A solution to inconsiderate people.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Original post by jill13bean
Well.... i was thinking and my FH and i are talking about who brings dates etc.... and his friends always have a girl but not a serious girlfriend (most of them anyway). Since i don't want trash and no shows at my wedding like people have said before and to prevent that response of 1 plus a date possibly.... i think that those that do not have a girlfriend or boyfriend for over like 6 months or even have a girlfriend at the time we send out invitations they won't get so and so plus a date.. there are other important people i rather include than having some random person at my wedding if it is so important for someone to bring a date then they can ask and he can tell his friends that
how is this i am not inviting every single person with a date

Its ure wedding do what u want. Everyone that is invited to my wedding is invited with a date. I would hate to have gone to a wedding without a date. Especially if it was someone that I didn't know their family or other friends to well.

Personally, I always had a rule when dating. If I wasnt engaged but I was invited with a guest, I didnt bring them. I refused to bring someone when I knew I would know people there and have a good time. I am not inviting anyone who isnt engaged or living with someone with a guest. I want to cut my list and this was the fairest way.

Re: A solution to inconsiderate people.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been invited to a few weddings with the option of a date and chose not to bring one because I would know so many people at the wedding and my date would not. I knew that I would have a better time dancing/hanging out with my friends than having to entertain someone else. I have spoken to a group of my single friends about the date situation and they all had no problem not bringing a date because they would have each other. So they may have to sit out of a couple slow dances, but that's not the end of the world. It's a perfect time to hit the bar!

i think as long as the person your inviting will be sitting with other people they know then its ok to invite them without a guest...

If these people know other people at the wedding and are not dating anyone seriously - I think it's fine not to be invited with a guest.
If they only know one or two people at the wedding - I think you have to invite the with a guest. I've gone to lots of wedding alone and only knew the bride and groom. I was miserable.

I noticed that a lot of the guests that we invited with guests ( single people ) are coming to the wedding by themselves without a date. So there is hope!

I invited all my adult singles with a guest. I don't know about etiquette...I just though it was the considerate & polite thing to do.
I wouldn't want to go to a wedding alone, without the option to bring a date
BY THE WAY: Does etiquette say anything about inviting strangers from a wedding website to your reception just so you can make the minimum???
The responses are rolling in too slowly...I'm gettin nervous!!! Anyone free Memorial Day weekend!

i totally agree with what your saying. i invited only my friends that were in commited relationships with dates. i didnt wanmt to have to invire 50 strangers instead of 50 friends or co workers. alot of my friends said they had a better time with the other singles and there friends then with a random date. one of my friends said it was so much less pressure because she didnt feel she had to scramble to find a date. i only think it would be rude if you didnt invite someone that was in a commited relatiosnship i think its perfectly fine if there single to exclude them with a date. my stepbrother did the same thing at his wedding. another friend is also doing it as well

I agree with you and understand how you feel however we decided to tell all of our single friends not to worry there would be other singles just like them....we have three tables of singles but we made the numbers of male and female equal at these tables so no one will feel left out...actually all of our singles friends are looking to do some serious mingling and hook-up at our wedding!

Re: A solution to inconsiderate people.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if i invite 10 people with dates and they bring dates i have to pay another $1500 for those 10 people i don't know... i don't think so... no way in ****
maybe if i was paying $80 a plate but not even we are talking another $1500
i had to add that because some people here are saying invite with all singles with dates...i don't know what you are paying pp but not for the $$ i am paying... can't and won't do it i will use discretion

I just meant that people that are saying that it is so rude not to invite all adults with a date may be paying a lot less $$$$ pp

I have been invited to weddings without a date and I was not offended. If I know a lot of people there, I look foward to having a good time with my friends! I think if you are inviting someone who doesnt know many people at the wedding, they should be invited with a date, as well as people who are in committed relationships. I am no longer planning a wedding, but because my former hall only held 200, there was no way I could have invited all singles with a guest without cutting out family members..it wasnt even an issue with money.

Re: A solution to inconsiderate people.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we are only inviting people who are seriously involved with someone - as so and so with guest - otherwise it would blow our budget - they will all have to understand - and that is the bottom line

Re: A solution to inconsiderate people.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I can put someone's name on the envelope as the date, they're invited. But, there will be no 'and guest' for those who are totally single. You wind up with people that even the person who brings them didn't want there, it's just to have someone and I'd much rather expand my list to the people I had to cut than to dates that no one knows.
And I don't think it's fair for people to assume that by not inviting a date, it's a 'they're not going to give me enough $' thing. That's pretty presumptuous since no one is fully aware of anyone else's situation on this board.
