Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides

HI all

I thought this thread was gone forever....kudos to whoever bumped it.

How is everyone? Married life is wonderful! We're so busy we can barely breathe...but we love it! The house is coming along nicely!

Call me crazy, but the one thing I haven't done is gotten my dress cleaned yet. I feel like if I do that, I can't ever try it on for fun. I put it on the other day just for the fun of it!

I'm currently a BM for my best friend's wedding in July. But after that I'm off the wedding circuit for quite a while....we'll be jumping on the TTC circuit after that!

Happy Summer Everyone!

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides

Hey everyone!! I thought the thread was gone as most of us already got married! Of course that begs the question -- why am I checking in here at all????

7 months and I still feel like it's just the day after.

I finally got my dress cleaned. It's now in it's box under our bed. (sigh) I know what you mean about wanting to try it on sometimes!

Hope everyone is well and having a great summer!

WOW I guess I am lucky!! DH knows I would probably never do it so the week after the wedding as a suprise he took my dress to be cleaned and preserved. Its already in its special box and put away

Where does everyone go shopping for dresses?? I have a million weddings and Eparties coming up and I am in desperate need of new things to wear!!!

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides

Believe it or not, I've been pretty successful at Macy's Roosevelt Field. They have a very nice plus size department and lots of dressy things. Their dress department has quite a few choices too -- the dress department has a bit more dumpy stuff too, but you can weed through that to find some nice stuff.

I've also been somewhat successful in the past at Estelle's -- but they are hit or miss.

By the way....if anyone is in search of bathing suits...I did pretty well ordering from JCPenney.com -- they had a nice woman's selection, and again...the styles are not ALL farty!

Now shorts on the other hand have been a challenge this summer...is it just me or are they getting shorter and shorter...definetly not an attractive style for me. And because I'm only 5'1', the bermuda style doesn't work for me ... the end up looking like clam diggers. I picked up 2 pair at Lane Bryant...but I didn't love the overall selection.

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides

Oh my gosh! I was just all determined to read this entire thread because I was SOOO excited to find it, and I got up to page 8 when I realized it was just going on and on forever! 22 pages! That's amazing!

I am so excited to have found this thread. I am also a plus sized bride. I am a size 26, although I'm stretching at that because I'm also pregnant! Prior to getting pregnant I lost 58 lbs (figures!) and now I'm in my 23rd week (5 months, 3 weeks) and am starting to get limited to just pregnancy clothes.

FH and I are getting married in 3 weeks on July 2nd. I got my dress from David's Bridals. The 26 JUST fit me perfectly, and it's the largest size they carry. But I looked around at a lot of other places and couldn't find another dress that I liked. Mine is just so simple and it's not heavily beaded, so it's very lightweight which is a plus being that I'll be 26 weeks pregnant in july on our wedding day! I don't want to be carrying around a 100lb dress!! I had to order extra fabric so that I could put in panels on the side being that I wasn't showing when I ordered it but I am definately showing now, and I'm getting my alterations done at Christine's Alterations in Levittown on Hempstead Tpke. I have my 2nd fitting this weekend, I can't wait!

My dress

As far as stockings and legs rubbing together, since it is going to he hot most likely on my day, I am not wearing stockings! I am wearing ballerina type shoes so I'm not really concerned with that stockings for that aspect. What I am wearing underneath is a lightweight body smoother. It's not a big suck-you-in type thing like a girdle. I actually wore the same one when I was in my sister's wedding in 2001, it's like a stretchy pair of bike shorts that come halfway down your thigh. I have it in beige color and it smoothes me up enough without hurting my prego belly. I purchased it at the Lane Bryant store. It also gives you coverage inbetween your legs so your legs don't rub together. I wear it whenever i wear skirts now.

I got my bra from Blum's in Patchogue. I normally wear a 46DD but they gave me a 50DD because of my prego belly! It's a corset type one that comes to my belly button, made by Goddess.

I also got a great garter belt from my sisters at my shower last weekend. It's made by Lillian Rose and is plus sized. I already tried it on and it doesn't seem to move around, and I can wear it at mid-thigh. I can't seem to find a picture of it on thier website so I'm sure my sisters found it in a store, but it seems to be doing the trick for me.

I'm sorry if I just bored you all with a super long post! I'm just excited to have found this board!

I have had the same problem with shorts. I am only 5 feet and the shorts seem really short on me. And when I go to bermuda shorts they come down to the middle of my calf. I lucked out and found jersey shorts at Lane Bryant last year and bought a couple of pairs. I'm looking again this year and having no luck. I am going to FL in Aug and def need some more shorts for the trip. I hate clothes shopping.

Welcome Melissa! And congrats on your upcoming wedding and addition to your family!

Are you guys going on a honeymoon? Or waiting until after the Baby is born?

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides

We are going on a small honeymoon in Baltimore. People think it sounds so silly when I say it to them, but we have our reasons for doing that instead of a big Hawaii or Aruba type thing. We can drive there in just a few hours, since I don't want to fly in my preggo condition and my FH doesn't drive, so all the driving is up to me so a close location is key, and it won't be super expensive, but it'll still be in a town with water. We are staying at the Marriot Waterfront, right on the harbor, a beautiful hotel, and it's 4th of july weekend and they are having lots of fireworks and festivities in the harbor right near our hotel that we'll be able to enjoy. Maybe one day years from now we'll be able to take an anniversary honeymoon someplace tropical, but for now this will do!

My husband and I went to Baltimore for a weekend a few years back. It was a wonderful trip -- really nice city. There is lots to do on the waterfront and we enjoyed all the street performers, etc. We found some coupons online for restaurants that saved us some money...try doing a search on google. We also liked the Aquarium very much!

I went last summer with my parents to see a Yankee game and loved the city. Just walking around was really nice, the food was excellent, and there is a lot to see and do. It'll be a 4 day-3 night honeymoon, just something small but I think we'll really enjoy ourselves. People think of Baltimore as an industrial city but there is a lot of nice things to do.
