A Personal Post and Plea for your Help (with link to pics)
Original post by LauraPete
Okay, by now you are probably all asking - what the heck is this girl doing with her wedding 3 WEEKS AWAY?' Excellent question. Don't really have a logical answer unless you accept 'certifiably nuts'. I definitely fell off my rocker a few months ago. Anyway, I am so mortified at my inability to make a decision that I wish I could post this anonymously I but my mug is all over these pictures so that would be difficult!!!
To get serious for a moment, I am going to open up a window into my personal life. Bare with me and I will try to explain from where the real issue stems. I used to be really sick. Sick to the point that I lost all ability to have a healthy self-image. I do not see what others see. Call it body dismorphia or wanting to look like kate moss - whatever. But it has made this process UNBAREABLE to me to the point that I cry myself to sleep at night over a DRESS!!! I cannot believe what this fearing what i will look like for 5 hours of my life has reduced me to. That is why I take so many picture b/c what i see in the mirror is not what is reflected in the camera. I can't stand looking at myself anymore but I can't ignore that I will be on display in 26 days for all to see and comment about and all I can think of is that I would rather wear a toga. I know this sounds horrible and negative and I am bride! I am supposed to be happy! Don't get me wrong, I am elated to no end that I found my soul mate and we will spend eternity together and I love him to death. I just never realized how self-consious I would feel during this entire process. It's not jitters or nerves. It's unfortunately just me.
So, I made light of it in my last post with jokes and calling myself a 'psychobride' (which I am by the way....) but this is where I am pleading for your help. I am sure there are a few out there sort of like me.....
I have added some pics to the ever-increasing 'laurapete dress' album. Just to refresh, the first few pics is the Langer dress, then there is an Amsale, then skip toward the end to see the AnneBarge, and a Vera in that order. There is a marisa with a detachable train somewhere in the middle.
Please take a look and don't hold back about your opinions. Don't feel bad telling me the truth. I need to hear it. Some pics were taken by me in the mirror so they are not as good, some have the veil and flowers, some I am made-up etc...

First - No, not if you are going to continue to drive yourself nuts. Then, YES you look like you have a figure in the Anne Barge but you also look like you have a beautiful figure in the Langer! I agree with what EvenEdan said -- even without the wow of the back the front is elegant and sophisticated -- and it's just lovely on you!
I agree

Well Laura... The Counselor in me wants to tell you to seek help etc...but I am sure you don't want to hear that either.....the newlywed in me has to say that the First Gown was perfect for you!
It complimented your figure just right. I saw that you might have some trouble with getting the train altered, but if it is a good salon they should be able to accomedate you with what will make the dress fit properly and look its best.
I honestly feel that the other dresses were just ehh...some were nicer than others but none of them gave me the feeling that the first one did....as soon as I saw the pics, I was like WOW how beautiful of a bride. Good luck with your selection and I hope that your FHubby takes good care of you, you are a beautiful woman not only on the outside but on the inside...how do I know that? Because it shines through you in the first picture! Take care, Pam

First of all you look great in all of them I personally like the Marisa and the Langer! JMO though, you look great in all of them, you will look beautiful no matter what! I know it is hard to deal with things like this, but be confident about yourself, you are so pretty and look great in all of those dresses, take a good look at all of them....Good Luck and let us know which one you pick>>>>

Okay, maybe this will help me:
Anne Barge:
Pros - empire waist (always wanted to increase the bust) - gives me a figure and a waist - satin - comfortable - the dress gives off a softer feeling
Cons - no train/plain in the back - ivory color (pearl) - too much beading??? (is it?)
Langner:
Pros - white - simple/elegant - different - pretty back
Cons - don't like the band in the front - worry about the bustle - look like a mummy? - a very hard, structured look

ok first i understand where you are comming from the idea of people staring at me for 5 hours was driving me insane until i finally decided it didnt matter what anyone thought or said because there were only 2 opinions that mattered mine and ken's the day isnt about what anyone else thinks hon it really is all about your love and the celebration of the rest of your lives together - you look beautiful why - because you are. it really is that simple - any of the dresses will look great on you because you are wearing it. choose the one you like because you like it not because someone else told you it looks good - or because it fits in your budget or you think it will make the biggest entrance - choose something you are comfortable in and you will look fabulous because you are beautiful and that will radiate through - i stressed over my gown - but in the end it isnt about the dress it really is about you feeling good it in - which one did you try on and go WOW with ? the answer is the one you should wear - much love hon -

Re: A Personal Post and Plea for your Help (with link to pics)
added more pics of first dress and threw some other dresses in the recycle bin. I am leaning toward the Anne Barge. But this would require me dropping another $3200 at a different store and LOSING my $1600 deposit on this one (for a store credit).
I think what makes this harder is that I have no vision/imagination. The Langner is like 6 sizes too big on me so it looks frumpy in comparison to the Barge (which is only one size too big in these pics). I could be completely insane and have the Langner altered AND the Anne Barge and then compare but what planet do I think I am from? I may as well have bought the $6000 Amsale with detachable train if I intended on blowing that much money on FIVE HOURS of my life!!!!!
Is it really worth this?
