I thought it might be good to start our own thread. We're all in the same boat, and we can help each other find things we need, vent about issues, support each other's diets.
Anyone interested?

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides
Hey ladies...i need some help! I am going to start looking for my gown within the next 2-3 weeks. I want to wear a strapless gown. Right now I am a size 14. I have about 15 months until my wedding. I just started going to the gym and am in the process of getting a personal trainer. I would like to lose atleast 40 pounds before the big day. BUT my questions are these....1) If i pick a dress now and then they have to take it in alot...will it ruin the dress?? 2) What about undergarments,...do i have to go get them before I start looking for dresses...even though the ones i get now most likely wont be the ones i wear for the wedding. Im sooo confused!! Honestly I dont even wanna start looking. :( Im getting stressed!! Girls HELP!!!!

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides
I went to Lidia's Bridal in Copiague for BM dresses. THey are sooo nice. I am thinking of going there for my wedding dress. The rooms there offer a lot of privacy. ask to go in the back(it is a huge place, very deceiving) when u try on. HTH

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides
I do not like my arms. Does anyone know where I can get a wrap that slips on... not a bolero jacket. I have seen them before at a wedding and I should have asked them where they got them. The bride and the BM had them. Thanks!

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides
nivea makes a firming cream that seems to do well on stretch marks - my aunt swears bathing in milk helps stretch marks -( i've never tried this but she drove me nuts wanting me to do it before the wedding)
aside from that maybe a sheer scarf?
sorry not much help

ok i for one dont think you should overly worry about loosing weight just because you are getting married. - the added stress of planning a wedding is going to make it more difficult to loose weight. if you are choosing a gown now pick one that doesnt hae as much beading etc on it then it will be easier to do alterations - but if you have a really good seamstress ( dont use the one the salon provides they over charge for alterations) any style and decoration should be fine going down in size. recommendation for wedding gown alterations - filomenia's dressmaking route 112 in coram - just north of route 25 on the right hand side. you should have the undergarments you plan on wearing with the gown when you try the gown on - different undergarments can change the entire look of the gown.

I agree!! But if you really feel you are going to lose this weight and have a set plan to do so, then wait a bit before getting your dress. I would wait as long as possible. I didn't do that, and had some issues. (I was a 2 dress bride)
My seamstress, was Phyllis from gownfind.com (she's in east northport) and she really made me feel at ease and she was affordable.
good luck!

I'm not much help with this either. I'm really fair skinned, so they don't stick out as much. And I don't really think I cared either

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides
Hi girls
I have stretch marks on my upper arms/shoulder area and they were totally not noticable in my pictures from the wedding. I think we are all personally more selfconsicious about these things and most people don't even notice them.
If you are sensitve, and you are having your makeup professional done, you can always ask your makeup artist to touch them up a bit.
In terms of the undergarments question, I did not have my final undergarments until my first fitting. When I went to try dresses on, I just wore a white strapless bra and 'suck-em-in' underwear. It was good enough to get the basic look of the dress and for me to decide what I liked.
Hi ladies!! I'm going barefoot for my wedding, with barefoot sandals, so no pantyhose for me!! I attached a pic of a sample of the sandals, but mine are ivory and gold, and a little different style.

Re: A thread just for PlusSize Brides
About the stretch marks............If you have a good makeup artist she can cover them. My make-up girl does airbrushing (which will even cover tattoos!) So if it bothers you that much you should look into airbrushing.
