A new thread - the STUPIDEST comments you have gotten from ppl about YOUR wedding...

Since i was 38 when we got engaged, my cousin's wife said, 'At your age, why don't you just get married in a couple of months'.

Me: I really can't afford it.

Her: At your age, you don't have any $ in the bank

Me:(felt like saying) Yeah I do biitch, but its none of your freaken business how long we wait.

We had a 14 month engagement.

My FBIL asked us if we(FH & I) were staying at the same place on or wedding night!!

Umm Yeah!!! Hello! We have stuff to do! lol

My mom did a REAL NICE one to me last night!

MOB-Um, so I guess I can't invite everyone from my office.
ME-Well, no, we are over as it is.
MOB-Do you really think that's fair, I am the mother of the bride...
ME-Well I AM THE BRIDE...
MOB-You got to invite everyone from YOUR job...
ME-Well yeah cause, wait a minute...GOODNIGHT MOM!!

38 more days people, RSVP date is THIS FRIDAY and she is STILL trying to add people, ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm NO

When I was looking for photographers, I went to one that was in my neighborhood. I told the woman that my fiance was a soldier in the Army and that there was a possibility that he was going to Iraq. I said would it be possible to have in our contract a clause that we can change the date due to FH being overseas. She said it wasn't necessary. Then had the ballz to ask me if it was such a smart idea to set a wedding date. What freakin business is it of yours???? Either you want my business or you don't and apparently you don't.


We ending up finding a fabulous photographer who had no problem whatsoever in adding the clause to the contract.

I got a few snarky comments about that since DH is a Marine.

Oooo, I have another one. I've been getting it mostly from coworkers, but some friends have been saying this to me too. Anytime I go to eat something 'bad' like cookies, or have a beer I get 'I wouldn't do that if I were you. You have a wedding dress to fit into.'

I find it to be the most insulting thing! I think I'm going to deck the next person who says it.

OMG!!!!! I get that exact same comment all the time from a few people. People who've been married for 30 years, people who got married 30 years but now are divorced....and someone close to me, who constantly says 'well did you try the guy i used?' HELLOOOOOO it was 15 years ago.

That is a good one! Thank God my parents are retired. My Mom is so not into inviting her friends but my Dad (they are divorced) on the other hand is into inviting all his friends since he's been a teenager and that 'have known me my whole life' uggghh

My lesbian cousin is going to be a groomsman for my FH b/c they get along really well, we are all really close and I know she hates dresses and he thinks it a great idea. We asked, she agreed, loves the idea in fact, but our family gives me weird looks, in fact one of my other cousin said 'I don't think I'd be comfortable with a girl in a tux in my wedding pictures!' I said 'well it's my wedding and WE are perfectly fine with it'.

Gheez!

My own mother said this to my FH...ofcourse, he was polite and didnt say anything back to her.. but later on I made sure she understood how dumb she sounded

before we got engaged we were having a conversation about how we both do not want to get married in a church - and that we'll most likely get married at the RH........FMIL (who doesnt go to Church regulary and doesnt pray and doesnt do anything that would make me consider her 'religious') freaked out.......

'You aren't going to get married in a church?!?! Your sister got married in a Church'

'well you are going to at least have a priest then, right?'

'no priest! well I guess if that's what you want to do then that's fine, but I don't understand because if its not under the eyes of God then it doesn't count'

I was FUMING - luckily FH argued with her as I sat there uncomfortably - but now I think that she is okay with it - or is at least acting like she is okay with it......i guess it was better that she found out our plans before the engagement so she had time to get used to the idea.......

more recent comments were 'well at least you'll be saving money by getting married at the RH' I just kept my mouth shut - I guess she doesn't realize its $500 to use the chapel and we still have to hire an officiant

Do I really have to buy a new dress? I have one that fit me really well and looks fabulous on me.

MIL:
Well...it's kinda old and I wore to a function once.
ME:
How old is it?
MIL:
I wore it around 1980 or so, but I'm sure it will only need a little alteration.
DH:
There is NO WAY you are wearing a dress that old and look ridiculous.

Most of the comments are from my mother:

1. Ivory? Won't the dress look dirty?

2. OK, so my parents' house (where I grew up) is on the same little waterway as the RH...so I thought it would be awesome if my dad rowed me to the ceremony....how cool would that be??? My mom's response: 'This will NOT be a CIRCUS!' I've decided that Circus is my new wedding theme, and FH will wear a red nose down the isle, and I will wear a rainbow wig.

I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of them right now.

I love the 'when are you getting engaged?' one - hilarious!

Crazy, right?? One of my friends was just in a wedding on the grooms side and wore a tux with a bustier under it and she looked hot. I think its a cool idea. As long as you, FH and your cuz are fine with it, why does it matter to anyone?

OMG, these are crazy.

mine are:

FFIL: Can I bring a date? I want to piss off my Ex (meaning my FMIL!)
ME: No you cannot and I don't think our wedding is the approriate place for that type of behaviour

BIL: Since you are having an inexpensive wedding you should invite more people, you'll make more money
ME: We want a small wedding, I'm not going to invite people for gifts

BIL: You HAVE to have a RD, it's your day!
ME: yes, it is my day and I don't want a RD

FSIL: You are getting old, you shouldn't wait for the wedding to get pregnant
ME: I'm only 33, we plan to wait a year AFTER the wedding
FSIL: If he's anything like his brother just get him drunk and you'll have your baby.
ME: I want to wait too and I would never trick FH into having a child!

Same FSIL: You're spending over $3,000 on your wedding!!!! What a waste!
ME: I had no responce for this one, basically my jaw dropped. My FH and I just bought a house and we figured our $3,500 budget was very small and extrememly reasonable. This is from the same girl who has made comments to me for doing my own hair and makeup and for only have two meat choices at the wedding. What? Did I make any comments when you served ziti and cold cuts at your wedding??? No, because it was a day to celebrate your marriage, it wasn't about food!

Yeah, I really tried to make my aunt realize how ignorant she was, but she went on to say that my girl wasn't going to show up in pictures because she's black-- like she's a frikkin shadow or something. Seriously, it was one of the most ridiculous things I have ever been told in my entire life and I just had to leave the conversation because you can't reason with someone like that.
