I thought it might be good to start our own thread. We're all in the same boat, and we can help each other find things we need, vent about issues, support each other's diets.
Anyone interested?

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides
Welcome to the forum Lisa.
I was worried also about dress shopping and all the many things related to weddings because of being a plus sized bride.
On dresses, most places now carry a full line of plus dresses, and don't limit yourself to what you try on if you are self concious about a body part. Try on everything you can, and when you find your perfect dress, you'll know it!
Also, if you are looking for a great undergarment place, I'd highly recommend Georgettes on 106/107 in Hicksville. She is so good at making you look great in your gown with all the necessary undergarments. I went to her for some little things and wished I had gotten all of my undergarments from her!
Good luck on your wedding plans and I'm sure you are going to be a beautiful bride!!

Okay, here are my preliminary wedding pics. These are just what my friend sent me from her digital cam. We'll get the rest of our 20 or so rolls of film developed soon, as we didn't have a professional photographer, just a friend of the family filming it, so we are developing the film ourselves.
The are kind of in backwards order because that's how I saved them in my account. More to follow hopefully soon!!

I did not wear pantyhose either. I just wore a long line bra and girdle type underwear that smoothed out my tummy, hips and butt.
On my thighs, I used the deodarant trick one of the girls on this thread recommended. Works like a charm. I've used it since when I'm wearing dresses and skirts. You just take a solid antipersperent/deodorant and rub it on the inside of your thighs. Works better than baby powder and is less messy.
I also wore knee highs because even though I had open toed shoes, I was afraid of getting a blister or something.
All were comfortable and nobody knew.
In terms of corsets, I'll share something with my experience. I had gotten a corset for my prom. It was full length so the bottom sat at the tops of my hips. It was also fully boned. The thing was fine when I was standing, but when I would sit, the bottom would flip up because of how my tummy settled and the bones would curl upward. Definetly not comfortable and kind of noticable. Since then I've stuck with long line bras which stop at the waist and aren't affected when you sit. Just my experience, but certainly something to think about when you shop for undergarments.
YES EXACTLY i wear alot of corsets - i am a big renfaire gal and let me tell you you just cant sit in those things cause the boning bends and then it sticks up constantly looks all odd and gets really uncomfortable cause after you try to bend them back ( especially the metal stays) they tend to poke through the material and man oh man does it dig into your hips - one of my friends wears shoulder pads under her corset cause she gets friction sores from them rubbing ( sorry to get graphic but unless you can tolerate it a corset that is long is definately a rough thing when you got a bit of tummy - know what i mean?)

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides
Melissa Z great dress!! It looks great. I love it. See the lady at Lillette's told me I should not wear spaghetti straps cause my shoulders are rounded and they would be falling on me. Did you find that problem? I really love the dress who makes it??
Welcome to the board Lisa. I have been having the same fear as you. I put off dress shopping for so long. I thought Lillette's was great. She did try to help me as best she could but I like a certain style of dress and she was like try this one...I hated it and would NEVER wear it. So I am trying to lose weight now by doing a detox master cleanse. The one where Robin Quivers from Howard Stern lost all her weight. Hopefully it will help me lose 20-30 so I can go back in and order a smaller dress feel better about my arms. The dress really didn't look so bad but my arms were really bad and I have always been embarrassed about them. Good Luck girls!!!!!!! Cara

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides
Thank you to everyone who has posted about my wedding pictures. It was such a fun awesome day. Hopefully I'll get around to writing up reviews of it soon, but really most of the work was done by friends of the family, but I'll write them up anyway!
Cara -- As far as wearing spagetti straps, I didn't find any problem with it at all. My dress was very comfortable and I loved wearing it. I didn't feel weighted down and I didn't have to tug at anything the whole night. The dress was purchased at David's Bridals, so it is one of thiers.
If you are looking to lose weight, I always recommend weight watchers to everyone. Seriously, there are a lot of 'fad' diets out there that really don't help you to lose weight in a healthy, long term sort of way. Although I may not look thin at all in my pictures, I did lose 58 lbs doing weight watchers for around 6 months before I got pregnant. I lost 10 lbs my first week and I can't wait until I've had the baby and I can go back to it because I feel it really does help and definately works.
Good luck in whatever you do and post us pics of your first dress fittings!!! -Melissa

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides
Thanks everyone. I'm looking forward to chatting with you all. For some reason, some of the pics on the posts just show up as little boxes but others don't. Does anyone know why this would happen?

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides
If it shows up as little boxes it usually means that the pictures didn't load for whatever reason. It could mean that the server that is hosting the pictures is down, that too many people are trying to access those specific pics at once and so the server that hosts them isn't allowing that much, or that they were taking so long to load that your computer just opted to not keep waiting and load the rest of the page without them. I checked the links on mine and they seem okay. Hopefully you'll be able to see them soon!

Thanks. It is so weird because it only happens to some pics. I still can't view yours and I want to see the dress that everyone is raving about!

Hi - my name is Lauren and I am getting married in less than 4 weeks! I need undergarment help! I was thinking of wearing a corset to suck me in and lift my small chest - I know a lot of you suggested Georgette's - any idea about how much a corset would be? thanks! Lauren

I got a longline bra, it went down to just above my belly button, and I paid around $45 for it, but that was at Blum's in Patchogue. I later went to Georgettes for some other items and she was selling them for a little bit cheaper I think, and I think she's actually better at fitting you for the perfect bra as well.

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides
I hope you ladies don't mind that I'm posting this here rather then starting a new thread. I just feel like I don't want this out there for the entire LIW community to see, because it's something that's bothering me a lot.
As many of you know, I was married to my wonderful husband last weekend, on Saturday, July 2nd. We had a wonderful wedding, and I am so happy to be married to him. However, I felt like my side of the family, particularily my sister and my parents, tried thier best to ruin our wedding. I tried really hard that day not to let it get to me, I danced and enjoyed myself, but now after the fact it's really on my mind and I can't forget about it.
Bill and I pushed our wedding up because it turned out that we were expecting. We are due on October 9th, so rather then waiting another year or so after engagement to get married, we planned the whole wedding in about 5 months. When my sister got married back in 2001 she chose my then 12 year old sister to be her Maid Of Honor, which hurt me a lot because I was 22 and we were closest in age. When I was chosing my MOH for my wedding, I didn't want to pick between the two of them so I asked them both to be my MOHs.
My sister Irene, I didn't expect much from, because she's 16 and doesn't drive. But I'm really hurt by everything that my other sister did. I feel like she was the Bridezilla of my wedding, not me. I was trying to be flexible because I knew it was short notice for everyone, so I was very lax about everything, but she insisted on going to a specific place for the bridesmaid dresses, which was all the way out in Patchogue and I'm in Levittown and work in Brooklyn. It was so inconvinient for my bridesmaids who didn't live in suffolk county, and the place was so expensive and didn't even get the dresses in until 10 days before the wedding. They were so horrible.
Then at my shower my sister had it at her house, but many people have told me that they'd call to see if they could help her and she never even returned my phone calls. I know that my little sister did everything, the cooking, setting up, favors, and when I opened my presents my older sister didn't even watch, she just sat in her kitchen while everyone else was in watching me open the presents.
When it came down to my rehersal and dinner, she didn't even come to that. When I told her when it was she flipped out that it was the night of her Principal at her shcool's retirement dinner and she wasn't going to miss that, so she wasn't coming. Meanwhile I needed her to sign the marriage license and everything, and I needed to make a seperate trip out to suffolk county to have that done becuase she refused to come to the rehersal dinner.
Since I'm pregnant I told them that I didn't want a crazy bachelorette party, besides, I've been there done that with friends and I just didn't want it. I wanted us to all go out to lunch and get our nails done and when I spoke with my sisters about it they said they weren't planning on doing anything for a bachelorette party for me. My husband's niece ended up taking me out to get my nails done and for lunch with two of her friends that are aquaintances to me, which was very nice of her. She said that she called my sisters to see if they would at least come, and they said they already had plans for that day, the day before my wedding, and they weren't planning on going.
Then on my wedding my sister ended up leaving hours early because her husband got so drunk he couldn't even walk. He had to be carried into the car and she left with him. I can understand that she didn't want to leave him there, but it hurt that she left so early and wasn't even there for a lot of the wedding. My parents house is like 5 mins from were we had the reception, and I feel she should have just dropped him off there and came back, but instead she just went home.
Aside from all of that, my parents also did some things that bothered me. The night before the wedding they told me that I couldn't go there in the morning to thier house to take pictures before the ceremony because it was an 'inconvinience' to them. Then the day of my wedding, at the coctail hour, my mom decided to come and tell me that she and my dad weren't paying for the entire reception as planned, and that I needed to come up with $1,100 in cash to pay for the rest of it that day.
I spoke wiht my little sister about all of this bothering me and she doesn't seem to think any of it is a big deal. I don't know if I am overreacting but I really don't feel like I am. I just don't know if I shold move on and forget it or if I should really be upset about all of it...
