You could so rock that dress.... it isn't an 'obnoxious' poofy pickup dress if that makes sense. I do understand the 'age appropriate' thing but I think that dress is definitely classy and it also depends on who is wearing it! As everyone has said, you do NOT look 41 and you would look great in it!
ETA: I'm 23, and yea I have some pickups too, but I have seen plenty of 'older' brides wear the princess dress and it is fine!

Re: age..........
In my opinion, you have the body and the face to wear anything you want. 40 is the new 20 I think. Look at how many top celebrities are in their 40's. I would say that dress would be inappropriate at say 50 but because of all the media attention around 40 year old actresses (like the desperate housewives ladies), I think of 40 as being young and I think most other people do too. That being said (and I know people are going to rip me a new one for this so please don't be offended- I'm trying to be honest because she asked for it )... I don't love pick ups. If you love them, great... then you'll rock them and you will look great. BUT, I don't personally like pick up dresses. For me, they are just a little too trendy and I would want something more timeless... BUT, if that is your personality, then they would be great for you.... regardless of the fact that you are 41. Also I am 24 since you asked for ages with responses...
Oh and I forgot to add that I am so spiteful I would probably go back to that store and buy the pick up dress just to make that sales lady feel like an uncomfortable @$$.

Re: age..........
41 is certainly not old - if you're 50s/60s, you may want to rethink a certain look but even then, if you got the bod, wear what you want. You look great and if the dress feels/looks good on you, then wear whatever you like. I'm 38 and didn't think for a minute about 'age appropriate' .

I'm one of the 'younger' girls here, I'm 24 and will be the day of my wedding as well....and I think that dress, in white, is completely appropriate! You look great for your age, and you will look fabulous. Definitely try to find another store that carries the same dress, because that saleswoman doesn't deserve the business for saying something rude like that.

You look like you're late 20's!! :)
That dress is INCREDIBLY sophisticated. I am 25 and I think it is a very beautiful, elegant, timeless, mature dress that you should have NO worries ordering.
Congrats!

Oh- and I totally agree w/ Ali on this. Don't give that person your business! Find someone that will treat you like the bride you are!

Re: age..........
I am a 42 year old bride and I don't look or feel like 42 at all.
My dress is very similar to the style you are looking at and it was picked specifically for me by the bridal consultant, who happens to be my FMIL and I don't think she would steer me wrong. It's your day wear what you feel beautiful in. BTW - you look 'Fabulous and Forty'!

Umm...you could wear a white potato sack and still look amazing! You look fantastic! I would never guess that you are 41! I'm nearing 30 and I WISH I looked as good as you! I say wear whatever you want and feel comfortable in. Nobody elses opinion really matters! Screw the sales lady who told you that, she was probably just jealous that SHE couldn't pull it off

WEAR WHATEVER YOU WANT!!!!!!! in my opinion there is no reason you have to wear an 'age appropriate' style... that's ridiculous to me!

Re: age..........
I am 33, and I think that you should do whatever feels right for you, and forget about what's 'appropriate'. What's appropriate is what's right for you and no one else. I think your dress is perfect. It looks alot like mine, the style i mean. I picked my dress because I loved it, and because i felt that it would better suit me at my age. I didn't want all the fanciness, and wanted more elegance. this is also my first marriage, no kids. I had alot of the same concerns you have, but i had to stop being concerned, and do what i felt was right for me. Hey listen, we all deserve that wedding that we always wanted, from when we were little. This is your first (and hopefully only) marriage. Do it up sista!!!!
ps: suzanner is right, your FH is a total babe :o) you go girl!!!!!
here is a pic of my dress:

I'm 26, and will be when I'm married. I just want to say you look amazing! You have a great smile and your spirit just shines through! You and your FH look great together!! (And yeah he's a total hottie!!!). Onto your dress, it is just spectacular. I've NEVER seen a pleated top like that, it is so elegant, unique, perfectly appropriate. It's just beautiful. I think if you want pickups, you rock them girl!!!!!!!!!!! F that saleswoman like Nanner said, take your business elsewhere...BUT GET THAT DRESS!!! I think if you want to do ivory it would look awesome. I also think a blush color, or really pale silver or gold would look SICK!. Think about it!!! What do YOU picture yourself in on your day? Good luck!!!!!

I am 36.
First, F that saleslady in the A. Pardon my vulgarity, but I don't know what her problem was- how do you say that to someone? You are a bride- why not wear what you want??? All of those rules seem so anachronistic these days. None of it applies anymore. YOu wear what you want!!
Second, you look AMAZING- I bet the 20 year old you stole that body from is super pissed. Babe- you want those pick-ups?? You get them and wear the hell out of them. That is just the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.
The joy of a wedding day is not the exclusive domain of the 'young'. It is for everyone who has had the good fortune to find love, and who wants to share that with the people they know. And it is for you to celebrate in any way you see fit.
You will look like an absolute princess, and I truly hope you take your business elsewhere to someone who understands this. This shouldn't even take up a moment of your thoughts.
Best of luck, and show it off. Either you have worked very hard for that body, or God loves you. Either way, I am bitter and resentful. If I had your shape, at 36, I'd be wearing a g-string and pasties with tassles, walking down the aisle screaming 'Check me out.'
Oh, and ps- your FH is a babe.
F YES NANNER!!!!!

I'm 28.
OMG, you do NOT look like you are 41 at all! I remember talking to you on FM about stuff, and i checked out your pictures then, i had no idea how old you really were. I actually assumed you were younger than me.
I say, do whatever makes you happy! I think that dress would look ridiculous on someone that looked older (the whole, older woman trying to be a teen thing), but that is not the case with you at all! If you have it, flaunt it!
