A thread just for PlusSize Brides

I thought it might be good to start our own thread. We're all in the same boat, and we can help each other find things we need, vent about issues, support each other's diets.

Anyone interested?

Welcome!

Have you found your dress? Where are you looking?

My dress came in last month, it's from the Alfred Angelo Plus line. Thank god its big. I lost 12 lbs before I tried it on. But I've been yo-yoing all summer now. All the summer parties and BBQs are killing me.

I'm still safe, since it was big. But I'd love to lost 20lbs before the wedding. I just always see such a difference in my face, and for the pictures, that's important to me.

Did you all have to pay extra for your wedding gown because they measured you and it was over their 'regular, normal SKINNY' number?!

I JUST made the cutoff because they ordered it to fit my chest (it's bigger than my waist) so the sizing was so big but it wasn't my normal size.

Did you have any problems like that

I had to pay $100 more for my dress but that was not to bad.

I got a Demetrios gown from Macy's Bridal in Manhassett. I think I paid $75 extra

I have not found my dress yet but I have been looking around a lot. In fact I am going again tonight.

Its really a pain because its hard to judge whether a dress would look good on you or not when the sample is way too small.

Macy's Bridal had quite a few samples for me to try on. Even if it's not the same exact dress that you want you can try the style to get an idea of how it will fit on you.

H- I'm not sure what size you're looking for but The Wedding Center in Commack had a lot of 'larger' sizes to try on. They're very helpful too. Good Luck!

ANother Lucious Lovely here --- but I can't really participate in the dress comments because I have mine already, and I got it at...spiegel.com!
2nd wedding, I am going off the beaten path.
BUT --- Georgette's on 107 in Hicksville had great underthingys to smoosh & squich and push all your sexiness together!!

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides

I didn't have to pay extra because I bought an Alfred Angelo plus size line gown. Althought its probably just incorporated into the price. But my dress was only $545, so I think it was still a good deal.

I only tried on dresses that were size 14/16 or bigger. I'm between a 24 and 26.

I found these places had a large selection in my range. And they even had some that were TOO big on me (doesn't that feel good!):

Beautiful Bride in Lynbrook
The Wedding Center in Commack
Bridal Suite in Bayshore

And the styles I tried on were sexy, young and not old and frumpy.

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides

I got a long line bra from Miriam's in East Meadow. They were great too. Because the long line bras only go up to 42, they are sewing in an extender to make it a 44 for me. THey also are sewing in pads (not because I need extra cleavage) but because it helps keep the shape of the bra and shape my cleavage nicer. I had originally gone to Sylvia's in Rockville Centre and I didn't like them at all. Nothing like an 80 year old woman feeling you up and only having one item to offer you.

By the way, the reason I got a long line bra, is because when I wear a corset (had this problem for my prom), the bottom flips up when I sit down, because my stomach pushes it. I didn't want to go through this at my wedding, and wearing garters doesn't help.

Speaking of garters, has anyone been successful with thigh-high pantyhose? I don't want to fight with regular pantyhose the day of my wedding and I've tried several thigh-high brands that are allegedly special for plus size brides. It's a crock, as soon as I get them on, they start to roll down my thighs. Then they'll stayup just above my knee, but its like wearing rubberbands on my thighs.

If I don't find a pair that are comfortable (and I'm almost given up hope), I'm planning to wear white knee highs. I know that sounds frumpy, but no one will see my thighs under my dress anyway.

I went to Sylvia's years ago and felt the same way! And I have the same problem with the stuff being rolled upwards by my 'sexy' fat belly!
I have not found thigh-highs that do not roll down on me. What about wearing pantyhose? Are you doing the garter toss?

BTW, you have FM aimerliny

That's too funny!

And I second (or third!) the opinion about Georgettes. My most favorite bra came from there.

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides

We're doing the garter toss, but I'm instructing FH to go under the dress, as opposed to hiking the dress up. Plus by then, I might be in different shoes, and then I'll have ditched the knee-highs altogether.

I'm against full pantyhose, because I'll have enough to fight with if I have to pee that day. Dress, crinoline, girdle.
