A thread just for PlusSize Brides

Original post by aimerliny

I thought it might be good to start our own thread. We're all in the same boat, and we can help each other find things we need, vent about issues, support each other's diets.

Anyone interested?

Wow, you looked absolutely beautiful on your wedding day! I had a friend who did a December wedding because she just HAD to have the holiday decorations in her pictures. It looks like it was all so beautiful.

I'm off for my manicure and pedicure! I'm sooooo antsy!!!

Hello Ladies i just saw this thread and i was reading and it looled like we have the same problem. So here is the problem... ? to the already married ladies... what did you eventually wear underneath the dress panyhose, knee highs, or thigh highs or bare legs. Cause i was thinking of wearing no hosiery. but with thick thighs they are going to rub together (sorry to personal but i need advise) by the end of the night i will be in serious pain.
help please.

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides

I am having a problem too...I just tried my first dress on last week and UGH! I was about to cry after..all the dresses I liked looked great and then when I tried them on I felt like a blimp. I know I am no where near perfect but I looked awful in the dress and my arms just stuck out and looked pitiful. So I am researching dresses with sleeves but I don't really like them. Now to make matters worse she tells me I have to order it by August if I want it to come in right before my wedding in April.
Is this true??? Do I have to order so early? I am thinking of just going to a place like RK bridal and buying off the rack late fall or early Winter, It gives me time to lose weight and I should be getting surgery (hopefully) a breast reduction, so how can I possibly find a dress before I have the surgery done???
HELP??
Sorry I am annoyed and venting but I need help.

yes some manufacturers you have to order early. I ordered my dress in Feb and it wont be in until Oct. I have lost about 30lbs since i ordered so now im worried about alteration costs! Davids has a huge selection and they are off the rack!!!!!

I felt like a blimp in almost every dress I put on...except the one I wore. You will find the perfect one. However...dont rush to find one...take your time. Im mean don't wait to the last minute but I was rushed into ordering my dress because they told me it would take 8 months to come in and it was in the store in 3 months. Sometimes I think they push you into ordering to get the commission. Also many dresses that are strapless or sleeveless can be made with sleeves is thats what you want.

Oh and I forgot to tell you what I wore under my dress... I have to admit there was nothing pretty about it. I wore a corset from Mary's Corsetier (its in woodberry...and I highly recommend it!!!!) and I didn't wear stockings but I needed something to hold in the hips and prevent the legs rubbing together so I wore something called lipo in a box. They were like bike shorts....but for tummy and hip control. Then I wore knee highs because my shoes were closed toe. I didn't do the bouquet and garter toss so I figured my legs would never be exposed for the day. I was comfortable and everything stayed in place. I hope this helps

I wore big blue crinoline! And nothing else ;)

Okay, well maybe not. I did wear cute panties, and a longline bra. But no hose. Definitely no hose. I never wear anything like that, so it felt normal to me.

I went and got my dress and David's Bridal. The first dress I got in about 2 weeks. The 2nd dress came in after 4 weeks.

I would suggest not rushing into anything. Look and search and find something that 'feels right'. You will find it!!!

good luck!

i wore a slip that had legs like a coulott ( sp?)
it made walking around much easier - i got it from roamans.com best $20 i ever spent kept my legs from rubbing and because it was silky it didnt make that rubbing sound pantyhose do

Thanks girls you are the best...I definilty felt pressure to buy a dress...If it is April do you think I can hold off and just get off the rack by Nov/Dec??
I may postpone surgery until after the wedding then or maybe get the dress and have it taken in so much on the top. Not sure yet this is my main problem with getting married, I will postpone the dress to the last weeks if I had to do it my way

I did not wear pantyhose either. I just wore a long line bra and girdle type underwear that smoothed out my tummy, hips and butt.

On my thighs, I used the deodarant trick one of the girls on this thread recommended. Works like a charm. I've used it since when I'm wearing dresses and skirts. You just take a solid antipersperent/deodorant and rub it on the inside of your thighs. Works better than baby powder and is less messy.

I also wore knee highs because even though I had open toed shoes, I was afraid of getting a blister or something.

All were comfortable and nobody knew.

In terms of corsets, I'll share something with my experience. I had gotten a corset for my prom. It was full length so the bottom sat at the tops of my hips. It was also fully boned. The thing was fine when I was standing, but when I would sit, the bottom would flip up because of how my tummy settled and the bones would curl upward. Definetly not comfortable and kind of noticable. Since then I've stuck with long line bras which stop at the waist and aren't affected when you sit. Just my experience, but certainly something to think about when you shop for undergarments.

I didn't wear pantyhose under my dress, just these bike short types of smothing panties that I've actually had for YEARS from Lane Bryant store. I got them for my sister's wedding in 2001 and have bought a few pairs since becuase they are great to wear under skirts in the summer. They don't like suck you in uncomfortably, but just smooth away any little lumps you might have, and since they are like bike shorts they eliminate the legs rubbing together thing completely and are VERY comfortable.

Btw, my day was beautiful. We are off for the honeymoon in a few hours and I was hoping to have some digital shots to post before we left, but noone has e-mailed me any yet! I'll have them when we get back!

Okay, here are my preliminary wedding pics. These are just what my friend sent me from her digital cam. We'll get the rest of our 20 or so rolls of film developed soon, as we didn't have a professional photographer, just a friend of the family filming it, so we are developing the film ourselves.

The are kind of in backwards order because that's how I saved them in my account. More to follow hopefully soon!!

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides

I am so glad I came across this thread. I am a plus size and have put off shopping for dresses because I just don't want to face it- I'm so afraid that I will not find anything I like. I feel so much better after reading all of your posts. Here's a little about me:
I'm Lisa, FH is Jack. We live together in Seaford. Jack has a son from a previous marriage so I'm learning how to be a stepmom.

Looking forward to chatting with you all more....
