...
I was 24 when I went for my first gyno visit. I guess I waited so long because I was afraid. But it really wasn't so bad and I've gone faithfully every year since.
It actually doesn't even embarass me anymore at all. Maybe because I have such an amazing (and female) doctor. She's so down to earth and makes you so comfortable, you don't feel funny in the least.

yes you should...not for a full check up and pap...they should just check your ovaries for inflamation...and maybe your boobies too...even on the patch

I don't see why there would be a difference b/w someone taking the pill vs. the patch, since it's essentially the same thing, right? I don't really know if you HAVE to, but my gyno makes me go. She'll only give me pills for 6 mos at a time. She gives me a full check up (incl. a pap) every time I go. I think it also has something to do with your blood pressure and taking the pill.

Re: A little personal
Just when I started to not absolutely hate going, my gyno left the practice She was so nice! Now I have to go to a new doctor, who happens to be a man and I am completely dreading it. I mean, I know he's seen it all but something about it just makes me uneasy.
