A Personal Post and Plea for your Help (with link to pics)
Original post by LauraPete
Okay, by now you are probably all asking - what the heck is this girl doing with her wedding 3 WEEKS AWAY?' Excellent question. Don't really have a logical answer unless you accept 'certifiably nuts'. I definitely fell off my rocker a few months ago. Anyway, I am so mortified at my inability to make a decision that I wish I could post this anonymously I but my mug is all over these pictures so that would be difficult!!!
To get serious for a moment, I am going to open up a window into my personal life. Bare with me and I will try to explain from where the real issue stems. I used to be really sick. Sick to the point that I lost all ability to have a healthy self-image. I do not see what others see. Call it body dismorphia or wanting to look like kate moss - whatever. But it has made this process UNBAREABLE to me to the point that I cry myself to sleep at night over a DRESS!!! I cannot believe what this fearing what i will look like for 5 hours of my life has reduced me to. That is why I take so many picture b/c what i see in the mirror is not what is reflected in the camera. I can't stand looking at myself anymore but I can't ignore that I will be on display in 26 days for all to see and comment about and all I can think of is that I would rather wear a toga. I know this sounds horrible and negative and I am bride! I am supposed to be happy! Don't get me wrong, I am elated to no end that I found my soul mate and we will spend eternity together and I love him to death. I just never realized how self-consious I would feel during this entire process. It's not jitters or nerves. It's unfortunately just me.
So, I made light of it in my last post with jokes and calling myself a 'psychobride' (which I am by the way....) but this is where I am pleading for your help. I am sure there are a few out there sort of like me.....
I have added some pics to the ever-increasing 'laurapete dress' album. Just to refresh, the first few pics is the Langer dress, then there is an Amsale, then skip toward the end to see the AnneBarge, and a Vera in that order. There is a marisa with a detachable train somewhere in the middle.
Please take a look and don't hold back about your opinions. Don't feel bad telling me the truth. I need to hear it. Some pics were taken by me in the mirror so they are not as good, some have the veil and flowers, some I am made-up etc...

I just wanted to put my 2 cents in... I think you have nothing to worry about. You're very beautiful!! You look great in all dresses but my favorite of course and agree with most everyone here is the first dress. All of them are gorgeous but I just think the first makes you look stunning!

Re: A Personal Post and Plea for your Help (with link to pics)
I just want to take a minute to thank everyone for taking the time to look at my pics and post your opinions and well wishes. Thank you also for those that sent me sincere forum mail. I will get back to you shortly. Just to ease the concern, I do have therapy in my life and will continue to do so but this added pressue to look 'AMAZING' and find the 'perfect' dress for this one day... I guess I just lost it. And that these pictures will be on family members mantels for who knows how long. It was really difficult for me to write this post and 'expose' myself like this (as there ARE people on this board that know me) so I really do appreciate what everyone is saying. I do appreciate the honesty and the compliments - especially the details. It's true that they make a difference (like, does this one make my bust look too small or my waist out of proportion etc.). I cannot WAIT to read these posts one month from now when I come back from basking in Hawaii sun and laugh at myself (I know I will).
But I do have ONE MORE QUESTION:
for those of you that chose dress #1 (Langner) b/c the back was stunning, does that really matter MORE than what the front looks like? I mean, how many pictures will be taken from the back...and how many will make it into the album? And will it look as stunning when it the tails are chopped and the back pulled under.....?
uhm, sorry, that was way more than one question... : )

I honestly love the front and back of the Langer dress - it is so classic and it just accentuates your figure perfectly. Even with the back bustled he back is still going to look gorgeous because the back of it has the pretty lines at the top of your back (i cant explain it) - do you know what i mean:?

EXACTLY!! I would say the back is beautuful but it also looks best on you all around...your proportions fit it perfectly and I think as far as fit...you will feel all night ( many hours) the most comfortable in it...thats a big thing for me...I have to look what I feel is the best but feel like I'm most comfortable in it...to keep away from the 'what do I look like in it' part on the brain that takes over.... Take our advice but also try them again, ask which one you feel the least self conscious in...the one you know inside you feel good in, but cant accept...because I know that sometimes with issues like you have , it's hard to allow yourself to accept that you do indeed look good......you do and I think you will get over this for your wedding day, or at least after...lol...sorry but humor helps Im sure you know... Please keep us posted now that you've shared, Im sure we are all worried, concerned and excited to see what the outcome will be!!!

I think that The first dress looks amazing on you. That would be my pick.
I do understand how you feel, I put alot of pressure on myself for this wedding and still when i look at my pictures I feel that I looked like a blimp. It doesnt matter what we tell you to wear, honestly it will be up to you to choose the dress that makes you look your most beautiful...and you are. Pick #1

I voted for #1..why is the back important, you ask? Because during your actual nuptuals (cant spell today, ahhh) people will be looking at your back. When you take photos dancing, your back might be in the photo. But anyways, I voted for #1 because I thought it was a gorgeous a dress and it fit your nicely.

I can honestly say I chose the Langner based on just the front. It is so exquisite and sophisticated looking and it so gorgeous on your body. The back is simply a bonus!

Langer Langer Langer!
Definitely!!
You look FABULOUS in it. Your figure is well defined, your bust doesn't look too big or too small. It works all over the place!
The back is a bonus... 'cause you're right who's taking pix from the back? (except people in the church during the ceremony!)
Anyway -- you are lovely. Go for the Langer. If I was thin like you - I would have taken that dress in a heart beat.

I am going to jump on the bandwagon and say the Langner dress as well, both front and back are gorgeous. You look the most comfortable in it and that says a lot I think. It looks like it was made for you. It is a stunning gown and you will be a beautiful bride. Good luck!!!

I, too, like the first one. It isn't only about what the back looks like, the front is simple and elegant. However, you look amazing in all of them. (I second the potato sack comment!)
Your husband will think you look beautiful no matter what when you walk down the aisle.
I think you have a lot of courage to open yourself up like this. Good luck! I wish you all the best.

i love the back of this dress but i would have to vote against it. coming from a bride who's bustle was stepped on by dear dh on the dance floor, it was a pain in the a$$ all night! it kept falling down because he ripped part of it (by accident of course) and i had to keep holding it up and worrying someone else was going to step on it and i would fall. and i didn't have a long train at all.
also, your right, you won't have many pictures of the back at all. so if your on the fence on what it looks like from the front and you like something else just as much from the front with a detachable train or no train at all, then i'd go with something else. jmo

hi,
first off, i wanted to say how sorry i am that you are having so much anxiety about the dress. my heart goes out to you!
i have to say that i think you look fantastic in all of the dresses. if i had to choose my favorite i would pick the first one - the back was absolutely stunning. but i hear ya about the bustle... i also actually REALLY like the melissa sweet dress on you. i've seen it in the magazines, and i swear, you look just like the model in it!
